2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Pick 52
The second round of the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls along. We're having each SB Nation blogger make selections for their respective teams. Michael Bean, lead blogger of SB Nation's Pittsburgh Steelers blog, Behind the Steel Curtain, checks in to make the No. 52 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away!
With the No. 52 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Chad Jones, S, LSU
Michael Bean says: Sorry, this blogger did not send in a write-up.
Mocking Dan reacts: This pick should be a toss-up between Jones and Morgan Burnett of Georgia Tech. Brandon Spikes may be a great 3-4 inside linebacker, but a safety could step in and contribute much sooner than a linebacker.
Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Rob Gronkowski/TE/Arizona, 2 - Brandon Spikes/LB/Florida, 3 - Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida, 4 - Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois, 5 - Morgan Burnett, S, Georgia Tech
Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of Pittsburgh's selection of Jones? Please be sure to check out Behind the Steel Curtain for all of your Steelers needs.

Jones seems like more of a thumper SS than a FS to play alongside Polamalu
if I was PIT looking for a safety I’d take Burnett, even though I like Jones better in a vacuum.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Just how deeply can your senses be wrong? With some VR goggles, a camera and a touch on the back researchers were able to overcome a person's sense of being inside their own body.
I disagree
With the resigning of Clark and then the signing of Allen, I feel that while signing a Strong Safety like Jones is not an immediate need. Pittsburgh still has Mundy in the system, and while he hasn’t exactly panned out yet, I would want to bet a 2nd round pick yet that he won’t.
Adversely, with Farriors age and Timmons ability to play outside, I would consider drafting Spikes with the hope that whenever Farrior retires and Harrison hangs it up, Timmons would move over and Spikes and Foote would pickup the middle. Am I way off base here?
However Spikes is IMO the best player left on the board followed closely by Burnett and then Jones, so if we end up with my 3rd favorite available player in the second round I will be rather happy.
I think you are quite a way off base, despite my feelings that the Steelers should allow LT to play outisde they seem set on him being the Mack LB, so we need to fill the Buck linebacker (currently played by foote, who is the slower more physical guy who takes on the pulling/free o lineman allowing the mack ILB to tackle the ball carrier. if we had spikes and foote as our 2 starting ILBs we wouldn’t be able to cover TE’s deep as both are sub standard cover ILB’s. If we keep Timmons as our Mack ILB, have Spikes as our Buck ILB then we would need to take someone to backup Harrison and Woodley at OLB and take over for Harrison when he hangs it up.

Yes I did
but he is THAT good
well he isn’t but it’s a nice way to remind us all of how good the real LT was and hopefully tell Timmons to act like his namesake.
