2 round Mock Draft
Round 1
1. St. Louis Rams - Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame
The Rams need their future QB and Clausen is the best QB in the draft. He is head and shoulders above Bradford as far as being able to come right in and contribute. Bradford would be a better fit somewhere that he could sit for a year and adjust to being under center.
2. Detroit Lions - Russell Okung LT Oklahoma State
The Lions need an improvement to the O-Line and they are in a position to pick up the best tackle in the draft. Okung is a very good prospect at LT and he can man RT until Backus retires or he can step in immediately and start at LT. He is very good at pass blocking but will need to improve his run blocking skills.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Kong Suh DT Nebraska
Suh is possibly the best talent in a very talented draft. The Bucs need a player to come in and help their horrible D-Line and Suh can do that by getting to the passer and stuffing the run. Suh is a beast and never gives up on a play. His only downside is his past knee surgeries but he is too good to pass up.
4. Washington Redskins - Bryan Bulaga LT Iowa
Shanahan builds his teams the right way in the trenches and he waits for his QB. He isn't afraid to pull the trigger on a strong armed QB but there are more of those in next years draft so i believe he builds the line in preparation for that pick next year.
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Eric Berry S Tennessee
Pioli builds through the trenches, period. He doesn't believe in a traditional positional value system instead relying on his belief in the lines winning. That being said the Chiefs need a playmaker. The trenches have been drafted a lot in the last 10 years and really haven't had any good results. Dorsey and Jackson need to develop along with Brandon Albert and only a NT is an absolute must in this draft.
6. Seattle Seahawks - Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma
I believe if Clausen was here then he is the pick but since it is Bradford he continues to slide. Seattle picks up the best pure pass rush DT in the draft and should be able to develop into a very good DT at the front of their defense.
7. Cleveland Browns - Joe Haden CB Florida
The Browns need a CB to come in and make their team better. Haden is a very good CB prospect and he erased his speed doubts, caused at the combine, by running well at his pro day. Haden should start immediately and be able to lock down a vast majority of WR's in the league.
8. Oakland Raiders - Bruce Campbell LT Maryland
This pick just makes too much since. LT is a huge need by Oakland and Bruce Campbell is just a freak athlete which the boss man likes.
9. Buffalo Bills - Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma
The Bills get a very good QB prospect at pick 9, who'd have thought it. Bradford to me is more of a risk than Clausen but also has a higher ceiling. He could be an elite QB or a bust by failing to transition to playing under center, something that Clausen already knows how to do.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech
The Jag's need to get a pass rush and Morgan is the best pass rusher in this draft. He is very polished and should step in immediately and contribute getting pressure on the qb.
11. Denver Broncos - Dan Williams NT Tennessee
The Broncos picked up a possible stop gap at NT but they need a NT of the future and Dan Williams is the best NT in the draft. He is kind of a big 4-3 defensive tackle more than a pure 3-4 NT but he will have the opportunity to learn from one of the best.
12. Miami Dolphins - Earl Thomas S Texas
The Dolphins need help on defense and Thomas is BAP. He fits a need at safety and some consider him a better prospect than Eric Berry (Crazy people)
13. San Fransisco 49ers - C.J. Spiller RB Clemson
The niners need a player to come in and provide some big plays for their offense as well as being able to take over kick return and punt return duties.
14. Seattle Seahawks - Trent Williams OT Oklahoma
The Seahawks need to get a tackle in this draft and Williams is the best player left at that position. He improved his stock by showing quickness at the combine but he needs to get that quickness on the field.
15. New York Giants- Rolando McClain ILB Alabama
McClain only runs a 4.7 40 which is relatively slow for a 4-3 ILB but he can come in and help stuff the run something it seems the Giants have struggled doing. McClain is also comfortable reading the QB's eyes in a zone as long as he doesn't have to drop deep in zone.
16. Tennessee Titans - Justin Pierre-Paul DE USF
The Titans need a pass rush and JPP is a freak athlete much like well The Freak. He is very raw but i believe he will be a very good DE if he goes to a 4-3 team.
17. San Fransisco 49ers - Anthony Davis LT Rutgers
The 49ers pick up their RT with their second 1st round pick which is one of their biggest needs. Anthony Davis was a possible top 10 pick until he performed poorly at the combine and dropped his stock a little bit.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers - Mike Iupati G Idaho
The Steelers need offensive line help and Iupati the best interior lineman in this draft. He didn't show well at any position other than his natural LG at the senior bowl but i believe it is only because of inexperience.
19. Atlanta Falcons - Brandon Graham DE Michigan
The Falcons have to get pressure on the ball and Graham can do that. He is a little undersized for 4-3 end but he has a non stop motor and never gives up on a play. He gets to the QB and that's all that matters.
20. Houston Texans - Kyle Wilson CB Boise State
The Texans need CB help and Wilson is a very good prospect. He has good instincts as well as the speed needed to keep up with the WR's in his division.
21. Cincinnati Bengals - Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State
Bryant somehow falls to the Bengals and they are ecstatic to put a weapon opposite Chad Johnson that will eventually be the #1 WR there. They have no problem taking people with bad attitudes.
22. New England Patriots- Sergio Kindle DE / OLB Texas
The Patriots need a rush LB and Kindle is the best in this draft. He is a freak athlete at LB but i do not believe he is a "workout warrior" type of bust seeing as he's been in the 1st round all year.
23. Green Bay Packers - Charles Brown OT USC
The Packers have to protect Aaron Rodgers he was the most sacked QB in the league and any other year Charles Brown would be the second best LT in the draft. He is going to be a great LT.
24. Philadelphia Eagles - Everson Griffin DE USC
The Eagles get a very good DE to get pressure on the QB. Griffin is a 4-3 only end and that is the only reason he slid this far.
25. Baltimore Ravens - Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma
The Ravens need to give Flacco more weapons and Todd Heap is done. Gresham is still an elite TE talent especially as a WR even though he did perform below average at the Combine.
26. Arizona Cardinals - Sean Weatherspoon LB Missouri
Spoon comes in and replaces Dansby at the ILB spot. He is a vocal leader and he and Jerry Porter will have fun out on the field trash talking up a storm.
27. Dallas Cowboys - Jared Odrick DE / DT Penn State
Odrick is big enough to play end in rushing downs and quick enough to play DT on passing downs he is a versatile lineman that would rotate in immediately to help the cowboys defense.
28. San Diego Chargers - Ryan Mathews RB Fresno State
The Chargers need a RB and Matthews seems like the real deal. He is an overall good back not elite at anything but good at everything.
29. New York Jets - Golden Tate WR / KR Notre Dame
The Jets have 2 receivers that can't catch the ball they need to give Sanchez somebody with sure hands to throw to in the slot. Tate can also take over return duties.
30. Minnesota Vikings - Devin McCourty CB Rutgers
The Vikings need to upgrade at CB and McCourty could come in and start immediately improving the only bad part of their defense.
31. Indianapolis Colts - Maurkice Pouncey C/G Florida
With no OT's available Pouncey is selected to provide quality depth and eventually start for Saturday at C.
32. New Orleans Saints - Carlos Dunlap DE Florida
The Saints need a pass rush and Dunlap is a top 5 talent but he is a player that nobody knows if he will reach his potential.
Round 2
33. Rams- Brian Price DT UCLA
34. Lions - Taylor Mays S USC
35. Bucs - Brandon Lafell WR LSU
36. Chiefs - Jerry Hughes DE / OLB TCU
37. Redskins - Brandon Spikes ILB Florida
38. Browns - Ricky Sapp DE / OLB Clemson
39. Raiders - Geno Atkins DT Georgia
40. Chargers - Terrance Cody DT Alabama
41. Bills - Rodger Saffold OT Indiana
42. Bucs - Chad Jones S LSU
43. Dolphins - Cam Thomas DT North Carolina
44. Pats - Corey Wootton DE/ DT Northwestern
45. Broncos - J.D. Walton C Baylor
46. Giants - Nate Allen FS USF
47. Pats - Demaryus Thomas WR Georgia Tech
48. Panthers - Arrelious Benn WR Illinois
49. 49ers - Koa Misi DE / OLB Utah
50. Chiefs - Donovan Warren CB Michigan
51. Texans - Jahvid Best RB Cal
52. Steelers - Morgan Burnett S Georgia Tech
53. Pats - Vladimir Ducasse G/ T UMass
54. Bengals - Aaron Hernandez TE Florida
55. Eagles - Daryl Washington ILB TCU
56. Packers - Patrick Robinson CB Florida State
57. Ravens - Brandon Ghee CB Wake Forest
58. Cardinals - Jared Veldheer OT Hillsdale College
59. Cowboys - Mardy Gilyard WR / KR Cincinatti
60. Chargers - Kareem Jackson CB Alabama
61. Jets - Dominque Franks CB Oklahoma
62. Vikes - Jonathan Dwyer RB Georgia Tech
63. Colts- Tyson Alualu DT Cal
64. Saints - Navarro Bowman LB Penn State

Lions
I’ve accepted the possibility of them reaching for Okung, but giving us Mays in the 2nd? The guy can’t cover a bed with a sheet. All he can do is lay a 1/2way decent hit
I know my favorite team has been a laughingstock this century so far, but that doesn’t mean you have to assume we’re going to keep drafting crappy players. Millen is gone.
Just sayin’
Life is a waste of time and time is a waste of life... so lets get wasted all the time and have the time of our lives!
I was just going on the fans saying safety was a need and mays in the early second isn't a bad pick.
He has great measurables and he was good in coverage his junior year not sure why he had such a terrible year this year but he was exposed. I believe that he can be a good safety at the next level just needs a bit of coaching. Who would you rather have than Mays?
And i would not at all call Okung a reach. He is a very good LT prospect and your LT is 33 years old.
The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

Safety is a need
Jim Schwartz’ defensive scheme doesn’t follow the traditional Free Safety/Strong Safety mold, rather a Left Safety/Right Safety idea. Jones, Allen, or Burnett would be a better fit in the 2nd rd. Jahvid Best is a strong possibility with Kevin Smiths injury probably landing him on the PUP list. CB is a HUGE hole on the team at the moment, so Warren or Ghee could be penciled in.
IMO, the only reason Okung is considered a top-5 prospect is because he plays LT and is going to benefit the most from the positional-value arguement. As an overall player, he’s top-10 but not top-5. There isn’t a consensus best tackle in this draft, he just happens to be the best out of a mediocre talent-pool at the position.
Just my worthless 2 cents

Man, nobody wants Mays even in the later 1st round.
Give him to the Chiefs in the 3rd Jon. :)

Right? He would be a very good SS for us. Him and Berry would really give us some speed over the top.

I was with you in round 1...
then you gave the Texans Jahvid Best in round 2. Over Morgan Burnett. Ben Tate or Montario Hardesty in round 3 would be great for the RB spot. Gimme Burnett in round 2!
Your Niner picks are intruging.
You need to give the Seahawks the pick at 60.
wha i thought that the chargers got the seahawks pick i didn't realize they swapped my bad.
I figured that Best was BPA by far and many teams after the first round go on BPA. I seem to remember the Texans only having one RB and that RB being more of a power back thanks for the feedback though. I’ll admit to knowing little about the texans other than they scored gold by getting Pollard back in a 4-3 defense where he belongs.

by ChiefsfanJon on Mar 20, 2010 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions
I mean, BPA isn’t a bad idea. That was my own personal preference. The Texans could use a FS more than a RB especially considering the division they play in.
Could they go Best? Absolutely. I just think they’d grab Burnett and try for a RB in round 3. We have a few RBs on the roster, but none would be considered power backs. Everyone wants to ship Dwyer to us, but Hardesty seems to be the better fit especially given that he has experience in a zone blocking scheme.
Lol
There you go again. Dwyer ran in a ZBS too. Just say you want Hardesty more. In the triple option you have to be even more adapt to recognizing the holes and being pateint, All things GMs look for when they run a ZBS.

Colts
Pouncey and Alualu are solid picks, but I like Price and Gronkowski significantly better.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Yeah the Price thing was part of me doing this at 8 am.
I actually did the draft and accidentally left Bradford out and didn’t realize it until about pick 43 then i had to shuffle and Price slid a lot. I would love the Colts taking Price at the end of the 1st so that hopefully Pouncey falls to the early second :D

Good with these for Indy
I’d go Spievey (perfect fit for our system) or a reach on Calloway at the end of the 2nd (not that I’m a huge Iowa fan or anything) over Alualu.

Nice picks for Baltimore
Only thing is in the 2nd I really do not see the Ravens passing on Tyson Alualu. He fits everything a Raven is.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Thanks for the input.
I wasn’t aware of a D Line need as a huge need for Baltimore but i had heard their CB’s have been having issues. You know better than I and I certainly agree that Alualu is a Ravens kind of pick.

Ideal draft for the Gints
Big…Large LOL! for the “4.7” being slow part. If you ran the MLB’s for basically every single 4-3 team in the NFL, I doubt that any or many are faster then McCLain.
Eitha way! Thats the ideal 2 rounds for the Gints.
Master of the squeegee
Derrick Johnson runs a 4.58 and he was a 4-3 MLB
Alot of LBs in the NFL run 4.5s and 4.6s. His 4.7 time wasnt that impressive.
Demeco Ryans ran a 4.68
Barrett Ruud ran a 4.72,
Lauranitis, Latupu, Maualuga..all ran “slow” 40 times.
The only time a 40 time is a concern is if its in the range of OL or DL, which is what Spikes was.
I don’t want my MLB running 40 yards anyway.

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Not bad for the Broncos
Although I’m hearing Walton is a 3rd rounder at best. No need to reach for him there.
Yea its a huge need

by darwithabar on Mar 20, 2010 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions
I made it up myself and did not visit ESPN or NFL.com a single time nice try though.
My resources for this draft were mostly looking at mocks from fans of their own teams. I went to their sites and evaluated what their fans felt were biggest needs. And yes this mock is very similar to other mocks around MTD and that is because the people at MTD know what they want for their team. All i did was try to combine what everyone wanted for their team. Did it work out for every team? No. But it doesn’t work out for every team in real life either.
I myself am a chiefs fan and i don’t even know how happy i am with this mock for my own team but i took the picks as they fell to us without reaching. We got 3 good values picks and we still have a couple of holes to fill in the 3rd and 4th.

Good Job Jon
I dont get Hughes in the 2nd. He doesnt fit the sam role so he would be Hali’s back up. He isnt good against the run at all. He would give us added pass rush on obvious passing downs but I dont see him starting over Hali. Also, Love the Warren and Berry pick. We could use some interior OL but im cool with waiting.
Also
Rec’d because your a Chiefs fan making a mock draft.
by darwithabar on Mar 20, 2010 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions
I just think we need to get an elite pass rusher. Hali is very good and should continue getting better. do you think Hali would work starting over Vrabel? I know he was the LE when he was defensive end so that would imply he is sound against the run which is what i mostly saw vrabel doing.
The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.
by ChiefsfanJon on Mar 20, 2010 11:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I think he only played LE because of Allen and then he got used to it
I dont see Hali playing the Sam at all though. Studebaker would be a better option than Hali and Hughes in the Sam Role. I love Hughes though and think he is good value right there and to tell you the truth, I wouldnt be mad.
by darwithabar on Mar 20, 2010 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions
ah i see it always confused me about Hali playing LE but being a ROLB
My biggest problem is that i haven’t got the Chiefs a NT yet. Probably should have grabbed Cody with 2a but hindsight is 20-20 and i was trying to be unbiased in making the draft.

I understand
Dont question your mock because of me. If the Chiefs are drafting for depth than let it be (Alot of fans have this misconception that teams dont do that because of their record, not true!) He is a solid player and could probably develop into a SAM.

I hate the Golden Tate and Gresham selections
and I think you have Best falling way too far. But overall this is one of the better mocks Ive seen so far. Great work.
who would you rather have selected in those picks?

The TE pick is a reach
And the Ravens GM Ozzy doesnt reach. Plus there’s something called position value, which that pick also violates; and the Ravens dont do that either. Go back and look at their first round selections.
In that situation they would mostly likely take a DB o DL.
Honestly the Jets Golden Tate is way off base. The Jets are a running/defensive team. They would rather have another RB then a WR; but Id guess they would go with a defensive front 7 pick there, probably a OLB.
An elite pass catching tight end picked at the end of the 1st violates positional value?
I don’t think so. Not for a team that has a young QB that needs weapons. Both of those teams drafted young gifted QB’s and they need to give them tools to throw to or accept that the QB’s will become the next Kyle Boller or Rex Grossman.
I know the Jets are a defense / run oriented team but you can’t run over everyone you need to be able to throw the ball. They have 2 receivers that can’t catch the ball as their starters and they need a sure handed receiver that Sanchez can dump it off to and let him make a play which is what Tate excels at.
The Ravens have a sure handed receiver to cross the middle which is what boldin is great at but they need somebody to stretch the field vertically and pull the safeties back allowing boldin to cut underneath. That is what Gresham can do. He is deceptively fast in pads and he can make the tough catches.

Many WRs and TEs that are consider elite prospects turn into nothing more than wasted first round picks. Im not saying the Ravens wont draft a TE just that I consider that selection a reach and a violation of positional value. Ozzie doesnt like to break either rule let alone both.
The Ravens need a CB and could also use a defensive linemen, TEs are historically not hard to find after the first round.
As far as the Jets go, they really have little need for a small receiver. They rarely even go three wide at all, and have a decent return man already. They would most likely take a pass rusher, defensive linemen or safety.
But to me its not about what a team needs at the bottom of the first round, which you wish to debate about. Its about getting the best value. And those two picks are both poor value imo.
Thing you gotta realize about the Jets...
is that Sanchez was a rook. They basically just didn’t pass with him and max protected basically every time when they did.
I doubt that will always be the case…and for real, the underrating of Golden Tate is getting a big laughable at this point (not you foil..basically the overal consensus I see on Tate).
This dude is a hell of a football player, every bit a young Hines Ward style tough bastard WR.
And don’t sweat the 5"11 thing, he can go up and get a ball with the best of em. He’ll be working against Revis in practice too..so it wouldn’t be like he’ll be going against a Schmo learning out to compete.
The best thing the Jets could do in this draft, unless they’re 100% sold on someone like Odrick, is get Tate.
He’d 5"11 195lbs or so in stature, but plays like he’s 6"2 240lbs.

I watched ND every Saturday
All Golden Tate does is step up and make big plays. He will be an excellent #2 receiver in this league.
If he's got Braylon Edwards lining up on the opposite side
I’d put money he becomes your #1 before the season’s over. And I’m not talking about the stupid height argument that a #1 can’t be under 6 foot – I’m talking production.
TO wasnt a number 1 in PHi or DAL or SF
Randy Moss isnt a number 1. Come on now. Maybe its the brain waves……..
That point wasnt suppose to illicit an argument
I was simply overstating the fact true number ones catch the football, before they run. They are called receivers for a reason.
Well your post isnt fact and you stated it so...
I was only replying to that. Brandon Marshall, Marcus Colston, Antonio Gates, Vernon Davis, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, Brent Celek, Dallas Clark, Dwayne Bowe, Ted Ginn, Santonio Holmes, Derrick Mason, Mario Manningham, Chansi Stuckey are all in the top 20 in drops. However, they are all top 40 pass catchers in this league.
Do yourself a favor
And calculate the number of drops per catch. Since it makes good mathematical sense that the more times someone tries to catch the ball the more drops he will have. And after that please quit taking my statements as literal truths, that you must debunk by prostituting the english language.
This is my last response to you because I shouldnt need a whole paragraph to say that “WRs that drop balls suck, and receivers that suck arent true number ones.” Anyone with half a brain can make that logical connection.
Thats cool, but it still doesnt back your statement up. You said WRs that drop the ball are not number 1 WRs.
You said nothing about Wrs with bad drops to catch ratios.
Also
The line “Your post isnt fact and you stated it so….” was suppossed to be ironic. However, I dont really check my spelling on this website because it is stupid. This is a blog, just a place to talk football. This isnt a mid term or term paper.
Straw man
A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent’s position.
Really?
I know what a straw man arguement is. I know what logical fallacies are. You have one in your post above. Instead of strictly making a response to my post, you insult my inteligence. (Which I dont get considering you wear a piece of tin foil on your head). So please stop refering “Straw Man”, When you have numerous logical fallacies scattered through out your posts on this very page and web site. It really is desperate and annoying.

Count me as someone who doesnt like Golden Tate
But then again Ive been know to hate on just about all receiving prospects. If I was building a team I might never take one in the first. Seems to be the most overrated position in football, at least imo. But if you think he would be a number 2, and would help the Sanchise then I respect you opinion as a NYJ fan; but for my money you guys should draft a OLB.
I ain't a Jets fan...
Giants. Since I don’t think you know that’s an insult, I won’t take it as one :)
I just watch all the Jets games cuz I like to see them lose. But I get a perspective watching them and they can use a WR.
Not all teams are blessed with Norv Turner designing plays or an for talent that brings along Vincent Jackson, Floyd and of course Gates.
When you have a franchise QB…the best thing you can do is get him weapons.
A WR like Braylon Edwards and his dropsies can halt the development and get him called average…see:Manning, Eli and Burress, Plaxico

HAHA
Nice. Well you are right in that the Chargers do have some great WRs, ironiclly the only first rounder they have on the roster sucks. So maybe that has skewed my perception regarding the position as a whole. Edwards though, that guy actually might make the Sanchise worse just by being on the same field as him. So plus one on that.
Gmen have done a great job developing their own WRs, all non first round guys if I remember right. You do have to admit, it’s a solid and cheap strategy that allows a team to pick higher impact positions with their 1st round selections.
But I digress maybe the Jets should take a shot on a WR for their QB, it is kinda a poor WR class. So maybe getting one early does make more sense then I give it credit for.
I can see why the 1st round bust skews your view
Giants had a couple first round busts of their own, and guys like Toomer and Steve Smith have been excellent as 2nd rounders as well as Manningham coming along last year (who was a 3rd rounder cuz he’s an idiot-6 on the wonderlic, and smokes weed- who doesn’t?)
But the Giants basically got their most talented WR last year with Hakeem Nicks.
I guess it comes down to WHO you draft. Cuz if you draft a Buster Davis..vs. players like Jackson in the 3rd (?) then yea, I’d wait.
But then again, a team like the Colts consistently find value at the end of the 1st (Wayne, Gonzalez)

Disagree with the Rams
I’m sure you probably expected this, but Clausens ability to contribute right outta the chute notwithstanding, Bradford’s the better prospect. I’ve heard all the stats about Clausens Junior year and the deserved accolades he has gotten along with them. I just think if we need a franchise QB, that first year ability to start right away can’t have that much of an important role in the decision. If we’re looking for someone who can stand up to the pressure of compromised protection then the answer, for me at least, is Suh, and some added protection. But if we think it’s OK to go QB in the first overall, meaning theres no other way to address the position, which I disagree with, then it has to be the guy with the most upside, and all the intangibles. It wouldn’t hurt too bad to sit him until we know #1 that he’s got the offense down, and #2 that we can protect him.
Bucs wont pick Safety in 2nd
They have Sean Jones now, who is most likely better than the safeties available in round 2. I think Corey Wootten would be the pick there. They have no depth at DE and only 1 decent starter, so this would improve their line.
thanks for the input. I just assumed that the bucs need a safety with all the talk of them possibly taking Berry.
If they made a free agent acquisition to fill the spot then awesome i will update it when i make my last mock before the draft.
The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

Jon
Your Giants picks are ideal for us. If this was how the draft panned out for us I would be stoked.
Do not like the ODrick selection over Pouncey.
DE/NT did not lose Dallas any games this season. An OL that was suspect did. Pouncey would be the choice here. I would rather draft Kareem Jackson here over Gilyard, much better value. He gives us a true dime CB and future starter and allows Alan Ball to move full time to FS.
+1
I think Pouncey’s a better fit for what’s needed. However if they do pass on OL in the 1st, they’d better not pass on it again in the 2nd.
