2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Pick 51

The second round of the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls along. We're having each SB Nation blogger make selections for their respective teams. The SB Nation's Houston Texans blog, Battle Red Blog, checks in to make the No. 51 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away!

With the No. 51 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Houston Texans have selected Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama

BRB says: Having solved the long-standing issue of getting a real nose tackle at #20 with Dan Williams, this fake Texans draft now dares to go where traditional mocks think we will probably go in the first: cornerback.

It was a tough call in the war room, with a significant faction of BRB’s "braintrust" wanting to go with Dexter McCluster and add another playmaker to an already scary offense, but the safer pick won out here and Kareem Jackson should go above and beyond what the Texans got out of Dunta Robinson last year.  We also considered Navarro Bowman, Morgan Burnett, JD Walton, and Amari Spievey.

A starter from his freshman year on at one of the best college programs in the nation, Jackson will only be 21 at the start of the season, yet we still think he can step in and help Glover Quin and Jacque Reeves immediately.  We wanted a corner that could play both zone and man effectively since defensive coordinator Frank Bush tends to run a little more zone than most coordinators.  He’s also very young, which is a trait the Texans tend to value in their higher picks (Amobi Okoye, Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, etc.)

To tell the truth, I’m very stunned to find Jackson on the board here: I imagine he’ll go much higher in the real draft.  I think this might have something to do with how late he was to arrive on draft radars as most everyone expected him to come back.  But hey, we’ll take him.

Mocking Dan reacts: Houston had a lot of great choices left on the board and went with one of the best. Jackson is being talked about by some as a possible first-round pick so to get him here is a coup. He's a rookie starter who should do very well and make the fans forget about Dunta Robinson's average Houston career.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Rob Gronkowski/TE/Arizona, 2 - Brandon Spikes/LB/Florida, 3 - Chad Jones, S, LSU, 4 - Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida, 5 - Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois

Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of Houstons selection of Jackson? Please be sure to check out Battle Red Blog for all of your Texans needs.

Great Pick

For such a young kid he has a lot of experience in a top notch D. Does anyone know his combine stats?

Great pick

I give it an A. They need a CB to replace Dunta and this is a good guy to do it.

"What say you of New England's selection of Jackson?"

Oh Sweet! We managed to get one of the best corners with someone else’s pick! ;P

Seriously, great pick though, I think this kid is going to be just as good as Haden and Wilson

Best player who fits a need. Makes my job a lot easier since you picked him, but he’s a fantastic choice.

Wow

I’m not sure if I would consume more alcohol being pissed at a real-life selection of RB in the 1st round, or from celebrating a R1-R2 that mimics what happened here for the Texans. Either way, Specs will come out ahead in 2 weeks.

If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?

Yep

When you’re a Texans fan, the only sure-fire winner is Spec’s. Bet on it.

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.
