Rock out with your mock draft out: Sam Farmer
This is hard. I really like Sam Farmer, the NFL writer for the Los Angeles Times. For a newspaper, he's as good as it comes as an NFL writer. He doesn't do it for ESPN or SI, but he could. Farmer is good. He is a dying breed.
But his mock draft is pretty awful. This is free content, so make sure to check it out.
As a Browns fan, he lost me immediately. He projects Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson to be Cleveland's selection. This is a classic case of overvaluing the NFL Scouting Combine.
"The Browns need a right corner, and Florida's Joe Haden is a popular projection here," Farmer writes. "But Haden was slow at the combine, and Wilson is coming on strong."
Fair enough, but that's still a huge stretch. It's interesting in Farmer's mock to see Dez Bryant as the third wide receiver taken. Sure, Bryant has issues. But if there's one position where that can be acceptable enough, it's wide receiver. Further, he has the Cardinals taking Bryant with pick 26.
Although Arizona just lost Anquan Boldin, adding a first-round wide receiver doesn't make much sense. Early Doucet and Steve Breaston should adequately replace Boldin. Further, the Cardinals need so much more – particularly on defense.
The other big shock is seeing Toby Gerhart being pushed into the first round with San Diego's pick. Farmer's reasoning is sound – that San Diego needs a strong runner – but Gerhart should be available later in the draft.
Still, it's hard to hate on Farmer's mock too much. It's mostly because he's such a good writer. And mocks are kind of silly anyway. But check it out.

Wow
He has the Giants taking Golden Tate.
Given the Giants have Smith who had 100 catches, Manningham and Nicks had solid seasons in effect their first year and Barden waiting to get on the field WR is the last position the Giants will pick in round 1.
How much does he get paid to write such dribble…?

I refreshed my browser a few times to see if it was a loading issue.

LMAO
That’s pretty good Bradshaw. No way in hell do the Cardinals take Dez Bryant with his character concerns. Farmer obviously was not “healthy” when he put together his Mock Draft. Has to be a physical issue or his Editor was unavailable.
Niners taking
Bulaga and Spiller. Yes please.
I think Bulaga will probably go sooner than that, but if he’s gone hopefully it’s Williams.
Don't like Odrick over Price at all
but that’s obviously down the list of complaints
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Jags
Just picked up Kampman, so we don’t have to force a defensive end in the first. I think we are more likely to select a linebacker or safety.

Haden to Pittsburgh?
Love it!
While we are visiting imagination-land, lets hope Dan Williams falls to them in the second.
lol
patrick robinson in the first?

Another bad mock
You know who also has a bad mock and poor rankings. Russ Lande his mock drafts are terrible and he has guys considered my most 6th rounders or later going in the second and guys that are no better than third or fourth rounders going in the first or second.
Really Not THAT Terrible...
I actually think that, if you replaced his big board with the general concensus, then there would only be a couple of “bad” picks left…

agree..its really not THAT bad.
Tho, the Browns, Giants and Cardinals picks really are THAT bad.
He has no idea who Kyle Wilson is. A 5"10 195lbs CB who’s really not an elite athlete (tho a very good prospect) is not going #7 overall. The Browns may need a CB, but they can get a similar player in the 2nd if they want a CB
He has no idea who’s on the Giants or Cardinals either to give them WR. Those picks are so bad that the whole mock from #15 on is just irrelevant anyway.
The Toby Gerhart pick is actually on I like tho. I think Toby really helped himself at the combine and his college numbers were ridiculous. He’s got an outside shot at it

He says:
Seattle has a lot of needs, but should be able to address several with three picks in the first 37.
Our 2nd round is Pick #40.
Also, Anthony Davis with the 14th makes no sense
Considering we’re a ZBS with Alex Gibbs. Charles Brown or to a much lesser degree Bruce Campbell is much more likely.
...Wow, the first 6 picks were flawless.
Then I’m assuming he took another hit of the bong because the rest of the mock was awful.

When Kyle Wilson went 7th overall, I stopped looking, especially when i glanced and seen Bey Bey Thomas 11th.
I don’t think that Carrol will take Berry, nor do I see the Redskins passing Okung up. This mock is meh in the first 6 picks as well as the whole round.
Equation= 1,2,2,3,3 is a lot better than 1,1,2,3 in a deep draft, especially when your 1 nets you E berry.
Alex Smith is not a bust, he is a product of poor management and coaching.
