Browns laying smokescreen about Tebow?

Tony Rizzo, host of the The Big Show on WKNR (AM-850) in Cleveland said on his show today that the Browns don't have interest in Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.

Rizzo sighted team sources when he said that the team is simply laying a smokescreen. If so, this is a thick smokescreen being laid by president Mike Holmgren, especially considering Tebow is holding a private workout with the Browns. From Holmgren at Tebow's pro day:

"Clearly, he's a special young man," Holmgren told the Associated Press. "You can tell he's trying to make adjustments to his motion. That seems to be what people are fired up about, and he's working very hard to do that, and it showed today. I thought he had a pretty good workout."

"Those of us that know the position a little bit and watch the position and have coached the position, you saw it," Holmgren said. "You saw he's worked hard on changing some of his technique, and I root for him. He's a wonderful young man. I pull for guys like that, and he's going to make some team very happy."

Now, why a source would admit to feigning interest, I have no idea. Further, it seems pointless to fake interest about a player who likely won't be picked early in the first round. But unlike some radio chatterboxes, Rizzo often knows what he's talking about and does have very good sources.

I was thinking the same thing.

Earlier Holmgren was saying that Tebow was a huge project. My feelings? Tebow will be gone at #7, and I know that’s a wildly bold prediction. Jake Delhomme will be the starter for a few years and then it will be Tebow’s Time in Cleveland.

No way Tebow is gone by #7.

IMO if he’s drafted in the 2nd a team is reaching.

Pick #39 is a reach for the browns but not the biggest reach in the world.

My question is who are they faking out with this smokescreen? Trying to get some other team to trade with them by using Tebow as Bait? The rumor makes no sense and leaking a smokescreen makes no sense.
It Must Be Draft Season.

Holmgren has been laying all sorts of smokescreens.

Mangini leaked smokescreens last year (Crabtree and Sanchez)

Wow, if they are laying a smoke screen by inviting him to work out for them.

Then the Browns organization are some F’d up people. Especially since Tebow probably wont even go in the first round.

So good job reporting the facts by that radio DJ...

but in my opinion all it does is make your team look like a bunch of pricks.

They do run the wildcat with Cribbs

I think Tebow would run it more effectively

No, not even close. Cribbs is great at the wildcat. Tebow isn’t fast enough to be a wildcat QB.

He is quick enough

But I agree he isnt fast enough to break any huge runs. But he is quick enough to run the wild cat.
