Trades involving big-name players may mixup the draft

It's unlikely the trades of Donovan McNabb and Santonio Holmes were the last ones that will affect the upcoming draft. Several more big names could be on the move. Here are some that came to mind. Make some predictions of your own in the comments.

Brandon Marshall | WR | Denver Broncos
- Everyone knows the story about Marshall. He's as productive as he is disruptive. He wants a new contract and wants out of Denver. There has been some discussion that he could be headed for Green Bay or San Francisco. At least those are the rumored teams this week. Marshall could land anywhere because for as much problems as he causes, he's still young (26) and a great talent. Considering that he's under contract until 2011, Denver could just make him suck it up.
- Predicted value: Second-round pick.

Albert Haynesworth | DT | Washington Redskins

- Since signing a record contract last offseason, Haynesworth has been a distraction. He doesn't like Washington's scheme on defense and isn't coming to offseason workouts. Some think Haynesworth isn't quite as unhappy as has been reported. And it would be hard to move his contract. Still, there's a lot of discussion about Haynesworth being on the move.
- Predicted value: Second-round pick.

Ronnie Brown | RB | Miami Dolphins
- Adam Schefter has said that the 'Phins have been "open to dealing RB Ronnie Brown for well over a year." In a draft that has some question marks with the running backs, Brown could be enticing. But he'll turn 29 during the season and his productive days may be coming to an end. With that also comes middling value.
- Predicted value: Third-round pick.

Star-divide

Marshawn Lynch | RB | Buffalo Bills

- Lynch is unhappy with Buffalo and the Bills seem to be done with Lynch. He's had some off-the-field issues, but when Lynch is on, he's very good. But his attitude lowers his trade value some.
- Predicted value: Fourth-round pick.

Lendale White | RB | Tennessee Titans
- After losing a lot of weight leading up to the 2009 season, White was expected to be a big factor for the Titans. He followed that up with a career-worst season of 64 carries for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Before he can be traded, though, he'll have to sign his restricted free agent tender.
- Predicted value: Fifth-round pick.

Ted Ginn | WR | Miami Dolphins

- Ginn, the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft, hasn't been quite the playmaker Miami expected. Jason LaCanfora of NFL.com reported on Tuesday that he's being shopped, but it's hard to imagine teams are lining up for an undersized wide receiver with 10 touchdowns in three years. Ginn was very inconsistent last season and has questionable hands.
- Predicted value: Fourth-round pick.

D'Qwell Jackson | MLB | Cleveland Browns

- Jackson hasn't signed his restricted free agent tender and rumored have around that he wants out of Cleveland. He might not be a great fit in the 3-4 and actually could be best-used as a weak-side linebacker in a 4-3. He's a very good tackler, but not necessarily a playmaker.
- Predicted value: Fourth-round pick.

Jason Campbell | QB | Washington Redskins
- It would be a shock if Campbell isn't moved soon. No more real thoughts necessary.
- Predicted value: Fifth-round pick.

Mike Vick

I believe that there is still a possibility of Mike Vick being traded. There have been rumors of the eagles talking to Jeff Garcia, and they might be looking to move away from the Vick experiment. The Eagles have their quarterback in Kolb and I don’t think there is any reason to keep Vick on the roster.
Predicted Value:4th Round

Do you really want a 40 year old Garcia as your backup?

by Yankees10 on Apr 13, 2010 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes actually. He still has some gas left in the tank and can mentor a QB that I know big red will bring in if he trades away Vick.

by Moug on Apr 13, 2010 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Gas left in the tank?

Based on what? He hasnt thrown a pass since 08.

by Yankees10 on Apr 13, 2010 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought he was 80

If he’s 40 the Chargers can pair him with Billy Volek for the all epic backup QB squad

IMO

Well they can draft a guy like Tony Pike or something to compete for the backup Job. I don’t think having Vick as a backup is that much better that Garcia.

Why does everyone in Washington hate Jason Campbell?

If my team didn’t already have a quarterback for years to come, I would jump at the opportunity to trade a fifth round pick for Jason Campbell. He is better than people think. He played well with a horrible O-line and a lack of playmakers around him. In the rare occasion he wasn’t running for his life, he was able to make good, smart plays. Jason Campbell would be a steal for a fifth round pick, especially if I was a team like the Seahawks or Raiders.

I have no idea. That guy just can’t catch a break. He’s never had a fair shake anywhere he’s been.

The combination of ZERO personailty with ZERO flair to his game is just too much… I think he could do just fine if he had a little bit more of either but the guy is just way too bland. Does that make any sense?? I mean if the guy had some sort of off the field personality people would be much more willing to accept his over cautiousness on the field.

Unless he can find a trent dilfer/unstoppable bmore defense I think the guy is destined for a long term back up job. I personally think Minnesota should jump on this guy ASAP. (While its not his best fit) He is famaliar with the WestCoast Offense, he can be the game manager that a team led by Adrian Peterson/Jared Allen would need and (most importantly) he can sit for a year behind the gunslinger and hopefully pick up some of his mentality.

He is better than people think.

despite what I said about him being a possible fit in Minnesota, i gotta disagree with you here. He is more talented than people think but he has never found a way to use all that talent and i think that has more to do with his own mental limitations than the players around him.

He played well with a horrible O-line and a lack of playmakers around him.

no one will argue with the oline but he has always had a good amount of playmakers around him… granted he never had the big possesion receiver you would want to team up with moss, cooley, Randle El… but there was talent there

In the rare occasion he wasn’t running for his life, he was able to make good, smart plays.

when he wasnt running for his life he was 1) making check downs into the flat and/or 2) missing receivers wide open down field.

Jason Campbell would be a steal for a fifth round pick, especially if I was a team like the Seahawks or Raiders.

so he wasnt able to succeed in washington because ofa lack of playmakes around him but he is suddenly going to go one of those 2 blackholes and flourish?? No chance… wouldnt last a year

VOID!!!

Derrick Johnson

Not a fit in the 3-4, blah blah blah…
Projected value – 3/4?

Good call on Johnson. Man has he been a disappointment.

I remember back in the day the majority of the mocks had him going 3rd overall.

by JimmyK on Apr 13, 2010 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Oops, scratch that – Just looked up some old mocks – Looks like most of them had him going 10th to the Lions.

by JimmyK on Apr 13, 2010 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

it remains a possibility

but, he may have showed enough in his limited playing time to warrant another year in KC

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* KC will NOT draft a LT in the first round, and the draft WILL be heavy on defense

HAHA

He looks like he’s high or something.

How about Marion Barber?

The desire in dallas is to move him, but I don’t think they’d get more than a 4th on him. Thoughts?

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

by Hyatt on Apr 13, 2010 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t think they can get anything for Barber. He has an awful contract.

by JimmyK on Apr 13, 2010 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think they are shopping him.

He will bounce back this year if he can stay healthy. He was bit by the injury bug the past two years and still produced decent numbers. He wasn’t injury prone before these past two years, so I’m thinking that the Cowboys are willing to give him another year.

by Static on Apr 13, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

It doesnt matter if they are shopping him

Barber and Portis actually have negative value because their contracts are so bad

As a Chiefs fan i would take a 3rd for Johnson no problem.

Grab spikes with that 3rd rounder and giggle my way home as someone gets a LB who lacks any and all physicality. His most physical play he’s ever made was this year when he jumped on top of Big Ben to sack him.

You can draft defensive line to stop a player at the line.
You can draft linebackers to stop a player 3-4 yards down the field.
Or you can draft a safety to tackle him 15 yards down the field.
I'll take the first two any day.

while I've been very critical of Spikes' character

I would consider drafting him at this point..

but the problem is… DJ plays WILB, Spikes is ONLY a SILB… so, drafting Spikes only replaces Corey Mays (who could use some replacing, probably)… and leaves Demorrio Wiliams as the only WILB… so it opens another “hole”

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters

by stagdsp on Apr 13, 2010 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Not to me. I believe Demorrio is a better player than DJ in almost every way except big play.

Demorrio broke up more passes than DJ. A lot more. He was all over the place he just doesn’t catch em. He does his job very well though. DJ gets the interceptions and then the next play lets a RB catch one across the middle and take it to the house.

Brandon Marshall to Packers or 49ers?

Where have you heard that? The only team I have heard that has any serious interest at this point is the Seahawks.

Chargers need to make a play for White

Thats a cheap price, he’s young, and could be extended cheap I bet. Anyone know if he’s even avg catching and blocking?

Lynch

What teams would be interested in trading for him?

by Brennan McCoy on Apr 13, 2010 4:37 PM EDT reply actions

Dude is one bong hit away from a year suspension

And he apparently took 20 bucks from a women who happens to be the wife of a police officer. So he could be dumb enough to piss dirty. Funny thing is I do want him, but I know it wont happen.

This offseason for the Chargers has been about stacking future picks in preparation of a huge roster turnover in 2011, and jettisoning knuckles heads not adding them

Interesting you don't mention Osi Umenyiora.

Tho I agree, I don’t think he’s going anywhere so it doesn’t really matter.

How about this trade: Ginn and maybe a 6th round pick for Dquell Jackson. The browns have gotten much deeper in their LB corps and added multiple new faces in the offseason. couple that with the possibility eric barton makes an impact and you have a very expendable jackson. the browns do need someone who can stretch the field. while ginn is inconsistent, defenses will respect his deep speed and it can open up underneath routes.

yeah…same source as mine…shits and giggles. is hixon a deep threat (or can stretch the D) like ginn?

like Ginn?

Probably not, I doubt there’s many at all as fast as him.

But Hixon’s a better route runner and from what I’ve seen from Ginn, Hixon’s got better hands and a better understanding of football (he knows where the marker is..)
