First weekend of free agency greatly affecting draft
Free agency is just days old, but a handful of signings will greatly affect the first round and beyond. Here is a look at five teams and how their picks greatly change what they might do in the draft:
Baltimore: The Ravens no longer need a wide receiver after trading for Anquan Boldin and signing Donte Stallworth. Wide receiver was far and away Baltimore's biggest weakness. Now, it' can be perceived as a strength. The moves allow Baltimore to continue adding youth to its defense or maybe a pass-catching tight end. A cornerback or pass rusher might make sense now.
Jacksonvile: The Jaguars clearly needed a pass rusher and got a good one in Aaron Kampman. While the team may still want to add another pass rusher, it doesn't necessarily have to do so in the first round anymore. This could allow the Jaguars to look at a linebacker or safety.
Chicago: The Bears were a desperate team without a first or second round pick. The Bears adequately addressed their biggest needs by signing Julius Peppers, Chester Taylor and Brandon Manumaleuna. These moves allow the Bears to pick an offensive lineman in the third round, where there should be plenty of solid value.
Arizona: Even though the Cardinals lost Karlos Dansby, Antrel Rolle and Anquan Boldin, the team won't be alarmed. Kerry Rhodes should adequately replace Rolle. A combination of Early Doucet and Steve Breaston can match Boldin's production. There are rumors that Joey Porter could sign with Arizona to replace Dansby. While Porter might be a short-term solution, that would allow the Cardinals to take the best offensive tackle available with pick 26.
Miami: The players being projected to Miami this offseason have been pass rushers. By signing Karlos Dansby, the Dolphins may be able to afford going after a player like Dan Williams with the 12th pick. It's a reach, sure, but he would fill a huge need.

Giants
With the signing of Rolle do you see safety as a first or second round need for the Giants?
I see OT moving into the first two rounds for the Giants.

I see MLB if McClain falls
Which I really hope he does not! I do not want him on that defense.
dolphins
I think the dolphins need for Dan Willams is bigger now that Ferguson is suspended for a few games.
Jon Dove
Not so fast!
I’m hearing that the Fins are still considering Rolando McClain, regardless of the fact that they just signed Dansby. If they draft McClain, they will play him on the outside for next season. I really like that idea!

why does this sort of thing always need to be mentioned?
The best NFL safeties weren’t on the market.
Rolle was the best safety actually on the market that wasn’t a stopgap (Sharper) or one where they’d have to wait 7 days to hope and pray his team doesn’t match (Otogwe).
The Giants had a gaping hole at safety and didn’t want a stopgap (meaning they don’t have to go safety early on in the draft). They also needed an immediate option.

When
you had CC Brown and Rose as your safeties you are not in a position to knock someone down on the contact.
That said it is still less than 8 mil a year.

In the NFL, salaries are only going to go up each year. Rolle’s a good safety, and considering he played his first two years at CB instead of safety, it is quite probable that he should only improve. And if you look at what Fewell did with his safeties last year in Buffalo, I would expect some good things with Rolle in NY
I was born in Buffalo, and NO, it's not a suburb of New York City
As a Cowboys fan I am happy about this signing.
Rolle makes plays, but he also gives up big plays trying to always make the BIG play. He is not a willing tackler either, so good job Giants! He is a S version of Terrel Buckley. Feast or Famine.
Karlos Dansby is an Inside LB, right?
I don’t see how this changes the Dolphins need for someone to replace Porter and Taylor [soon]. I would expect them to draft a OLB/DE in the second round.
The first round pick may be between an NT [Dan Williams] and a WR [Dez Bryant]. Basically whoever Denver does not take just ahead of them.
Dansby will play inside

While I agree the Phins need WR help,
Tuna will never draft a WR in the first round.

We thought Tuna would never draft and OT and a CB in the first either

true
although its been since 1996 since he has selected a WR, and he’s only done so twice. (the other was mark ingram, 1987). db’s (not douchebags) have been drafted throughout his history. I was suprised when he picked davis last year though.
