San Diego Chargers team needs
Another disappointing playoff run and roster changes have left the San Diego Chargers with holes to fill. This is going to be an important offseason for the Chargers to see if they can retool at some positions while keeping their recent success rolling. One position that won’t be addressed is the quarterback position where Phillip Rivers continues to grow.
1. Running Back
- LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles are both on the market and are likely to be wearing different uniforms next season. Their departure leaves the Chargers extremely thin at the running back position. Rumors are that they are looking to move Antonio Cromartie in an attempt to pick up some help at the position. Some options at the end of the first round include Ryan Matthews, Jahvid Best, and Jonathan Dwyer. Dwyer looks like less of an option after an unimpressive combine.
2. Nose Tackle
- Jamal Williams is aging and unable to stay healthy. The nose tackle is crucial to the success of a 3-4 defense, look for the Chargers to address this position in the draft. Some options for the Chargers include Terrence Cody and Cam Thomas
3. Offensive Tackle
- Marcus McNeil is solid but struggled a little last season. Depth and talent are needed at this position. Phillip Rivers is the engine for this franchise so his protection and health needs to be a top priority.

Disagree on OT. Instead, a CB
McNeill has been solid his whole career. If anything, the pass protection problems we had the first half of last season came from the interior of the line and that came from losing our starting center to injury and having a rookie right guard. The team has a lot of faith in RT Jeromy Clary as well.
Like always, AJ Smith will probably spend some lower picks on developmental O-line guys — he always does. But don’t expect a high pick on the O-line.
Instead, I would put our third need at CB. Jammer is 30 and we might be losing Cromartie (if not this season, then probably next season). Cason, a 2008 first round pick, looks ready to step up but that leaves our depth dangerously thin. Also, AJ loves picking CBs high; we have three first-round CBs on the roster. It wouldn’t surprise me if we took a CB high if the value is there.
Best or Spiller likely if they are still around, but lots of decent RB’s to pick from if those two are gone
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
Solid Post
Would agree with the positional needs and even the order. Im hoping for Ben Tate in a slight trade up in the 2nd round.
Would hope we go best player available NT, 34DE, OT, or DB in the first.
I'm not that big on calling OT a need
It’s definitely not something they need to address early in the draft.
Maybe a bigger need is a KR/PR. The Chargers need to address that with Sproles gone.
I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
maybe Javier Arenas in the later rounds… Good Kick returner and adds depth to the cornerback position.
Jon Dove
It does seem like a possibility
