2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 2

The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft is underway, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. Sean Yuille, lead blogger at SB Nation's Detroit Lions blog, Pride of Detroit, checks in to make the second overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the second overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Detroit Lions have selected Ndamukong Suh, defensive tackle, Nebraska.

Sean Yuille says: For the Detroit Lions - a team filled with holes on the roster even after a successful free agency period that included both signings and trades - it’s tough to go wrong with the second overall pick. There are various scenarios out there that fans would be pleased with, and one of them is Sam Bradford being picked first overall by the Rams. That allows Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh to be picked by the Lions, adding a dominant defensive tackle to a defensive line that suddenly isn’t too shabby at all.

The Lions have already added defensive tackle Corey Williams via a trade with the Browns and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch via free agency. Adding Suh would not only give Lions fans great faith in the defensive line, but it would be another step in overhauling the entire defense and continuing to add talent to the team.

Mocking Dan reacts: The addition of Suh would complete Detroit's revitalization of its defensive tackle rotation. He projects as an immediate star and will be a difference maker for Detroit. This is the obvious choice, and a good one.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Eric Berry/S/Tennessee, 2 - Gerald McCoy/DT/Oklahoma, 3 - Russell Okung/OT/Oklahoma State, 4 - Rolando McClain/MLB/Alabama, 5 - C.J. Spiller/RB/Clemson

Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of the Suh-to-Detroit pick? Please be sure to check out Pride of Detroit for all of your Lions needs.

My thoughts exactly

I was born in Buffalo, and NO, it's not a suburb of New York City

I like it.

If they’re content on letting Backus pave the way for DE’s to smack Stafford around for another year, sure..its a good pick.

Maybe planning on crossing those fingers that one of the top 6 OT’s fall to #34?

Still, Suh’s a great prospect and arguably the BPA.

Solid pick. Not sure it’d be the right one, but who am i?

I really like Okung, but I just don't know how the Lions can pass on Suh.

I think the Lions would take a trade out of the # 2 spot for a high price [ie. an early first rounder plus a second rounder and a fourth or 2011 third]. I just don’t see any team that would do that.

I can only see two different ways with this pick:

OT or DT. Okung or Suh/McCoy.

My thought is that between Okung, Bulaga, Williams, Davis, Brown and Campbell, at least one of them will be available for their next pick.

So it’s a toss-up between Suh and McCoy and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

I like the pick

but I also thought that Stafford looked promising last year and would hate to see his career cut short…I’d go LT here, probably Okung, but maybe the Lions like Campbell or Bulaga more.

Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl

great player

I think Okung to protect Stafford would be better though

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
