Lions haven't come to consensus on No. 2 pick

The general belief is that Detroit is going to select Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh with the second overall pick in the upcoming draft.

But there is still plenty of speculation out there that the Lions could trade for defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. Should that happen, the Lions would likely select Oklahoma State offensive tackle Russell Okung.

Regardless, general manager Martin Mayhew told reporters on Thursday the team hasn't decided on who to take second overall.

"In this situation here, I think we still have time to get to that point," he told reporters. "We're not at that point right now."

Mayhew also told reporters the pick will be decided by he and head coach Jim Schwartz. The team has publicly disclosed that is has had four of the top players in for visits – Suh, Gerald McCoy, Okung and Trent Williams.

Based on the assumption that Suh and Okung are the better players at their respective positions, that would eliminate McCoy and Williams.

Consider that Schwartz has said the team needs talent, he's a defensive-minded coach and Detroit has been one of the worst defenses in the league for three straight years.

That would lead you to believe Suh is the choice. But with the Haynesworth speculation, we might not know for sure until draft day.

Why would washington

trade haynesworth to detroit just to lose out on okung as a direct result of the trade?

That is a great point.

But I think they like Trent Williams and would be willing to take him.

as a Giants fan,

i’d love to see them trade Haynesworth and draft a RT at #4 overall.

Depending on what they got back. It might be worth it.

Also consider that McCoy would probably drop to them at 4 in this scenario (Bradford, Okung, Suh)
An offensive line could be put together in the later rounds or with the picks they got back for Haynesworth…

Again, why does anyone believe a word that these guys say this time of year?

I am a Lions fan and appreciate the great job that Mayhew is doing, but come on, they have a goddamn good idea who they are going to draft.

It'll be Suh

I’d be shocked if it wasn’t.
