George Selvie NFL Draft scouting report
George Selvie
6'4, 252 pounds | Defensive end | South Florida
Strengths: Pre-snap and at the snap, Selvie is as good as any defensive end in this year's draft. He's lightning fast off the line, partly because he anticipates the snap and because he has quick feet. He's a strong competitor who never gives up. Plays with a high motor. Doesn't overwork his lane and shows good patience. Gets his hands into the passing lane consistently.
Weaknesses: Selvie's lack of strength is what slowed his progress with the Bulls. He doesn't have the power to run through offensive linemen and can get blocked by running backs. Really struggles in the run game and doesn't disengage well. Even when he was getting big sack totals, Selvie never showed he had many pass rush moves. Agility and fluidity is space is questionable, which kills his chance of playing linebacker in a 3-4.
Final word: Following his sophomore season, everyone was quick to peg Selvie as a top 10 player. But he never got any better following that season and teams figured out that if you play physical against him he can be neutralized. His quickness is impressive, but he's got a ways to go to figure out how to be a 3-4 linebacker.
Because of that, and a lack of strength, he might only be a situational pass rusher at the next level.
