Mock V2

Tried not to let the Combine affect me too much, and also took into account some FA moves. O, and all mockers please read wat I say for Denver Thank you.

Star-divide

1. St. Louis: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma: At this point, there is no way they don’t QB. Personally, I think this is the wrong choice. I say go BPA here with either DT as they are both almost sure things, but they do have to give their fans some hope for the future, and Bradford’s it.

2. Detroit: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska (6-4, 302): Pretty easy choice here. Suh is above and beyond the better DT in my eyes. I feel he will be a dominant force, and not just a penetrator. This guy can solidify a DL for years.

3. Tampa: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma (6-4, 298): Huge need and BPA? Talk about a homerun.

4: Washington: Russell Okung, OT, OK State (6-5, 302): As a Broncos fan, I know Shanny will want to protect any QB, and Shanny is known for making sure he has an LT to anchor his line ie: Lepsis to Clady. If I know Shanny, I think he’ll giv Campbell this year and then if he fails draft a QB.

5: Kansas City: Rolando McClain, ILB, Bama (6-4, 256) KC goes D cuz they need help bad here. People say OT, but they just drafted one 2 years ago, i say giv Albert his 3rd year to prove himself, as he showed he can be pretty good. McClain was made for the 3-4, and I think he'll do very well there

6: Seattle: Jimmy Clausen, QB, ND: Plain and simple: Hasselback= done and new QB is needed. Plus, Clausen and Carrol are very familiar with eachother as they played one another every year.

7: Cleveland: Eric Berry, S/CB, Tennesse: Cleveland takes the best DB in the draft. Can play any position in the secondary, so his versatility along with his playmaking ability makes him a homerun at 7.

8: Oakland: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland: You feel bad for the guy, knowing he is going to be over drafted and not pan out as one would expect from the 8th pick. I don’t even need to explain this pick.

9: Buffalo: Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa: Probably the safest OT prospect in the draft. I don’t expect him to be a great LT ie: Clady, Oher, Joe Thomas etc. But I can see him being a solid LT for years.

10: Jacksonville: Joe Haden, CB, Florida: BPA is the way the new path Gene Smith is bringing in. Haden is easily the best player here even after a so-so combine, makin him an absolute steal here.

11: Denver: Dan Williams, NT, Tennesse: A big NT the Broncos could use at the point of attack. Ronald Fields didnt do bad in his first year, but he is too small (317, yea real small) for the position, and might be better as a 5 tech or a rotational guy. They might pick Dez if BMarsh is traded, but since I'm not showing trades on my mock, I wont show this pick. I recommend all mockers read my previous sentence. Again: IF YOUR NOT SHOWING TRADES, DON’T SHOW DEZ BEING DRAFTED BY THE BRONCOS.

12: Miami: Dez Bryant, WR, OK State (6-2, 220): People say Parcells doesnt like drafting WR's in the first round, but if he wants Henne to continue to grow as a QB, he'll giv him this playmaker.

13: San Fransisco: Trent Williams, OT, OK: I feel he’s overrated, but heck, he would help the run game at RT at the very worst.

14: Seattle: Derrick Morgan, DE, Ga tech: Need an edge rusher, and this is the best one in the draft. To me this is  agood fit for both team and player.

15: New York Giants: Brian Price, DT, UCLA: The DE’s in this D can stand not being upgraded, but DT is the biggest need here. I had Earl Thomas last time, but now with Rolle that would be pointless. Price is a guy flying under the radar, but I think he’ll be taken top 20.

16: San Fransisco: Jahvid Best, RB, Cal (5-10, 195): I know 9ers fans will kill me for this, but I think he is faster than Spiller, and I see this team like the 07-08 Titans, who are just a Chris Johnson away from a great season. Best played against the Pac-10, and Spiller played against the ACC, and Spiller has been inconsistent. I say go Best here to complement Gore.

17: Tennesse: Everson Griffen, DE, USC: Might be a reach here, but he is a big bodied athletic edge rusher, and should also help against the run. Best DE here and the need one after losing KVB.

18: Pittsburgh: Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St: Solid CB who fits a need. Would probably prefer Dan Williams, but since he has had a great offseason and is rising on everybody’s draft boards, don’t expect him here.

19: Atlanta: Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho: Best G in the draft, and if you ask me, top 5 best overall. Will clear paths for RB’s for years.

20: Houston: Jonathon Dwyer, RB, Ga Tech: The need for a workhorse back is too immense to pass this guy up. Possibly McCourty to fill a need but I think this pick could put the Texans O on a whole new level.

21: Cincy: Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida (6-2, 250) TE is definitly a need here, unless the Bengals trade for a TE, and I'm hopin its Scheffler, hes good but he's not needed on the Broncos anymore.

22:New England: Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas: Pass rush is defintily needed, and Sergio can provide that. Maybe Spiller here, but I think Kindle would help more.

23: Green Bay: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson (5-11, 195): Perfect compliment to Grant, and could giv Rodgers a nice target out of the backfield.

24: Philadelphia: Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan: This team is a pass rusher away from being the best team in the league, IMO. And I think this guy fits the bill, although I think he may be better suited in a 3-4

25: Baltimore Ravens: Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers: Need here, and this guys good. After the Boldin trade, this is the only glaring hole on the roster.

26: Arizona: Ricky Sapp, OLB, Clemson (6-4, 248): Not too high on Clemson pass rushers, but this is a need for AZ and this would be good value here.

27: Cowboys: John Jerry, OG/OT, Ole Miss (6-6, 332): typical Cowboys OLmen, big and nasty.

28: San Diego: Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State: No choice but to go this route. I think this is a bigger need than NT because the NT rotation they had after Williams went down did OK, and the Chargers rushing game sucked all year and now they lost there only workhorse back

29: New York Jets: Jared Odrick, DE/DT, Penn St (6-5, 301): with questions on the DL, and a great 5 tech DE like Jared, this pick is a no brainer, if he falls here

30: Minnesota: Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida: Starter from Day one till end of his career. Can play any of the interior OL positions, and even has some OT experience

31: Indianapolis: Sean Witherspoon, LB, Mizz: Colts could use a playmaker LB, but of course, they always do, but Polian never takes one. Doesn’t have to start in first year and has many solid vets around that could help show him the ropes.

32: New Orleans: Jason-Pierre-Paul, DE, USF: Physical freak, but definitly a project. I see Saints developing him for a year or two and in the mean time use him as a situational rusher. They can risk this pick a little, as I think they are set at a lot of positions. Maybe they could take Burrnett from GA Tech or Chad Jones from LSU to replace Sharper if he isn’t resigned, but I think a dominant pass rusher would be better for the long run.

Unlike some Colts fans I don't think Weatherspoon is out of the question

but I’d take Charles Brown over him in a heartbeat. Brown would be instant impact at a cornerstone position. Weatherspoon would be either waiting for years to take a value position or playing at one that the Colts don’t put much value on.

Good Mock

U r right in how if the draft were today that the Broncos wouldnt selct Bryant but most people(myself included) r believing marshall will be gone so that would be the most logical choice. When you think about it, if denver dosent let marshall leave it can change the entire outlook on the draft for a lot of teams because denver would have 2 of the top 11 picks.

by David7 on Mar 8, 2010 1:27 AM EST reply actions

I agree there's a great chance Marshall's gone

But if he is we will hav a first round pick where we could select Dez.

by DBroncs1414 on Mar 8, 2010 1:36 AM EST up reply actions

Depends who you ask

Wes Bunting from the NFP has him as a top 30 prospect, and I agree. He is huge, immensly strong, and he fits the mold of a typical Cowboys OL. And I said Jerry to because he can play OT if needed, and Pouncey rly cant

by DBroncs1414 on Mar 8, 2010 1:48 AM EST up reply actions

HOnestly I think Jerry is better

After watching 3 days of Senior Bowl practice he was far and away the best OL on the South squad. He is much more physical than Pouncey and can also play RT.

I actually like Jerry more than Iupati

Jerry seems to be a better pass protector as a guard.

Good Question

Not too much of a fan of him, and if you noticed as well, the only safety i put was berry, and there’s a reason for that. Safety’s are rarely drafted high, and this year I feel will be no different.

Plus, I also think he can really only translate in the NFL as a CB, due to his lack of size. Drafting a college safety as a CB is not a good idea in the first, and I dont see many teams taking that risk

by DBroncs1414 on Mar 8, 2010 2:09 AM EST up reply actions

Dont think so

Quality safeties are usually had in the 2nd, and I dont see this year being different. There is some odd notion that Safeties will be drafted high this year, and I dont see why. Yes, it is a pretty good Safety year, but I still think were gonna see the usual suspects in the firsts except Berry

by DBroncs1414 on Mar 8, 2010 2:18 AM EST up reply actions

I agree.

I do not want Thomas. I think he will be a huge liability in the run game. That 208lbs at the Combine is weight he will not play with. He is a tweener CB/S.

So is Ed Reed.

Not even same discussion

Reed was killing people in college. Thomas is a pure speed finesse guy.

by Flounder69 on Mar 9, 2010 8:58 AM EST up reply actions

Philadelphia a DE short of being the best team in the league?

They aren’t even the best team in their division. They need a good amount of safety help, some health in the LB corps., and a more consistent QB before they even come close to that title.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Mar 8, 2010 1:53 AM EST reply actions

This is my line of thinking.

2nd year for the new O players to master the O. And on D, they would have two great pass rushers and Graham could also do very well against the run. I know ur cowboys fans but I’m jus sayin wat I believe

by DBroncs1414 on Mar 8, 2010 2:13 AM EST up reply actions

do we need more points?

Pretty sure we were the what 2nd or 3rd highest scoring team in the league last year? Dallas caught us with our Center down, which was huge. Yeah we need more help then just a DE but our offense for the majority of the year was not the problem. Our inconsistent QB has dropped so many points on Dallas in his career, that I am sure he’s not the sole blame of our woes last year.

DBronc a few questions.

I) I thought Dwyer was rated as a second round back at the earliest. What have you seen from him to convince you otherwise? What have you seen from Spiller to drop him to the thirs best back position?

2) At 21 you have Cincinatti taking TE Gresham. Didn’t they just draft Coffman last year? Are they already done with him?

3) At #16 you have SF taking RB Best. I thought there most pressing need would have been a safety, like Earl Thomas. Knowing that Singletary is a defensive minded coach, what made you decide that he would go this route?

by Talon Talent on Mar 8, 2010 11:31 AM EST up reply actions

Good questions

1: Dwyer i admit is a bit high, but I hav seen plenty of mocks where he goes to the Chargers in the first. To me, he is one of the few “every down backs” that could go early, and that’s why he is going so early. Plus his power combined with Slaton could proivide them the running game they need.

2: Correction i have Hernandez there. Yes they drafted Coffman, but that was I believe the 3rd round and he has shown no reason as to why they should bank on him for the future as he is coming off a bad injury

3: Yes he is a defensive minded coach, but I think its pretty blatant that the O needs work first. And as for safety, as I said before, quality safeties are usually had in the 2nd and the 3rd. And look at mine and Flounder’s comments above about earl thomas

by DBroncs1414 on Mar 8, 2010 1:02 PM EST up reply actions

Your center being down had nothing to do

with your receivers consistently being covered or missed by your QB when they were open. There were several times where those sacks that Donovan took were simply because he couldn’t find a target.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

I like Weatherspoon a lot

I’m kind of with Shake here though. But with Polian you never know. The one thing he’s done consistently is avoid early round LBs. But as far as BAP goes, ‘Spoon might be the guy. I have a hard time believing that, even with his slow 40, Charles Brown goes in the second. He showed up at the combine at 305. If he’s there, I’d really like him.

Cardinals

OLB doesn’t look like it will be a draft priority for the organization, especially if they sign Joey Porter, which seems very likely. They drafted Cody Brown and Will Davis last year. Brown missed the entire season with an injury. They have also picked up Stevie Baggs from the CFL where he was tied for the lead in sacks.

Don't they need a LT?

Or RT if they think Leinart is definitely the starter? Whichever, don’t they need a younger blindside protector? Also, they probably need safety depth now, right? I’m not a Cardinals fan, I’m just chiming in because they draft a few picks before my Colts, and I want to sift throgh their leftovers.

They'll take BPA (so they say)

which doesn’t rule out a pass rusher at all. I think Brandon Spikes or Sean Weatherspoon possibly. They need to bring in a young ILB. They filled the FS spot by trading for Kerry Rhodes. OT is another option but they have more pressing needs on defense. I don’t much follow college ball so I wouldn’t aspire to creating my own mock. I’m just not familiar enough with the individual players. That’s why I started checking out MTD in the first place.

Is anthony Davis missing from the first round?

I’m OK with Pouncy as a #30 pick but I would take Anthony Davis over him as a BPA. He plays guard, RT, and is seen as possibly a major LT in the league. For sure I want him over Pouncy. I also have Earl Thomas rated way better than 2nd round. Vikes can always use a top 15 player with the 30th pick. Weatherspoon is absolutely made for the Viking secondary. He is a cover LB that the Vikings need with their banged up LB corp. Many have Pouncy higher than I do but I can’t see him over the others I mentioned.

You have three RBs going in the first round. Its not impossible but since San Diego is paying 7 Million for Sproles I have a hard time believing they are using a 1st round pick for a RB.

Earl Thomas is a first rounder

And wouldn’t fall past us. Safety is our biggest need and if he is too small then Berry is too small since before the Combine Thomas was only about 6 pounds less than Berry.

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

by Steel in FL on Mar 8, 2010 10:10 PM EST reply actions

I believe that many think Thomas will be a Cornerback, not safety in the NFL.

I’m thinking the Steelers need a pure safety. Bet you can get a good one in the 2nd round.

Love the Eagles pick

I’m die hard birds fan and a huge fan of Graham. However, I think they need more than just one pass rusher to be considered the best team in the league. We need safety help, O-Line depth, LB depth, and most importantly you have to execute during the game. I love mcnabb but sometimes he is so frustrating. The grounds crew at the Linc don’t have to do much when mcnabb is busy air-rating the ground with his throws.
