Tech pro day thoughts; Browns intersted in Thomas?; more notes

There has been a bit of activity going on today. Instead of separate posts, here are some quick thoughts. It's like an NFL Draft mix tape, but less pretentious and with zero Tom Waits (we get it, you like to project faux-intelligence through your iTunes playlist. Sorry, moving on).

Burnett impresses: Georgia Tech safety Morgan Burnett reportedly had a stellar pro day today. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds, registered a 40-inch vertical leap and an 11-foot broad jump. Burnett has always been an MTD favorite. His draft range seems to be anywhere from the mid-first round to the early second round.

'Hawks, Jags check out Morgan: Also at the Tech pro day, the Seahawks worked out defensive end Derrick Morgan in line drills. Jacksonville also had a large contingent in Atlanta to see Morgan. The junior end didn't help himself by getting winded while performing drills. There have been questions about Morgan's stamina – which leads to work ethic questions – and this won't help.

Thomas working out for Browns: Chris Steuber of Scout.com reported that the Browns are going to hold a private workout with Texas safety Earl Thomas. This is really no shocker. However, I mentioned to a friend last week that Thomas could be a possibility for Cleveland with the seventh pick. Really, it makes sense. He would probably be a physical cornerback, which the team doesn't have. Or he'd be a playmaking safety, which the team also doesn't have.

Star-divide

Decker tops in Wonderlic: Word is out that at the combine Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker scored the best Wonderlic score with a 43. Get your white skill position player cliches ready! He's tough. He works hard. He never quits. He's a good blocker.

Weatherspoon interview: Will Spencer of Draft Breakdown has this great interview with Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon.

Gronk to workout: Arizona's Rob Gronkowski will hold a workout on March 27. This is going to be crucial for Gronkowski after missing all of the 2009 season due to back surgery. Teams will be watching his agility and how effortlessly he can move around. If it looks like he's straining because of the back problem, some teams may completely knock him off their board.

Thomas at 7 in my opinion would be about 10 picks too high.

Wow Haden is really plummeting now huh?

Is Haden still projected in the 1st round?

Morgan to the Giants in the 2nd!

Was fortunate enough....

to attend pro day at Tech today. Not only did Burnett look fabulous he had scouts cracking up & engaged after every drill. He’s a great guy & that shows through. BayBay spent a lot of time with Tech alum Ken Whisenhunt, FWIW. No one helped themselves more than Cord Howard. 6’4", 314, ran a 5.12, 25 reps, 30 inch vert, & a huge broad jump (would have been the best for an OL at the Combine). Cord looked ripped & ready & may have jumped into the draft picture. He said most teams regard him as a right guard or tackle. Dwyer looked much leaner than at the Combine & ran well & did well in drills.

I don’t think Decker will do much in the NFL. He doesn’t have the speed to get separation and knee injuries are never good.

At most

A move the sticks type receiver. There are several guys that I just don’t see sticking on a roster, Decker is one of them.

I see a shorter Joe Jurevicious

(more white cliche’s).

Or maybe more recent, and equally white, Kevin Walter.

Decker makes plays, he’ll do well in the NFL if he’s healthy

Oh god no

Cleveland cannot be allowed to take Thomas. They took my favorite player in the draft last year when they took Mack. I’ll be dammned if they do it again.

BTSC Obituaries

OldManSteeler, ominously died two days before Superbowl 123 where the Ravens are set to attempt their 7th superbowl win, facing the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He was 86. His last words are believed to be "MALOR CAN SUCK IT!!!". Like friends and family, we can only guess what this could mean.

You know

Cleveland will always try to screw us. Instead of drafting of their needs they draft ours and stills suck. I’m hoping Burnett falls to us in the second, he’d be a great pickup.

Just sayin, but they needed a center last year.

just a gut feeling

Cleveland will not let Clausen get past them. No basis in anything but my gut

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
