Mock Draft 3.0

1. St. Louis Rams- QB- Sam Bradford- Oklahoma

- I have been convinced that Suh would be the pick but Bradford is gaining steam. The more and more consider this pick I feel that the Rams cannot pass up the opportunity to solidify the quarterback position. And as crazy as it sounds teams must consider the business aspect of football. A new franchise quarterback creates more excitement than a defensive tackle

2. Detroit Lions- DT- Ndamukong Suh- Nebraska

- The Lions get the best player in the draft at a position of major need. Suh will bring an immediate impact to an organization attempting to get back to respectability.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DT- Gerald McCoy- Oklahoma

- McCoy will be a disruptive force on a defense desperate for talent. There are a lot of people that feel McCoy is better than Suh, so in some eyes the Bucs will get the best player in the draft at pick 3. It may just be the Oklahoma ties but McCoy gives me the Tommie Harris vibe, as a player that is capable of getting in the backfield on every play.

4. Washington Redskins- T- Russell Okung- Oklahoma State

- The Redskins will give Jason Campbell one last shot and in the mean time solidify their offensive line.

5. Kansas City Chiefs- S- Eric Berry- Tennessee

- The Chiefs get a great playmaker in Berry. He fills a big void in the defensive backfield and will give the Chiefs a player to build their defense around.

6. Seattle Seahawks- DE- Jason Paul- Pierre- South Florida

- Paul- Pierre is a fast rising prospect with little experience but tons of athletic ability. Players like Paul- Pierre are tough for coaches and GMs to pass on because of their unlimited potential.

7. Cleveland Browns- RB- CJ Spiller- Clemson

- Spiller had a good combine and good production at Clemson. The Browns need offensive playmakers and Spiller’s pass catching ability is something that Holmgren covets.

8. Oakland Raiders- T- Bruce Campbell- Maryland

- Campbell was very impressive at the combine and has as much athletic ability as anyone in the draft. His potential will fire his rise up the draft boards. If the Raiders want JaMarcus Russell to be successful they need to protect him.

9. Buffalo Bills- QB- Jimmy Clausen- Notre Dame

- Just like the Rams the Bills need to solve the public relation issues in the Buffalo area. They need to get the fans excited and drafting a potential franchise quarterback is the best way to nurture excitement. The Bills have a need on the offensive line so players like Anthony Davis and Bryan Bulaga are possible. They might be tempted to select Dan Williams to help facilitate their switch to a 3-4 defense.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars- DE- Derrick Morgan- Georgia Tech

- Morgan has the pass rushing skills and the college production to help Jaguar fans forget about Derrick Harvey.

11. Denver Broncos (from CHI) - DT- Dan Williams- Tennessee

- Dan Williams is a hot name because of his ability to anchor the defensive line of 3-4 scheme. The Broncos need to find the replacement for Ronnie Fields and continue the development of their defense.

12. Miami Dolphins- LB- Rolando McClain- Alabama

- McClain’s decision to not participate at the combine didn’t hurt his stock but it didn’t help it either. McClain could have used the momentum of a great combine to crack the top ten. However, the Dolphins are ecstatic to add McClain to their linebacking corps.

13. San Francisco 49ers- CB- Joe Haden- Florida

- A poor 40 time has teams questioning Haden’s top-end speed and unfortunately for Joe this is an important piece to the draft puzzle. The 49ers get good value at a position of need and will benefit from Haden’s misery.

14. Seattle Seahawks (from DEN) - T- Anthony Davis- Rutgers

- Walter Jones’ retirement leaves a gaping hole on the Seattle offensive line. Davis has the potential to become a Pro Bowl tackle.

15. New York Giants- T- Bryan Bulaga- Iowa

- Kareem McKenzie is aging and injury prone and Bulaga adds depth and an option other than William Beatty. The Giants know how important a strong offensive line is, so drafting Bulaga will help now but also stabilize the future of the offensive line.

16. Tennessee Titans- DE- Everson Griffen- Southern California

- The Titans need pass rushing help and Griffen is a fast rising prospect that has good pass rushing skills. The injuries and potential loss of Vanden Bosch has made this position a priority.

17. San Francisco 49ers (from CAR) - T- Trent Williams- Oklahoma

- The 49ers need to fill the right tackle position and Williams might be the best right tackle in the draft. Williams had a good combine that have some rethinking his ability to play on both the left and right tackle positions.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers- G/T- Mike Iupati- Idaho

- The Steelers need help along the offensive line and Iupati’s run blocking ability is right up the Steelers alley.

19. Atlanta Falcons- CB- Devin McCourty- Rutgers

- Atlanta needs depth and talent at the cornerback position and McCourty is a perfect fit. McCourty had a good senior bowl and combine which has facilitated his rise on draft boards. McCourty has high character which is something that will be important to the Falcons.

20. Houston Texans- S- Earl Thomas- Texas

- The Texans need help in the defensive backfield. Some believe that Thomas can make the switch to the cornerback position but if not he provides another playmaker to this emerging defense.

21. Cincinnati Bengals- WR- Dez Bryant- Oklahoma State

- The Bengals need wide receiver help and Bryant is the best available in this draft. He slides to this position because of character questions and the fact he didn’t work out at the combine after missing over half of the college season.

22. New England Patriots- LB- Sergio Kindle- Texas

- I have had Kindle in this spot since day one and he stays. Abilities just fit the needs of the Patriots.

23. Green Bay Packers- C/G- Maurkice Pouncey- Florida

- Unfortunately for the Packers all the top tackles are off the board so they will have to settle for upgrading the other spots along the offensive line.

24. Philadelphia Eagles- S- Taylor Mays - Southern California

- The Eagles need a playmaking safety to fill the hole left by Dawkins. Mays solidified his draft position with an impressive combine performance.

25. Baltimore Ravens- WR- Golden Tate- Notre Dame

- Tate has skills and surprised a lot of people with his 40 time. Tate’s speed was in question and now that the question is answered his production at Notre Dame will stick out more.

26. Arizona Cardinals- LB/DE- Brandon Graham- Michigan

- Graham has benefited from the draft process and will provide the Cardinals with a pass rushing presence.

27. Dallas Cowboys- CB- Kyle Wilson- Boise State

- You could never have enough depth at the cornerback position. Wilson is a good corner that has slipped a few spots by not working out at the combine.

28. San Diego Chargers- RB- Ryan Matthews- Fresno State

- Both Sproles and Tomlinson are gone and the Chargers need to fill that void. Ryan Matthews can carry the load and provide an immediate impact.

29. New York Jets- WR- Arreloius Benn- Illinois

- Mark Sanchez needs weapons and Benn could provide him with a solid option.

30. Minnesota Vikings- DT- Brian Price- UCLA

- The Vikings are in a place to take the best player and Price is that player. He also provides insurance in case the Williams Wall is suspended.

31. Indianapolis Colts- LB- Sean Witherspoon- Missouri

- If Gary Brackett moves on they will need a replacement. Even if Bracket is retained they could use a playmaking linebacker like Witherspoon.

32. New Orleans Saints- DE- Carlos Dunlap- Florida

- New Orleans needs to generate a better pass rush from its front four and Dunlap has unlimited potential. He slips to the end of this round because of character issues.

37. Redskins- T- Charles Brown- USC

38. Browns- TE- Jermaine Gresham- Okla.

39. Raiders- DE- Corey Wooten- NW

suh is being set up to fail by all his hype… and suh has very bad knees

by det32 on Mar 4, 2010 11:26 AM EST reply actions

Just like Lebron

Too much hype – destined to fail.

by Naptime! on Mar 4, 2010 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

hahaha

Very good point. The number of great players in sports that have terrible knees is an absolute joke.

Giants

Would take N Allen or M Burnett in the second round as the S need is greater than the LB need.

I do like the first round pick – he will start at RT if that happens. Diehl moves to LG and Beatty plays LT.

by G Fan in England on Mar 4, 2010 11:32 AM EST reply actions

agree.

good man tj, about time someone got a clue and gave the Giants an OT. Not a set in stone pick, but a possibility. Really like Bulaga. Maybe he’s not a LT..but I think he could play RT at an All-Pro level (something the Giants value..they signed Kareem McKenzie for $37 million one year to play RT).

Don’t like Brandon Spikes at all..but I suppose that A) he’s a good value in the 2nd and that B) safety would be a lock in the 3rd round.

It was me that started the OT for the Giants bandwagon just as you started the Morgan for the Giants bandwagon.

by G Fan in England on Mar 4, 2010 12:26 PM EST up reply actions

I'll give you credit for it then.

I wasn’t really beating the drum for it…but as with CJ Spiller, Earl Thomas (and no to Brandon Spikes and Sergio Kindle…) but it was always in there for me.

and yes, Nate Allen or Morgan Burnett or CHad Jones (who’s inexplicably absent from the 1st 2 rounds?? …no he didn’t kill himself at the combine).

I’d rathe go Nate Allen/Burnett in round 2.

Jamar Chaney in round 3 (used to be my MLB sleeper…I don’t think he’s sleeping anymore after blowing up the combine)

I did not

check to see if Chad Jones had been taken – I just looked at who was picked after the Giants 2nd pick.

by G Fan in England on Mar 4, 2010 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

Perfect for Broncos

I have been advocating Dan Williams since before the Senior Bowl. And I love Odrick too, but I’m not sure he’ll fall that far

seahawks go QB

I can’t see us passing on Clausen. At least i hope we don’t.

by Hancock.Brett on Mar 4, 2010 12:39 PM EST reply actions

I would be livid.

As a Seahawk fan i’ve wanted a new QB for at least 4 years and if we pass on one this year would just be unspeakable. We have 2 first round picks we need to take a QB with one of them, Pierre-Paul will be there at 16 so get him then.

……Although if they pick up Tebow at 40 i would literally cry with happiness….Then buy his jersey and move to Seattle hahaha.

by gatorempire127 on Mar 4, 2010 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

To pick a DE because he looks good in shorts. What has happened to people. JPP had six sacks in Division 1 football. He didn’t even start when healthy the first 3 games this year.

And yes, he is a lot like Adam Gaines. Tampa and Chicago can tell you he would have made a great backup.

And then we follow it up with the stellar Davis pick. The guy who could barley out lift the corners. No thanks.

Clausen please.

It is what it is...

The Colts will Never take a LB in the first round. Ever.

Pick #28 2000 draft…. i know its awhile ago but it has happened.

Jon Dove

before the Tampa-2 was installed by Dungy in 02

since then they haven’t drafted a LB in the top 90

I don’t think it’s impossible but I can’t imagine them passing on Charles Brown. LT is a major major need. Charlie Johnson does not belong at LT.

by shake n bake on Mar 4, 2010 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed...

if Charles Brown is on the board at 31…I expect him to be a Colt!

Bob Sanders is starting to make me rethink my SBNation ID!

by SupermanWearsBobSander'sPJs on Mar 5, 2010 10:03 AM EST up reply actions

I love Kyle Wilson, but I seriously doubt Dallas goes CB in the 1rst.

Still I think Wilson and Burnett would be a great addition to an already solid defense. Would definitely need to grab someone like John Jerry in the 3rd and a WR in the 4th.

by Flounder69 on Mar 4, 2010 12:52 PM EST reply actions

After the combine performance Dunlap is NOT going in the first round

by The Licensed Pessimist on Mar 4, 2010 1:28 PM EST reply actions

Good for the Pats

But they would never pass on Jared Odrick at #44. That is a perfect value selection and he can be the Seymour replacement that is (arguably) as much of a need as a pass rush.

by BigRedDog42 on Mar 4, 2010 1:29 PM EST reply actions

If the Eagles sign Peppers then I think with the way your mock goes oyu have it right and we would take Mays, if we don’t then I think we would take Brandon Graham. Also in the 2nd round I wouldn’t be surprised if they took Washington over Bowman.

by The Legend on Mar 4, 2010 1:40 PM EST reply actions

Please!!

Let the Eagles sign Peppers and take Mays.

Would make this Giants fan very happy :)

If the browns take spiller there I will shoot myself in the foot (literally). they already have a speed back with good hands. his name is jerome harrison. I highly doubt heckert will take a RB that high especially with much larger needs on the team. if berry isn’t there, and they don’t like haden, they are trading down…mark my words.

Oh. forgot to also mention how I highly doubt the browns take a TE in the 2nd round. yeah, gresham is a good buy there but what about a CB or safety…these are much larger needs.

Trent Williams

As a 49ers fan, I would love to see him dominating on the right side for the next ten years or so, but if I’m not mistaken Williams was pretty adamant this week that he’s a left tackle, not a right tackle. I’m sure that ten minutes locked in a room with Coach Singletary would make him see the light, but is that a chance you really want to take with a first round pick?

by BSU_Alum07 on Mar 4, 2010 4:48 PM EST reply actions

I'm pretty sure that Sam Bradford

would beg to disagree with Williams on this one.

by ninjasocks on Mar 4, 2010 11:14 PM EST up reply actions

Williams

He only said he’s a better fit at LT in an attempt to make more money (increase draft posiiton)

Here's hoping 2010 is the end of our drought.

by FearTheTree on Mar 5, 2010 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

You got a couple of mispellings but overall it is a pretty good mock.

by Yankees10 on Mar 4, 2010 6:05 PM EST reply actions

With Earl Thomas on the board

Iupati isn’t the BPA. Safety is too big a need and he is too good a player for us to let him slip by. And as much as I like McCluster that is just not a good pick for a guy who isn’t going to be able to contribute full time. We’d take Cam Thomas

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

by Steel in FL on Mar 4, 2010 7:21 PM EST reply actions

Touch and go

You and I will no doubt continue to argue on this one all the way up to the draft, but with the deep class of safety, and the Steelers need for internal line help, I think Iupati is the best choice. I’d much prefer Iupati+Burnett/Jones than Thomas+… I agree that McLuster doesn’t go Steelers, although it would be an interesting pick

by mojo88 on Mar 5, 2010 2:30 AM EST up reply actions

Earl thomas

I like Thomas, but I am not sure if the steelers will go in that direction, they could. Agreed Running back would be very unlikely in the 1st or 2nd round. Cam Thomas maybe if he drops to them in the 3d round. I am leaning towards the steelers thinking defense in the first 2 rounds though unless a really good OT falls in their lap.

The more I learn -The less I think I know! Just enjoy reading and sharing.

by steeler junky on Mar 5, 2010 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not exactly sold on kindle.

I’d rather have Ricky Sapp or Brandon Graham.

by patriotguy on Mar 4, 2010 7:23 PM EST reply actions

Nice.

Beefing up with Williams and Odrick up front on defense is certainly interesting…
