2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Pick 55

The second round of the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls along. We're having each SB Nation blogger make selections for their respective teams. JasonB, lead blogger of SB Nation's Philadelphia Eagles blog, Bleeding Green Nation, checks in to make the No. 55 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away!

With the No. 55 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles have selected Morgan Burnett, S, Georgia Tech.

JasonB says: We went offensive line with our first pick and linebacker with our second pick both of which are needs. However, those picks meant it was pretty important to focus on secondary help with this pick. Admittedly I was salivating when Kareem Jackson was falling, but there is still a number of good options left.

Morgan Burnett was actually a guy I was considering taking with the 37th overall pick so I was pretty excited to see him still on the board here at #55. He's got protypical size, he's a ballhawk who makes plays in coverage, and is willing to step up to stop the run. So often it seems like you have to choose between CB like cover safety or a LB like hitter safety and rarely do you find those guys who can do both. Even rarer do you find them near the bottom of the second round. The Eagles never really replaced Brian Dawkins when he left last year and I think Burnett does that right away. I question whether he'll still be around this late in the real draft, but I'd be ecstatic to see the Eagles take him here.

Mocking Dan reacts: After just missing out on some cornerback help, Burnett is a heck of a consolation prize. Jason is right about Burnett being that player who can replace Dawkins. Great selection.
