Brandon Marshall traded to Dolphins

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins are sending a second-round pick in this year's draft and a pick in the 2011 draft for Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Last season Marshall finished with 101 receptions for 1,021 yards and 10 touchdowns in 15 games. Miami's leading receiver was Davone Bess who had 76 receptions for 758 yards and two touchdowns.

The acquisition of Marshall should accelerate the development of quarterback Chad Henne, who started 13 games last season.

It should also accelerate a trade of wide receiver Ted Ginn, the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft.

Miami gave up the 43rd overall pick and a pick next year to obtain Marshall. There is a sentiment that Seattle was the leading suitor for Marshall until they swapped second-round picks with San Diego moving to the No. 60 spot.

Schefter is speculating the second pick in the deal will be a second rounder in next year's draft. Marshall is flying to Miami today to take a physical. The NFL also has to approve the trade. Neither are expected to hold up the trade.

Update: Schefter says Marshall will get a four-year, $47.5 million contract extension with $24 million guaranteed. That's a ton of money for someone who can be considered a malcontent.

Wait, Miami's trading Ginn?

Why? I thought Ginn was playing well.

They want to trade Ginn

Doesn’t mean there’s actually a team stupid enough to do it.

Disagree

Ginn was a 1st round pick that now has a value of a 5th to a 7th rounder. There will a lot prospects drafted as ST’s player that flame out. Ginn has proven to be a solid ST’s guy. A proven guy is worth a late pick even in a draft as loaded as this draft is.

Meh

A first would have been nice, but two 2nds are better, I think. Especially since one is in a draft this deep.

I got the third degree from Broncos fans for saying that they

get nothing lower then a 1st and a third for Marshall.

Its a 2nd this year and next year too

You are Nostradamus

Seriously though, some Bronco fans were going to be emotional when it came to the Brandon Marshall compensation issue. You were closer to right (on the compensation) than some realized.

Marshall's overrated

The dude led the league in targets but only managed 1100 yards. Granted there wasn’t much else going on with that team, but this looks like Roy Williams-in-Detroit syndrome; a guy puts up numbers because he’s thrown the ball more than he should be.

I disagree

You really cant call a guy thats made 100 receptions for three straight years overrated, regardless of how many times hes thrown to. Yeah his YPC average isnt very good but it takes talent to make 100 receptions and to do it three straight years is pretty impressive. I do agree with you in that I dont think he will make even close to that this year. Im thinking more around 70.

surprised

After his problems with TO (I think that stands for toilet odor), I’m surprised that Parcells would want another WR with an ego. Then again, Marshall’s issues were mostly about money and the coach; he certainly got the ball enough. My guess is that Parcells called Belichick to confirm that McDaniels is as big of a jerk as he seems, so he could not blame Marshall for that.

You're an idiot if you think McDaniels is a jerk, and that's with whom Marshall was squabbling. His problem was with the medical staff.

On reflection, I realise you're not a Bronco fan, so you obviously don't know Josh; "as he seems" would be a fair statement.

Because to the people that don’t listen to the guy talk, he’s a lunatic without a plan.

Well

You can knock the Dolphins off of the list of teams that could draft Dez Bryant.

Yeah

This makes me wonder where exactly the dude could slip to.
I think It’s quite possible he’d be available for New England’s pick at 22— or remotely, maybe even Baltimore’s at 25.

Is this the end...

… of all the talk about how Jerry Jones went over Bill Parcells authority to hire Owens?

There was an awful lot of noise about how Parcells quit because of that meddling and now Parcells goes out of his way to hire another malcontent me-first player?

I think that all that talk is now dead and none of the guys that wrote that kind of ish is going to remember that they did…
