2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 8
The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft is underway, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. Raymond St. Martin, lead blogger at SB Nation's Oakland Raiders blog, Silver and Black Pride checks in to make the eighth overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!
With the eighth overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Oakland Raiders have selected Bryan Bulaga, offensive tackle, Iowa.
Raymond St. Martin says: Sorry, this blogger did not include a write-up with his pick!
Mocking Dan reacts: On paper, this pick makes a lot of sense. The Raiders have needed a left tackle for years and Bulaga is a tough blocker. He's solid in run and pass blocking and can have a nasty demeanor.
But in reality, this would be a stunning pick. You have to think Al Davis would be hesitant about taking another Iowa offensive tackle with arms of a less-than-ideal length. After all, Robert Gallery struggled so badly as a tackle for Oakland that he had to move inside to guard.
Also consider that Bulaga isn't as athletic as, say, Bruce Campbell. Even though there's nothing lamer than Al Davis jokes, they tend to ring true. That said, the reality may be that this pick could either be Campbell or defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - C.J. Spiller/RB/Clemson, 2 - Derrick Morgan/DE/Georgia Tech, 3 - Dez Bryant/WR/Oklahoma State, 4 - Joe Haden/CB/Florida, 5 - Earl Thomas/S/Texas
Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of the Bulaga selection? Please be sure to check out Silver and Black Pride for all of your Raiders needs.

Where's teh grade poll?
The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL
The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back
The 2009-10 New Jersey Devils: Allergic to second periods

JPP or Campbell might be what this pick actually will be
but Bulaga is the BA OT. So the pick makes sense.
Last year the Raiders had a no doubt about it
pick in Michael Crabtree & took DHB. This year, there is no such consensus because there is no way to know which way the Raiders are looking. Offensive Tackle may be the top priority and Bulaga may be the best one, but he just doesn’t seem like an AD pick.
The Raiders have also shown no interest in worrying about value picks either.

I bet Al Davis is totally pissed that Taylor Mays is gone

Wow logical but horrible in that this will never happen. I know why he made it though cause it is a good choice.

Does anyone think
that Al Davis will actually learn from the past and allow his FO to draft somewhat sensibly or do you think he’s still stuck in the 1890’s?

It still wouldn't shock me...
if he bypassed Campbell and JPP and chose that Ford guy from Clemson. With the 4.28 40.
It’s funny, it’s a joke, but the Raiders draft history through the 2000s have earned all the jokes people make.

I'll be stunned and upset if this happens...
I’ve had Bulaga locked in for the Bills pick for awhile.

Terrific, sensible pick...
and therefore wholly unlikely to happen.
This mock draft has been nothing if not entertaining. Al Davis choosing the BPA, while it’s the Seahawks who reach for some freakishly athletic bust-in-waiting? Completely fictional, but interesting nonetheless.
Even though there’s nothing lamer funnier than Al Davis jokes
