Tony Pike NFL Draft scouting report
Tony Pike
6'5, 223 pounds | Quarterback | Cincnnati
Strengths: Is tall with a lanky frame with plenty of room to add bulk. Has good pocket presence and is a good athlete to get out on the run. Does a nice job avoiding rushers. Possesses a strong enough arm and can complete any pass inside the hash marks. A tough player who has had to play through injuries.
Weaknesses: What's the most concerning about Pike is that he was always inconsistent completing passes near the sideline. He doesn't always put the best touch on the ball and will overthrow the receiver. Has had some trouble putting on weight. Needs to do a better job of making pre-snap reads and adjusting. Has somewhat of a windup delivery but he gets the ball out high.
Final word: Pike is yet another spread quarterback who took his snaps from the shotgun. He's more athletic than he's given credit but is by no means Vince Young. Would have been in Heisman Trophy contention had he not missed some time in 2009 due to injuries.
