Mock Draft V 4.0(Comparisons/Descriptions/No Trades)! ( Also much better prepared than my past mocks :)

Lot's of things have been shaken up

*=NFL comparison

With the 1st pick in the 2010 NFL draft the ST. Louis Rams Select...Sam Bradford QB, Oklahoma- This pick has been Clausen, Suh, or Bradford for many mocks. My pick would be Clausen but the Sam Bradford hype is too much to pass on, they get their frachise QB with this pick instead of a dominate DT(QB is obviously more important) * Tony Romo

- Other possibilities

- Jimmy Clausen- Either or is better than what they have at QB

-Kong Suh- Once in a decade DT prospect, who could solidify any defense

With the 2nd pick in the 2010 NFL draft the Detroit Lions select... Russell Okung LT, Oklahoma State- This pick again could go either way(Okung or Suh). I have to pick Okung because the Lions just drafted their franchise QB(Matt Stafford) and they need to keep him healthy and off the ground. The Lions OL in awful and they will have to face Jared Allen, Julius Pepper, and Clay Matthews twice a year each. Suh is so hard to pass on but they need this LT more than a DT * Joe Thomas

Other Possibilities

- Kong Suh- Could anchor DL for many years

- Eric Berry- Longshot pick but he's a safety being even considered for #2 overall. That's impressive

With the 3rd pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select... Ndamukong Suh DT, Nebraska- Widely considered the best prospect in this draft but falls to #3 because other teams slect positional value. This pick is in before Goddell finishes saying "Okung" * Richard Seymour

Other possibilities

- None if Suh is on the board...if not:

- Eric Berry- An awesome safety but again could fall because he is indeed just that, a safety

- Gerald McCoy- Considered the 2nd best prospect this draft and a great DT as well as Suh

With the 4th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Washington Redskins select... Brian Bulaga OT, Iowa- With Okung off the board the Redkins realize there is no way they can pass up on an OT. Shanahan teams usually have strong OL's and Washington's OL is pathetic as of now. This is indeed a reach but they need this pick. *Micheal Roos

Other Possibilities

- Jimmy Clausen- The best QB in this draft

- If Russell Okung is available he'll be picked

With the 5th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Kansas City Chiefs select...Eric Berry S, Tennessee- KC is very happy that Berry is there for them. I think there is a great chance that Berry is the best player in this draft in 10 years * Ed Reed

Other possibilities

- Brian Bulaga- If he's available Scott Pioli likes building up with OL and DL

With the 6th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select...Gerald McCoy DT, Oklahoma- An easy pick for Seattle no doubter this is their guy * Tommie Harris

With the 7th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns select...Jimmy Clausen QB, Notre Dame- Brady Quinn is gone, Derrick Anderson is gone, who is going to start Seneca Wallace? Well if he does that's very sad, Clausen is the easy pick if he's available * Phillip Rivers

Other possibilities

- Joe Haden- Lockdown CB, but ran a bad 40 time

- Dez Bryant- Weak at WR position

With the 8th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select...Bruce Campbell OT, Maryland- Campbell ran a great 40 time, Al Davis loves great 40 times, match made in Heaven, this is the pick * Branden Albert

With the 9th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select...Dan Williams NT, Tennessee- I don't love this pick, but since the Bills are moving to a 3-4 they need a powerful NT. They would like to get the great OT here but since Bulaga is gone, Anthony Davis is a bum, and Trent Williams is mediocre( in my opinion), nobody else is worth being drafted here. Maybe the Bills trade down, but i'm not one to put trades in a mock because trades are impossible to predict * Domata Peko

Other Possibilities

-Trent Williams/Brian Bulaga/Anthony Davis- Bills really need a LT

- If one of the 2 QB's is available they will be picked

- Long shot of CJ Spiller or Dez Bryant- Bills need some explosive players

With the 10th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Jacksonville Jaguars select...Derrick Morgan DE, Georgia Tech- Morgan is the best pass rusher in this draft by far and Jags get a great pick here * Patrick Kerney

With the 11th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Denver Broncos select...Rolando McClain ILB, Alabama- Andre Davis was released and this looks more likely because of that * Zach Thomas

Other possibilities

-Dan Williams- Jamaal Williams is older and injury prone

- Dez Bryant- If Brandon Marshall is traded, Bryant will be picked

With the 12th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Miami Dolphins select... Jason Pierre- Paul OLB/DE, South Florida- Parcells has drafted many linebackers, add one more, JPP has so much upside, it's ridiculous, but he also could very well be a bust * Gaines Adams- Javon Kearse

With the 13th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the San Francisco 49ers select...Joe Haden CB, Florida- They are extremely happy to be able to get Haden * Leon Hall

With the 14th pick in the 2010 NFL draft the Seattle Seahawks select...CJ Spiller RB, Clemson- They are very weak at the RB position and Spiller is fast and agile * Reggie Bush

With the 15th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the New York Giants select...Brian Price DT, UCLA- They really need help for there interior D * Mike Patterson

With the 16th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Tennessee Titans select...Brandon Graham DE, Michigan- Vanden Bosch is gone and DE is now their #1 priority * Lamaar Woodley

With the 17th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the San Francisco 49ers select...Trent Williams OT, Oklahoma - They fill one priority by getting Haden, now they fill another one by getting the 3rd best OT in this draft * Donald Penn

With the 18th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Pittsburg Steelers select... Kyle Wilson CB/KR Boise State- CB is a huge need for the Steelers and they don't just get a good CB they get an awesome KR as well * Leodis McKelvin

With the 19th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Atlanta Falcons select...Sergio Kindle OLB/DE Texas- Falcons had only 28 sacks in '09, Kindle is a good pass rushing OLB who can really help out because Jamaal Anderson is a bust * Kamerion Wimbley- very athletic like Kindle

With the 20th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Houston Texans select...Earl Thomas FS, Texas- Texans get a great pick here when Thomas falls right to them, they really help out their secondary with this pick, especially since they lost Dunta Robinson * Jairus Byrd- Both are huge ballhawks and are same size

With the 21st pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select...Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State- Bryant falls to them because teams are drafting on positional value rather than player talent. Bengals get a huge steal here and they know it. * Chad JOHNSON

Wth the 22nd pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the New England Patriots select...Jermaine Gresham TE, Oklahoma- Ben Watson is gone, Chris Baker is gone, they need a TE big time * Antonio Gates, both a strictly pass TE's

With the 23rd pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers select...Anthony Davis OT, Rutgers- His stock has really fallen on the count he has acted like a bum, Green Bay really needed OL help as Aaron Rodgers was the most sacked QB in the NFL last year * Jason Peters

With the 24th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Philadelphia Eagles select...Everson Griffen DE, USC- Andy Reid loves to draft DE's * Average DE with plus speed

With the 25th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select...Jared Odrick DE/DT Penn State- I've had this pick being a WR all season long, but with the aquisition of Anquan Boldin they take a good defensive player to help out their DL after the loss of Dwan Edwards* Tyson Jackson?

With the 26th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Arizona Cardinals select...Sean Weatherspoon OLB, Missouri- Karlos Dansby is gone, and they need help on defense know * DJ Williams

With the 27th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select...Mike Iupati OG, Idaho- He's the mauling OG that Dallas loves to have, this pick just makes too much sense * Davin Joseph

With the 28th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the San Diego Chargers select...Ryan Matthews RB, Fresno State- Matthews had an awesome combine, LT is gone, and Sproles isn't an everydown back. Chargers will pick a RB but who will it be, i also think this pick could very well be Jahvid Best because he's a California boy, but after Matthews great combine this could very well be the pick * Lawrence Maroney

With the 29th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the New York Jets select...Jerry Hughes OLB/DE, TCU- The Jets have two main priorities this draft 1. Get a player who can apply constant pressure on the QB, and 2. Get a WR. Jets take the great pass rusher on Hughes over Golden Tate or Arrelious Benn because Rex Ryan loves him some defensive pressure * Terrell Suggs

With the 30th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Minnesota Vikings select...Devin McCourtey CB, Rutgers- Donovan Warren killed his stock by running a terrible 40 time, McCourtey is a good up and coming CB prospect and with CB being one of Minnesota's top priorities this offseason this is a good pick for them * Cortland Finnegan

With the 31st pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Indianapolis Colts select...Mourkice Pouncey OG/C, Florida- The defense still isn't great but the Colts get an awesome pick here * Eric Wood

With the 32nd Pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the New Orleans Saints select...Ricky Sapp OLB/DE, Clemson- Saints get a good pass rusher and a good pick here as well * Aaron Maybin

2nd Round

33. St. Louis Rams- Arrelious Benn WR, Illinois- They got their franchise QB in the first round, now they get their franchise WR(who i believe is the best in the draft)

34. Detroit Lions- Geno Atkins DT, Georgia- A reach, but Atkins hs done great to improve his stock. Lions help out their terrible defense here

35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Carlos Dunlap DE, Florida- They draft Suh and now Dunlap? Yea they had an awful D-Line which could now be come very dominate if Dunlap realizes he has great potential and stops being a lazy bum

36. Kansas City Chiefs- Terrence Cody NT, Alabama- They get the fat boy. He's got awesome potential because how often do you see a player this big?

37. Washington Redskins- Jahvid Best RB, California- Clinton Portis just isn't anything special anymore

38. Cleveland Browns- Kareem Jackson CB, Alabama- Secondary isn't too great, considered still having them draft Haden 1st round

39. Oakland Raiders- Taylor Mays SS, USC- Al Davis is doing flips thats Mays has somehow fallen to them in the second round, this pick is quickly

40. San Diego Chargers- Charles Brown- Stole a 20 pick rise fom 60-40 by trading Whitehurst to the Seahawks. Chargers lost Marcus McNeil and get a steal here by getting 1st round talent

41. Buffalo Bills- Rodger Saffold OT, Indiana- Saffold did great at the combine and the Bills desperatly need OL help. By taking Dan Williams in the 1st round they almost have to draft a OT in the second round

42. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Golden Tate WR, Notre Dame- They lost Antonio Bryant to FA, so they will be looking for the #1 Wr for Josh Freeman

43. Miami Dolphins- Nate Allen FS, South Florida- Dolphins pick another South Florida player, and FS is a need for them

44. New England Patriots- Koa Misi DE/OLB, Utah- Get some depth for that 3-4

45. Denver Broncos- Damien Williams WR, USC- If Marshall is traded htye may very well take Bryant, but make this pick because If they are to trade Marshall or he gets upset they can move Williams to the #1 and Royal to the #2. If Marshall is on the team Royal can slot

46. New York Giants- Alex Carrington DE/DT, Arkansas State- Solidify the frontline with Price and Carrington

47. New England Patriots- Brandon LaFell WR, LSU- Wes Welker has a brutal injury, Randy Moss doesn't think he'll be resigned, the Pats could definatly use a good WR who can return as well

48. Carolina Panthers- Mardy Gilyard WR, Cincinnati- Steve Smiths wants a counterpart, Gilyard is a great KR as well as a good possible slot WR

49. San Francisco 49ers- Jonathan Dwyer RB, Georgia Tech- Frank Gore seems injury prone, Dwyer is a bit of a reach here but still a good pick

50. Kansas City Chiefs- Dexter McCluster RB/WR/KR Ole Miss- Get a versatile player and WR is a need for KC, McCluster can also play RB which is also a KC need

51. Houston Texans- Brandon Ghee CB, Wake Forest- In a pass happy division a strong secondary is important, Houston has a weak secondary but improve it by getting Ghee and Thomas in the 1st

52. Pittsburg Steelers- Vladimir Ducasse OG UMASS- They consider Iupati in the 1st round but don't take him, they now take a OG

53. New England Patriots- Cam Thomas DT/NT UNC- They signed Wilfork but still take Thomas because after 3 years under Wilfork when Thomas is ready he could be very good. Thomas is not quite ready to play now though

54. Cincinnati Bengals- Lamarr Houston DT, Texas- Depth at DT is needed

55. Philedelphia Eagles- Daryl Washington OLB, TCU- They have a hole at weakside LB and Washington is a good pick here

56. Green Bay Packers- Joe McKnight RB, USC- Green Bay already has an explosive offense, it can be even more explosive after this pick

57. Baltimore Ravens- Chris Cook CB/FS, Virginia- CB must be upgraded to beat the Colts and Texans now

58. Arizona Cardinals- J.D Walton C/OG , Baylor- Need to keep Leinart off the ground

59. Dallas Cowboys- Brandon Spikes ILB, Florida- ILB's tend to slip on draft day so Spikes could very well fall to here, Dallas snaches him up quickly

60. Seattle Seahawks- Jared Veldheer OT, Hillsdale- Get a great RB, a very good DT, and a strong OT in their first 3 picks...well done

61. New York Jets- Reshad Jones S, Georgia- I thought about giving them a S in the first round because of trading Kerry Rhodes, but they get a decent S here

62. Minnesota Vikings- Chad Jones S, LSU- I am just completly guessing this pick, i think Jones could be an upgrade so i give them Jones

63. Indianapolis Colts- Donovan Warren CB, Michigan- Warren killed his stock by running a poor 40 time, see a trend? AFC South teams drafting secondary players because it's such a pass happy division

64. New Orleans Saints- Navarro Bowman OLB, Penn State- Good upgrade on defense with this pick, 1st round talent with the last pick in the 2nd round

Side Note: One named Birds 'n' Raiders challenged me to see whose NFL comps are better, Birds 'n' Raiders hasen't posted since then(about 25 days ago). I am still waiting Mr. Birds 'n' Raiders

You need to switch the 40/60 picks after the San Diego/Seattle trade

Like your Texans picks. Hate your 49er picks (I’m a Niner fan as well as a Texans fan).

You got some reaches in round 2, but overall…I’d say this is a pretty solid mock. It’s not like all of this couldn’t happen.

by TexansDC on Mar 19, 2010 4:28 PM EDT reply actions

I'll expand upon this

I think the Niners would take Earl Thomas over Joe Haden. Their corners are fine, but they could use more safety help than corner help.

I’m with you that Trent Williams is overrated. I would hope that the Niners pass on him (since RT can be filled later). The Niners could use a pass rushing OLB, so with your board….I’d go Graham at 13 and Thomas at 17. They’ll grab Ducasse in the 2nd round to fill the RT spot.

by TexansDC on Mar 19, 2010 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

But Haden is a once in a few years CB prospect, so what if he blew his 40 time, he’s a shutdown corner

The Niners don't really need a CB though.

A lot of the guys at NinersNation think Haden’s rated too high anyway.

Earl Thomas would be a lot better. Bly/Clements can survive…plus they could probably get a decent corner in round 3 due to the depth of the CB class.

by TexansDC on Mar 19, 2010 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know Haden is pretty damn good, but NinerNation knows the Niners better than me

That would also

push Haden or Wilson to the Texans. The 2nd round pick could then be FS Morgan Burnett…which fills the same positions you had, but in a different order.

by TexansDC on Mar 19, 2010 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

The Seahawks dont have the 40th overall anymore

But the Chargers might take Brown if he fell that far. Also you have a bunch of corners falling way way to far at the expense of overrated RBs and WRs.

by Foilhat on Mar 19, 2010 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

They'd either grab

Brown or Cody/Thomas. I could see them grabbing Brown and hoping Joseph or Troup last til the 3rd round to fill their NT.

by TexansDC on Mar 19, 2010 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Taking Brown with that board would be easy

Either that or we could take a CB, the kid from Florida comes to might.

by Foilhat on Mar 19, 2010 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

why doesn’t seattle have the 40th anymore?

eg the Charlie Whitehurst trade

by Foilhat on Mar 19, 2010 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

oh, i will change it but idk if i’ll do it right now because it’s gonna mess my whole draft up, i’ll see what i can do though, thanks for the update

Just change the names SD would take Brown their probably.

You can say " SD needs a CB and a NT but they take Brown to play RT because its great value, until they figure out if they want to pay their All Pro LT Marcus McNeil."

by Foilhat on Mar 19, 2010 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

ok, you think SD would take Brown? Actually i guess so because you’re right with McNeil

Price is OK

Carrington is not

Its about 2 rounds too early by my board

but if he’s a 2nd rounder for you, that’s OK.

Giants don’t need 2 DL’s. At least in the first 2 rounds (they’d then have 10DL’s under contract…)

Master of the squeegee

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 19, 2010 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea i get it, i see him as a 2-3 round pick, i couldn’t think of whoelse to give them 2nd round. Any tips?

I'd be good with Cam Thomas

something different (I think you’d have to change Price in round one with that at least…)

Reshad or Chad Jones would be good. You can leave Price alone with this

Lamarr Houston would be good too (again..gotta change that Price pick)

Master of the squeegee

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 19, 2010 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

ok, is it just you, or all NYG fans don’t want Price 1st round?

by atlantalove on Mar 19, 2010 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

No there's more then a few that don't want Price

I have no problem with it..don’t confuse words, I’m OK with it. It just seems every mock gives the Giants him, why…Dunno.

I’d rather have a better value in the first, like Brandon Graham or Trent Williams.

2nd and 3rd round DT’s are better values

Don't think the Colts would take a guard over a left tackle

They take Brown and they get an upgrade at LT and at a guard spot from Charlie Johnson moving from LT to G.

Pouncey could be an awesome Gaurd though

Not so sure

Brown is listed at 6’6, but only 298 lbs. That is inconsistent with the apparently new philosophy of getting bigger to run more effectively.

by 2ndBlueGeneration on Mar 19, 2010 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Brown weighed 303 at the combine

about the same as CJ, who would take Lilja’s place (+15lbs at that spot)

by shake n bake on Mar 19, 2010 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Brown isnt an effective Run Blocker though

I like Pouncey over him for the Colts. He is a much better run Blocker. Also, thanks for Lilja, he should be a good back up for us if we draft an OG.

by darwithabar on Mar 20, 2010 12:37 AM EDT up reply actions

CJ isn't a great run blocker at LT

it’d be a lateral move there and a big upgrade in pass pro

while being an across the board upgrade at LG.

by shake n bake on Mar 20, 2010 1:29 AM EDT up reply actions

I know

But wouldnt that do nothing to help the run game. I really think the Colts will steer clear of Brown unless it can trade up and get him in the mid second (Doubtfull). They are gonna try to build the run game and Iupati and Pouncey would be the Anwser for that. I think CJ and Pouncey at LT and LG are a better RB tandem than Brown and CJ.

by darwithabar on Mar 21, 2010 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

not at LT, but the run blocking would be better at LG

than if they took anyone there but Pouncey, and it’d be the biggest upgrade to the passing game they could make. Yeah they want to get better in the run game, but passing still comes first.

Plus there are mid to late round guards that could step right in. After Saffold in the early/mid 2nd it isn’t so for LTs.

by shake n bake on Mar 21, 2010 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

True but Lilja is a pretty good pass blocker

They want to get better at run blocking and thats oobvious. I guarentee they pick a run blocker over a pass blocker unless a very good LT falls to them.

by darwithabar on Mar 22, 2010 3:45 AM EDT up reply actions

*Tackles more important that Guard

Lions

I’ve accepted the fact the Lions might reach for Okung. Don’t compare him to Joe Thomas because he is nowhere near the talent Joe is.

Why do people hate on Okung

People have always said it but he is Legit. Ill agree that he isnt Joe Thomas good but Thomas isnt a whole lot better. If thomas is a 10/10 than Okung is an 8.7/10.

by darwithabar on Mar 20, 2010 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't hate him

I think he is a top-10 talent, but not top-5. He is ONLY considered a top-5 because he happens to play LT. Yes, I understand the whole positional value arguement and that is also the ONLY reason Bradford is being considered #1.
If Okung was so elite, why hasn’t there been talk of him going #1 overall? I haven’t heard or read 1 single person talk about him as a potential #1 overall talent. The Rams OL sucks and they had 2 QBs end up on IR, but Okung isn’t a possibility? He might be as good as Jason Smith, and that guy was a reach last year.
Okungs not even the consensus best tackle in this draft. There are alot of tackles in this class, but not one of them is elite. They’re all just good, not great

Life is a waste of time and time is a waste of life... so lets get wasted all the time and have the time of our lives!

by JazzyBBP on Mar 20, 2010 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

There hasnt been any talk because they are paying smith so much, thats easy.

Also, Okung is the real deal and he is definitly a top 5 talent. He is way better than Jason Smith bro. People always said he is only the best LT and not a true top 5 pick but they were wrong. This guy is leggit and ie easily one of the 5 or 6 best player. Trust me, he isnt just the best LT. He is the best LT to come out since Jake Long.

by darwithabar on Mar 21, 2010 12:17 AM EDT up reply actions

He is less polished than Thomas but i believe he has more upside.

Okung has crazy upside at LT. His combination of strength and length give him a lot of room to improve. He only has one year of experience at LT and that was in a full spread offense so his run blocking won’t be polished but he is a premiere pass blocker.

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

by ChiefsfanJon on Mar 20, 2010 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Even still

He flourishede run blocking at Ok St.The only person I ever saw abuse him was Von Millewr and he will probably be a first round pick. No shame in that. I hope the Chiefs take him if they decide to go LT.

Thats a very plausable first round.

No stellar picks dropping out of the sky for the vultures like my Vikes at the bottom of the draft.

I’m not a McCourty fan (but he fits the vikes system) but see how you could like him. The Chad Jones pick in the second is another real possibility.
I would probably have given them Pouncy in the first (we lost our back-up O-lineman Hicks) . But under your draft I had Chad Jones as the next BPA for the Vikings. Good job

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

Patriots 1st rounder

Given that the Patriots recently signed Alge Crumpler, they won’t have a need to pick a TE in the first. They can settle on picking one in the later rounds, whether it’s Pitta or Quarless.

The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL

The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back

by atlantalove on Mar 19, 2010 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Not saying he's the answer, but there's now less urgency at TE with the signing.

That’s where Pitta or Quarless would come in.

I know Crumpler won’t be at NE very long, but enough to be a mentor to one or the other so that he would take his place.

Not to mention New England emphasizes the TE as a blocker-first, receiver-second kind of player. Gresham doesn’t fit the category.

Besides, the lines on both sides of the ball are bigger, more pressing needs. The first rounder would be better suited with picking either Odrick or reaching for Saffold.

Even though Biiiilllll Biiiillliiicheck (how do I reach this kids) has drafted TEs in the first below. He would have to be high to Gresham at 22 overall.

Seahawks

It is not likely that they take Spiller or even address the RB position until Rd 4 or later. Seahawks seem to be satisfied with JJones, Forsett, and QGanther working in their ZBS. I think they would take Charles Brown at 14. They need an OT desperately (only have Locklear and Willis). Brown already is familiar with Carroll’s system and that gives him an advantage over other OTs they could take.
At 60, Seattle needs help in their secondary (only have Jamar Adams and Jordan Babineaux at S)(Need a starting CB opposite Trufant/Lucas is FA and will not be resigned/Wilson is too short to play every down and has been exploited in the past). Reshad or Chad Jones could work. Also, Patrick Robinson or Amari Spievey would be considered

Veldheer

He doesn’t fit the prototype OT that Gibbs uses in his ZBS. Think about the Gibbs’ Broncos OLine. The OTs are smaller and quick and have good footwork.
Seattle has consistently said they don’t plan on making any early picks for RB, despite what critics think of their RB situation. Spiller may be the next Chris Johnson, but Seattle doesn’t seem interested. They want one-cut guys and think that they can get production out of a lesser back if their OLine does what they want.

That said don’t count a ILB or a CB at #27. If a safety or OT with 1st round value falls Dallas would take him in a heartbeat.

From what I've read here in Dallas

they like the fact Pouncey can play center or gaurd and also has played OT in college. If there is not a player there with 1st round value in Jerry’s mind he’s not scared to pull the trigger on a trade down.

by DIRE WOLF on Mar 19, 2010 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe

But not likely. Iupati is the better overall prospect. Additionally, Gurode is probably the Cowboys’ best lineman. Pouncey’s ability to fill in at Center is a bonus, but not a huge one.

by Conjunction on Mar 19, 2010 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Gurode graded out not so good last year

for Dallas and gets help from Kosier calling the blocking schemes at the LOS. I would be surprised if Dallas takes either one of them. They think they can get O-linemen in the later rounds and develop them. As I said if a OT drops to them they like, then I think they would pull the trigger on him.

Ok, here's a few

-Bradford is not like Tony Romo (Bradford is a lot more accurate and smrt)
-Okung is not like Joe Thomas (Okung is less physical and more athletic)
-I’d say Suh is more like Kevin Wiliams, not McCoy (who is a little smaller and more like tommie harris)
- I’d compare McClain to Zach Thomas. Neither are physically imposing but both have very high football IQs
-Not sure who I’d compare Pierre-Paul to, but not Adams. He’s not as big or physical as Adams. Maybe Jevon Kearse.
-Bryant is more like Brandon Marshall. Big, strong, not that fast.
-And Gresham is the exact opposite of Pettigrew. Pettigrew’s strength is blocking while Gresham can’t block at all but can stretch the field.

Those are the ones that stood out to me. Mostly the Gresham-Pettrigrew one. Those guys couldn’t be more different.

I agree that Bradford and Romo are dissimilar

But not based on those counts. Bradford’s a pocket passer; Romo likes to scramble around. And he’s not unintelligent in the least, he just has little faith in his line and so has to get rid of the ball quickly at times. I can’t really blame him for that. The guy scored a 37 on the Wonderlic and is starting to get Peyton-esque with his pre-polay audibles; he’s become excellent at spotting blitzes and coverages.

These 9 are definitely better:

Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning, Brett Favre (if he’s not retired), Aaron Rodgers, Matt Schaub

So, he might be the 10th (or 9th if Brett retires) best QB in the NFL now that Kurt Warner is done. Are any of those guys absolutely worse than Romo?

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

by axel360 on Mar 20, 2010 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

All 4 of them are better than Romo

Manning has a SB, and has done well for the Giants.

Rodgers is one of the most under-rated starting Qbs. He’s in the top 10.

Schaub is a total beast. His flaw is that he screws up when he’s pressured but still he’s a heckuva QB, also top 10.

Favre is Farve. He’s still a top 10 QB.

He's better than Eli

And probably better than Schaub, who looked really good last year-but It’s one year.
I’d also take him ahead of Roethlisberger in the regular season, and very plausibly ahead of Favre. Have people been so quick to forget that abomination of a season he put up with the Jets?

But you guys are both Cowboys fans

of course you overrate Romo. You might have an argument about Schaub because he hasnt even been to the playoffs, but the other 8 aren’t even debatable. And the fact you are considering taking him above Big Ben (who I absolutely hate more than any player in the NFL) automatically takes away all credibility.

simply because I have no bias (I’m a Seahawk fan and everyone on the team blows). I’d say Romo is anywhere from the 7th-10th best QB in the NFL. That’s probably higher than most non-Cowboy fans would put him.

I think that's quite fair

7-10 is about right.
The bottom line is that this argument has been hashed out on this very site far too often. We’ve gone to statistical breakdowns, scouting analyses, snap-by-snap breakdowns. The fact is that neither side is willing to budge.
So if you’re willing to leave it at 7-10, so am I.

- Gaines Adams and JPP are similar coming out

- Again Bryant to Ochocinco isn’t too off
- Personally Suh is the exact same as Seymour and not very close to Williams
- I agree with the Gresham being completly off from Pettigrew. I heard their names together in the same sentence(it was like how Gresham is a worse blocker, worse receiver than Pettigrew) so i thought them alike, just Gresham worse(poormans). I agree that that comp was far off, who would you compare Gresham to?

But Bryant and Ocho are much different. Dez is much closer to Marshall than Chad Johnson.

And Suh is very close to Kevin Williams. Same size, strength, agility, speed. Both are pretty good pass rushers that also are stout in the run game. They’re very very close.

And have you seen Patrick Willis and McClain play? Physically, they couldn’t be more far apart. Willis is a freak athlete. Rolando is well below average (as far as starting LBs go).

Adam isn’t the athlete JPP is and wasn’t as raw. Jevon Kearse is the closest thing to JPP.

Also, change McCoy’s to Tommie Harris (and not just because they’re both Sooners). Both are undersized, disruptive, pass-rushing, strictly 3-Tech DTs.

Kinda funny, but no becuas they are similar size, both are decent KR, and both have similar styles of play at CB

Also since when is Bradford not mobile, he has the same speed as Romo, he’s not a run dependent QB, but he can scramble if needed

Call me crazy

But Bradford kind of reminds me of Marc Bulger. Both are smart and accurate, but both are injury-prone and don’t handle pressure well.

Am I crazy?

like getting sacked or hurried by opposing defenders, I didn’t mean that he was bad in big games.

in addition to the ones already mentioned...

I’ll just pick!

Bruce Campbell is NOT Brandon Albert. Maybe you say the 6"6 314 and thought they are clones?

Albert was a guard in college tho he always had the talent to be a tackle. Campbell’s barely played (17 games total) and while Albert is a good athlete, Campbell is an elite one.

The on’es mentioned before weren’t even rediculous, Bryant=Ochocinco isn’t bad, McCoy=KWilliams is good, Suh=Seymour is perfect, McClain is the best ILB prospect since Pat Willis so…that’s not toorediculous, they have similar skill sets and McClain will put up similar stats to Willis, JPP is very close to Gaines Adams when Adams came out of college, and Bradford=Romo isn’t too far off.

These comps aren’t even that bad, ur just difficult. When you take the times to do comps then we can talk, because as of right now im the only person(who i know of) who does comps so…STFU!

Didn't say I want Earl Thomas

I said he’s not out of the question if he’s BPA

and no…Kenny Phillips and Rolle can play SS or FS, its why they got either of them, they’re versatile..so they’re not all FS.

Looking at the board, I’d go Trent Williams or Brandon Graham.

Good Mock

The Chiefs picks suck in the second round but overall its one of the better mocks. Well, the Chiefs picks dont suck but I just couldnt see them passing on Tate if he is there with our first pick in the 2nd round.

by darwithabar on Mar 20, 2010 12:48 AM EDT reply actions

Did you watch the Chiefs games?

Our outside rushers got pressure but because we have no NT at all the QB just steps up into the pocket and makes his pass. Hali was badly held probably 5 times a game that weren’t called. Yes we need an edge rusher but we don’t need one in the first 2 rounds unless Jerry Hughes falls to us in the 2nd.

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

by ChiefsfanJon on Mar 20, 2010 8:43 AM EDT up reply actions

i thought about giving the Chiefs a WR, but though about defense was more important, i’ll try and give em a WR next mock :)

Dont talk to me about how you had no epic 34NT

Let me give you a small lesson. More than half of all defensive snaps take place with nickel personal, and very few 34NT that play in base actually play in nickel. A 34NTs ability to effect say a 3rd and 8 is almost nil because he’s most likely drinking gatoraid.

Secondly the Chiefs rank 2nd to last in sacks, thats called a fail. If you dont believe me, then Im not sure you have watched any Chiefs games or any football at all possibly.

So please spare me your talk about some big man will solve all your pass rush problems and how your boy Hali was held. And dont forget Mike Vrabel is your starting OLB with 2 sacks to his name in 09.

Go back to dreaming about an epic Eric Berry playing with a front 7 without a pass rush because all safeties are pathetic without a QB pressure.

So a NT doesnt help your pass rush?

Also, Ron Edwards played about 45% of all the Chiefs snaps and thats not counting our back ups. However, im still stuck on you saying a NT doesnt help your pass rush. Seriously, thats retarded.

by darwithabar on Mar 21, 2010 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

I said most 34 starting NTs dont play nickel

And I also said the Chiefs finished 2nd to last in sacks, two things you failed to mention. I also pointed out that the Chiefs lack no 2nd passrusher, and considering most teams attempt to have three, thats quite reflective of the overall state of the defense.

by Foilhat on Mar 21, 2010 2:07 AM EDT up reply actions

Why do I have to restate those facts. I know those are true

However, you said a NT doesnt help our pass rush. Thats wrong. Also, 3-4 defenses dont all play the same some your logic is flawwed.

by darwithabar on Mar 22, 2010 3:49 AM EDT up reply actions

I can tell by your picture your a Charger fan

I double checked its true. How does it feel never winning a single SB, having one of the worst stadiums in the NFL, and overall being a bunch of choke artists. Your SB nation page barely breaks 60 comments a post because most people in southern cal dont even know there is a football team in SD. Your SB nation has the worst person running it out of all the SB nation pages. Also, several of MLS pages get more hits than the Chargers SB page gets. Your franchise is pathetic. Chiefs- 4 Championships Chargers- 0

by darwithabar on Mar 21, 2010 12:29 AM EDT up reply actions

This my friend is the definition of a straw man

First you attempt to flame my franchise for having no championships, while completing your post by stating the Chiefs have 4 “championships”. ROFL This not only was more than a decade before I (and probably you were even born), it was before the merger. So please spare me the nostalgia, and get real; not one of those “championships” were even in the stinking NFL pal.

Secondly you go on to flame my avatar, “most people in so cal”, and my account for being new. Then proclaim that somehow Charger fans have forgot about their squad; but unfortunetly you didnt mention the last Chiefs blackout wasnt even five months ago, and I really dont remember when the last time was we didnt fill our stadium. :)

In conclusion I implore you to flame away. Please enlighten me about how epic the Chiefs were in the AFL, how an epic Ron Edwards will be the next Warren Sap, about how great KC is compared with my city next to the ocean, about how no one goes to BFTB…

by Foilhat on Mar 21, 2010 2:29 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL

This is hilarious. You accuse me of using Straw man arguements. However, you obviously dont understand logicall falacies. I replyied to your post with logic. This is a seperate post and in no way diverts from the conversation above because it has nothing to do with it. In this seperate post, not even part of the debate we had above I only express my dislike for the joke of a franchise that is the chargers. Ever since I was a kid you guys have sucked. You have only been good lately and you guys have never done anything of significance. You can discredit the Chiefs 4 Championships all you want but that doesnt mean you guys will have even 1, So I dont know why you do it. I would probably do it too though if I was a Charger fan. The fact is, We have won a super bowl, have a better stadium, more fans, richer history, etc. You’re are exactly right about SD though. Nice city, not the stadium though, one of the worst stadiums in the NFL. However, I dont really care if you live by the ocean, most of my life Ive lived by the ocean and I dont even live in KC. However, KC is a beutiful town that is rich in history, best BBQ in the world, and hardly a bad place to spend some time in. Maybe you should make the trip for a Chiefs game so you can learn how to tailgate, you’ll be better for it.

by darwithabar on Mar 22, 2010 4:03 AM EDT up reply actions

First two picks

I think the first two picks are spot on….I think if the Chiefs get that, we will be looking good, but I just don’t see McCluster as the 2b pick. Yes he could be a slot WR and a KR/PR, but I think that can be had later on in the draft. Either OL or LB is a bigger need with that 2b pick. But who knows really, Pioli and Co. could take a completely different direction than any of us are even thinking.

by JASiege on Mar 20, 2010 4:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Actually Safety is the biggest need

Once Troy went down the D fell apart so badly it let Oakland and KC score in the final seconds. With Troy we were able to beat Minnesota. We need a good saftey so that next time Troy goes down we aren’t so desperate. And in the 2nd I’d take Thomas. NE wouldn’t take him. They drafted Ron Brace to be their NT of the future

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
