2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 1
The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft is underway, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. VanRam, lead blogger at SB Nation's St. Louis Rams blog, Turf Show Times, checks in to make the first overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!
With the first overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams have selected Sam Bradford, quarterback, Oklahoma.
VanRam says: Re-building projects need cornerstones, both for ceremonial purposes and for the structure itself. When you've been tasked with re-building a franchise from mostly ashes, you have to get those vital cornerstones in place as you move forward.
St. Louis Rams general manager Billy Devaney and his rookie coaching staff (led by Steve Spagnuolo) started up front last year, drafting OT Jason Smith with the second overall pick, signing free agent C Jason Brown and releasing oft-injured future Hall of Fame tackle Orlando Pace. The defensive line needs work as well, but there is no more essential cornerstone in professional football than at quarterback. Sam Bradford is the best quarterback available, with medical questions almost certainly cleared. Bradford might not truly be the best player available in the draft (at the top of his game he is pretty close to it), but he is good enough to be the future face of the Rams - the cornerstone they need to take the next step forward after watching their dwindling offensive capabilities not even get them to 11 points a game last season.
Mocking Dan reacts: There's not a lot here for me to say, as I've been saying Bradford to St. Louis for a couple of months now. He would be the face of the team's franchise as it tries to regain credibility.
The consensus has become that Ndamukong Suh is the most talented player in this year's draft. But how many wins does a defensive tackle get you compared to a quarterback?
Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Ndamukong Suh/DT/Nebraska, 2 - Eric Berry/S/Tennessee, 3 - Gerald McCoy/DT/Oklahoma, 4 - Russell Okung/OT/Oklahoma State, 5 - Rolando McClain/MLB/Alabama
Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of the Bradford-to-St. Louis pick? Please be sure to check out Turf Show Times for all of your Rams needs.

Well, this is exactly what I would have done, too. Nice pick, VanRam. :)

The pick has to be a QB.
I like Clausen more than Bradford, but I will give you credit for recognizing that a project QB in the second or third round would not cut it. Tough to pass Suh by, but delaying the selection of a QB [again] was just keeping this team in the basement with no hope of moving forward.
I think the pick works out really well, I think Bradford will be a really good dome QB, considering 8 home games + 2 in AZ, that’s at least 10 games a season guranteed in a dome. Also their hard running game will definitely help Bradford develop…
I was born in Buffalo, and NO, it's not a suburb of New York City
good selection
best QB in the draft if healthy. above average arm, makes good decisions and is extremely accurate with his throws. doesn’t seem to carry some of the baggage that Clausen does and has a stronger arm.
Believe this is the first time "Bradford" and "stronger arm"
have been formulated in a sentence.

Good pick in my opinion
But would they need to draft a WR in one of the other rounds? I mean drafting a franchise QB is great, but he needs someone to throw to. Donnie Avery is a very good quality receiver but if your only gonna give the kid one WR to throw too hes gonna have some problems. Or they could draft a nice receiving TE….Aaron Hernandez for instance.

I can appreciate it, but I don't have to like it.
I still think we’re a year from being ready to properly handle and protect a fresh new quarterback. I would have much rather had us shore up both sides of the line, and proven that we are truly ready to have a 70 million dollar player running our plays.
Look at Detroit last year, they went with the popular consensus, took Stanford, and this year they are picking second instead of first. A quarterback can make your system elite, but he wont pull it from the gutter alone.
+1
I probably would’ve taken Suh but Bradford wasn’t a bad pick. Also what really killed Detroit was taking a TE (Pettigrew) instead of Oher with the pick they got from Dallas.
Adopted Giant: Mike Krukow.
Grab Some Pine, Meat
Kevin Frandsen: The best SS on the Giants roster
Hoping for BowkerMania to hit AT&T Park in 2010
Also what killed Detroit
Was having a group of deaf middle school girls play corner for us. In retrospect, we should have tried to get football players.
They got the best player in the draft at the most important position on the field
not much to not like here.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
I remember Bradford picking apart a very good Mizzou team in 2007
and thinking, “My God, this kid is smooth. He’s got superstar written all over him.” 3 years and a busted shoulder later, I can’t help but think the same thing if I really think about it. I just think he’s a winner. Don’t know why. Just a good feeling.
I understand picking a QB...
…but too be honest there aren’t any QBs that “wow” me in this year’s, or next year’s draft. I gave it a B because it’s the right position, but I can’t give it an A because he’s not an elite QB, in my opinion.
Also, I’d go with Clausen (I’d give the grade a B+ if it was Clausen) because the Rams have a knack for sending their QBs to the IR- and with a QB like Bradford, that’s bad news. Clausen is resilient, knows how to play and if his only knock is he feels “entitled”, then I’d ask San Diego how they feel about their QB.
Its the sexy pick
but Suh will be a dominant player in this league and Bradford has alot of ? marks

2009 Best Regular Season Record in NYPPL.
2010 The Jim Mandich NewsFlash Award Winner.
Rams need a young franchise QB
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
Simply put
I would rather have Suh. Just not confident in Bradfords talents translating to the pro-style offense. Not as much as Suhs. I’m still holding out hope, though I’m getting lonely on this side of the aisle.
