The Latest Mock From Me

New to Mocking the Draft, not new to SB Nation. Here we go...

Star-divide

1. Rams-Ndamukong Suh, DT. As much as the Rams need a QB, Suh is too difficult to pass up here. Quarterbacks in this draft (mostly mobile quarterbacks) can be found in the later rounds, which St. Louis needs with the patchwork o-line.

2. Lions-Gerald McCoy, DT. Lions solidfy their defense with the second best DT in the class. Pressure makes the secondary better, and pressure from McCoy, Corey Williams, KVB, and Avril/White/whoever make Delmas' life and the rest of the secondary's lives much easier.

3. Buccaneers-Dez Bryant, WR. As crazy as this seems, Tampa Bay needs weapons. They have Winslow and Stroughter for Josh Freeman. The NFL is passball, and Bryant helps Freeman develop even further.

4. Redskins-Russell Okung, OT. Jason Campbell needs protection. Okung is a worthy left tackle, and one that should keep him upright.

5. Chiefs-Eric Berry, FS. The Chiefs will be delighted to have a playmaker like Berry fall to them. Page moves to SS, and Berry can play a Sharper/Reed/Polamalu-like role. Berry will help Flowers and Carr grow further.

6. Seahawks-Sam Bradford, QB. The Seahawks grab their future QB here. Nuff said.

7. Browns-Jimmy Clausen, QB. The Browns need multiple players, and they aren't sold on Brady Quinn. Clausen comes from a pro-style offense, and he has the ability to run the West Coast offense (combine is overrated...)

8. Raiders-Bruce Campbell, OT. ...except for Al Davis. Freakish athlete meets freakishly huge need. Whoever starts at QB will likely have an easier time with this monster at the blindside.

9. Bills-Dan Willams, NT. Bills decided to switch to a 3-4, plus they need youth on their D-line. Williams gives them a very good nose tackle.

10. Jaguars-Derrick Morgan, DE. Jaguars will find it tough to pass up Clausen if he falls here, and they could very easily pick him. But, they need help on the D-line. Morgan is a solid end against the pass and the run, and that's what they need more.

11. Broncos-Rolando McClain, ILB. Broncos will stick with Orton, and boost their 3-4 defense.

12. Dolphins-Earl Thomas, FS. No Gibril Wilson, unsure about Clemons, signed Dansby; Thomas solidifies the back of the secondary.

13. 49ers-Joe Haden, CB. Wow. Niners get a good corner at a cheaper price. Clements and Haden gives them a solid corner duo.

14. Seahawks-Anthony Davis, OT. Future QB and LT in one draft. Score!

15. Giants-Jason Pierre-Paul, DE. A riser from the combine, the Giants have enough resources to gamble on this speed demon.

16. Titans-Kyle Wilson, CB. Finnegan+Wilson+Hope+Griffin=improved secondary. Wilson brings return value too.

17. 49ers-Trent Williams, OT. A RT to boost the o-line and pair with Joe Staley.

18. Steelers-Mike Iupati, OG. A nasty lineman who would be a very good guard for the Steelers in need of tough linemen.

19. Falcons-Carlos Dunlap, DE. Dunta Robinson solidifies corner, meaning Atlanta can grab a DE. Dunlap is a boom-bust prospect, but the Falcons have enough resources to pull the trigger.

20. Texans-Ryan Matthews, RB. From Mocking the Draft: "Mathews impressed at the combine running a 4.45 at a solid 218lbs. He'd be a nice compliment to the smaller Slaton."

21. Bengals-Jermaine Gresham, TE. Gresham is a field-stretcher at TE. Cincy needs weapons for Carson Palmer. Good match.

22. Patriots-Brandon Graham, OLB. Add Graham to Tully Banta-Cain and New England gets two pass-rushers. Good value pick.

23. Packers-Bryan Bulaga, OT. While I'm surprised by the Chad Clifton resigning, they still need to think about the future. Thompson loves building through the draft.

24. Eagles-Sean Weatherspoon, OLB. From Mocking the Draft: "After giving Will Witherspoon the boot, Weatherspoon would be a great addition at that WILL spot."

25. Ravens-Patrick Robinson, CB. The addition of Boldin means they can focus on CB. Robinson is the third-best after Haden and Wilson.

26. Cardinals-C.J. Spiller, HB. With Boldin gone, the Cardinals could use somebody to help Matt Leinart and take pressure off Fitzgerald. Spiller aids the transition to a run-based offense.

27. Cowboys-Taylor Mays, SS. Surprise! The Cowboys need an athlete in the secondary, and the o-linemen on their board are gone at this point.

28. Chargers-Devin McCourty, CB. Chargers need a CB. McCourty is the best one available. Nuff said.

29. Jets-Charles Brown, OT. Woody is getting old, and the Jets need to start thinking about the future.

30. Vikings-Brian Price, DT. Helps build up the interior of the Vikings line and adds insurance.

31. Colts-Maurkice Pouncey, C/G. The cutting of Ryan Lilja means they need a new starter. Pouncey is bigger and brings better run-blocking.

32. Saints-Everson Griffen, DE. No Grant means need at defensive end. Griffen fills the need.

The end!

Umm...

No CJ Spiller in the first round?

cool

Cowboys take him instead of Mays

by Dr. Cowboy on Mar 6, 2010 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

Dez Bryant at number 3? Whoa.

I also think the Bills will take either Davis or Bulaga at 9 if both QBs are gone. You forgot about Spiller too.

The rest is pretty good.

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

and he has the ability to run the West Coast offense (combine is overrated…)

He didn’t throw in the combine. Plus I don’t think CLE will give up on Quinn yet.

Clausen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bradford

your so off

Bradford is going to be the best QB to come o0ut in the last 2 years

Considering Pete Carroll went after Clausen

to play at USC it seems plausable he would take Clausen over Bradford.

by hadrarius on Mar 6, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

Bradford is soft mentally and physically

And he played in a spread offense where he was never under center. And he had literally 4-5 seconds to throw the football. And he had way more talent than any other team. Whenever he a) felt any pressure at all OR b) played against teams with equal talent (Texas, Florida) he completely failed.

But hey, keep drinking the Kool-Aid man.

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

by axel360 on Mar 6, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

Nobody's drinking Kool-Aid

Both QBs have their supporters and solid arguments could be made for either. Predicting QB success in the NFL is incredibly difficult and the question of who’s going to be better won’t be answered for another 3-5 years. For all we know, Tebow, LeFevour or Canfield may turn out better than both.

agree that clausen is better

Rumors are Holmgren's looking at a lot of QBs.

David Carr, Seneca Wallace are two names I’ve seen. Seems Anderson is on his way out. I wouldn’t put it past them to draft a QB 1st round, even if he does start the season behind Quinn.

by hadrarius on Mar 6, 2010 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

Sean Weatherspoon to Eagles and Cardinals?

Interesting mock. Different from a lot of others out there. Thinking Brandon Spikes for a Dansby replacement if Rolando McClain is gone. Dansby = ILB.

Whoa

Missed that. Thanks. I’ll fix that now.

I don't think the Jaguars will find it difficult to pass on Clausen

Seeing as he was drafted at 7th.

It will definitely be a tough decision

They do need a QB of the future but he was already drafted.

by axel360 on Mar 6, 2010 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

That was part of the first draft, when I had Sean Weatherspoon drafted twice and Haden going to the Browns. Thanks for the catch, I’ll fix that too. (Insert flood of “proofread, idiot!” comments).

Don’t like JPP at all, that’s a huge reach around at #15.

If the Giants are going with an athletic project…I’d rather get Trent Williams to be their future RT.

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 6, 2010 5:07 PM EST reply actions

I’d even warm up to Sean Weatherspoon.

CJ Spiller would be choice too.

…or basically anyone aside from Pierre Paul or Taylor Mays….

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 6, 2010 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

As much as I think Jason Pierre Paul will be a total bust

at 15, it is actually the OPPOSITE of a “reach”.

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

by axel360 on Mar 6, 2010 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

He’s hardly the best player available..and definitely not a need.

And if you see him as a 20-25 range player…considering he’s not a need or BPA…yes, that’s a reach.

I agree

There’s some stud pass rushers on the board their that I cant see the fish passing on for Thomas.

by AirNorval on Mar 6, 2010 11:41 PM EST up reply actions

Hard to be upset with a mock that quoted me twice

but for Indy I’d want Griffen and even Spiller (yes I’d take a 3rd 1st round RB, Spiller is that good of value and the Colts return game is that bad) over Odrick. Odrick is on my list of 1st round candidates for Indy, but it’s almost at the end of it, since he’s so similar to what they got last year in Fili Moala.

by shake n bake on Mar 6, 2010 8:26 PM EST reply actions

I was thinking maybe the Colts could land a top tier safety at #31 overall. Most mocks might have the safeties a little overvalued imo.

by AirNorval on Mar 6, 2010 11:38 PM EST up reply actions

Bethea and Bullitt have pretty high tenders, they'll be back

I don’t see safety unless someone overpays for one of them, or there’s a crazy value like Berry/Thomas drops.

by shake n bake on Mar 6, 2010 11:51 PM EST up reply actions

I dont like Cincis pick

Gresham at 21 seems like a huge reach.

And as much would prefer the Chargers to draft some different, Devin McCourty is a solid selection at 28 regardless of position.

Great job btw

by AirNorval on Mar 6, 2010 11:35 PM EST reply actions

Griffen may not be a lock first rounder (high second).

But if Brian Price actually doesn’t go in the 1st round…..they should probably scold each and every GM and do a re-draft.

He’s not slipping out of the first

so in the next version you can give us someone else :)

This mock is fluid. It changes, but the comments don’t. Besides, adding depth doesn’t hurt :)

It certainly doesn't hurt

Just give us the BAP and we’ll probably be happy with it.

Dalals will not draft Taylor Mays

He is a faster version of Roy Williams. Dallas would most likely trade back, but in your world would much rather have Maurkice Pouncey.
