Oakland Raiders team needs

The Oakland Raiders and Al Davis have become the butt of many NFL draft related jokes. Davis’s need for speed has lead to several questionable decisions. It seems as though JaMarcus Russell will get yet another shot, but does he deserve it?

1. Offensive Tackle

- Whoever is the starting quarterback needs to be protected and given time in the pocket, which is something the Raiders continue to struggle with. Mario Henderson and Cornell Green need to be replaced and depth is needed. At the #8 pick players like Anthony Davis, Trent Williams, Bryan Bulaga, and Bruce Campbell might be available. It should be noted that Bruce Campbell has had a very impressive combine which is something that weighs heavily with Al Davis.

2. Safety

- Michael Huff has not lived up to his high draft pick status and while Tyvon Branch looks promising, more talent is needed. Look for the Raiders to address this position in the later rounds.

3. Quarterback

- Regardless of what Al Davis thinks JaMarcus Russell has proved he is not a starting NFL quarterback. He has a lot of skills but how long will the Raiders wait for him to grow up? Bruce Gradkowski is a gutsy player but not the most talented. Maybe someone like Colt McCoy, Tony Pike, or Dan Lefevour in the later rounds.

I know everyone has given up on him but I think Russell can still succeed in this league he is just stuck in a bad situation. It seemed like whenever I watched the Raiders last year they didn’t even try to help out Russell like they did Gradkowski now I am not sure if it is because Russell is a bad teammate or something but it seemed like everybody played harder with Gradkowski in there.

Safety

Is not a position of need. Huff actually played well last year, Branch is solid, and they have a 2nd round pick from last year, Mike Mitchell, there too. Positions like DT and MLB and even a second corner behind Nnamdi are much more pressing needs.

Yeah I agree they dont need a safety. Branch is a good tackler and although Mitchell was way overdrafted he still was a second round pick that they hope can start.

Raiders team needs?

How about some football players?

by medicineball on Mar 6, 2010 4:18 PM EST reply actions

yeah I had a similar reaction

I assumed the story after the headline would have been much simpler:

Oakland Raiders team needs

Yes.

How can you not love a team that does this?

#2 is safety?

What year are we looking at here? We need OT, LBs (all spots), DL (a NT, a DT and a DE), and another stud CB. Safety? Really the second most pressing concern? I am not sure I have heard another person say the same thing.

I say DT (Suh) or OT, take your pick of 2 or G Lupata (or however you spell his name) OR maybe McClain as a stud MLB since it looks like Al has Morrison in the doghouse ready to set him free after offering him a 3rd tender (WTF???)

defense

when was the last time we stopped the run??? if seattle, washington, clevland and maybe the rams decide to take a qb, then we have a great chance at a good dt or lb! we can get an o lineman in the 2nd and 3rd with a cb and rb in the 4thand 5th rounds.

"DB" in the works a@ #8

But NOT a “S”…Haden at “CB” will most likely be the selection….

You have to remember…Al wants the very best player at any position on the board…Not the 2nd or 3rd best so if the “DT” or “OT” is already off the board we will draft the best “DE” or “CB” whichever has the most talent in Al’s eyes…

Haden is a M-to-M cover freak and strong against the run…A hitter with speed who loves to get physical and has good hands…Across from Nnamdi he will be able to do some damage and be backed up by a young speed “S” like M&M…Suddenly we start to look like a shut down backfield again…
