Jimmy Graham NFL Draft scouting report
Jimmy Graham
6'8, 260 pounds | Miami (Fla.) | Tight end
Strengths: The first thing you notice about Graham is his size. He's one of the tallest players in this year's draft and has a frame to add plenty of bulk. Is very light on his feet and moves around quickly for a player so large. Gets off the line really well and played out of a three-point stance. Has the functional playing strength to reach his arms out and avoid tacklers. Possesses plus agility for a tight end. Tracks the ball nicely when it's in the air.
Weaknesses: Is the ultimate project player in this year's draft after playing just one season of college football. First and foremost, his blocking technique is a mess. He's not physical when lined up with his hand down. He doesn't get good arm placement and can't sustain. Could stand to get stronger and be in the 270-pound range. Looks lost at times running routes. Doesn't always get tough when going over the middle and doesn't always extend his arms to make a tough catch. Does he mind getting hit? Will be hesitant after the catch.
Final word: Everyone knows Graham is a project, considering he's only played football for less than a year. But the converted basketball player is ultra athletic and has great size. He showed at the Senior Bowl and combine that he's a talent but inconsistent. His fate will be determined by if he's willing to work to overcome his inexperience-based deficiencies.
