I keep reading that Clausen is going to go in the top 10 but I've yet to hear any scout/coach/exec tell me they have him rated that high

I think he's a "former scout" for a reason...
…with Seattle taking CJ Spiller at 6th overall.
But seriously, with the quantity of teams that need QBs, I don’t see how Clausen, a proven pro-style QB, drops that far (He has Clausen not even picked in the 1st round). Hell, he has the Vikings taking Best with Clausen still on the board. I may not be a scout, but I think that the Vikings have a good enough RB already on their team that they don’t need to use a first round pick on another one, and are in need of a QB for the future.
I always feel kinda silly disagreeing with a professional scout..
….but you know, I can watch tape and make my own judgments too. And my judgment after watching Jimmy Clausen for a long time is that anyone who doesn’t think he’s a top 16 pick has got their head planted firmly up their posterior.
I read on Jeremiah’s Twitter a while back him echoing the McShay B.S. about how Clausen is just like JP Losman. Thank god Kiper is on ESPN as a voice of reason. But I digress.
I don’t get the Clausen nitpicking. Sure, he has his flaws and areas where he can improve, but who doesn’t? He has extensive experience under center in a system that requires him to actually, you know….read defenses. He has good footwork and passing mechanics. He’s accurate and makes solid decisions.
Honestly, what’s not to like?
"'Tis a bird I love, with its brooding note, And the trembling throb in its mottled throat; There's a human look in its swelling breast, And the gentle curve of its lowly crest; And I often stop with the fear I feel-- He runs so close to the rapid wheel." Nathaniel Parker Willis, "The Belfrey Pigeon"
I think part of the criticism with Clausen is that he’s already as good as he’s ever going to be. It’s kind of a unique flaw, but the idea is that Weis is that good of a quarterback coach. With Clausen, and maybe even Brady Quinn, they’re already at their peak. A team will just have to figure out that if that’s the case, is he good enough for their system?

Clausen projected to go top 10
Published Mar 15, John Clayton says there are some expectations that someone wanting Clausen would have to trade up to get him.
Drafting seventh, Holmgren would have to trade up to get Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen. Bradford probably will go No. 1, so the Browns would have to target the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ pick at No. 3 to jump ahead of the Redskins for Clausen.
I don’t know if Clayton talked to anyone who specifically said anything, but he does talk to NFL team people. Then again, he may just be talking out his ass. Seems to happen to a lot of guys this time of year.
