Report: Dwyer, McCoy Test Positive at Combine
Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer and USC tight end Anthony McCoy are among the names of those who failed drug tests at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine, according to FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer and Alex Marvez.
The story claims Dwyer's circumstance is believed to be special. He tested positive for an amphetamine in February, but Glazer and Marvez say that this was triggered by a prescription medication that Dwyer has permission from the NFL to use for a pre-existing medical condition.
Dwyer's draft status is not believed to suffer due to this.
McCoy tested positive for marijuana, which his agency (Priority Sports and Entertainment) revealed to teams so they may go on with the scouting process. The same agency represented Luis Castillo in the 2005 draft, where Castillo admitted to failing a steroid test, but was still drafted in the first round.

Probably wont affect their stock too much.
Players are always testing positive and admitting to these things but usually dont fall much.
Was wondering when these would start to come out...
does anyone really care anymore? It really doesn’t drop stock..I mean, Castillo was a borderline first rounder originally..and ended up that way.
Professional sports players smoke weed. College is to prepare you for your profession…I guess Anthony McCoy is just better prepared then others!

Its really not sports players in general. go onto a college campus and find 5-7 random people. chances are, one smokes weed occasionally. Even the video game/RPG/LARP (live action role play where you dress up in costumes) had its tokers at my universit. its hard to find 10 people and not find a pothead or an occasional user among them in college. Its the nature of college. everybody does it really.

The NFL shouldn't test for illegal recreational drugs.
They don’t enhance performance and they don’t hurt anybody other than the user. All it does is create a headache that nobody cares about. If someone gets arrested, thats a diffrent thing. Then you discipline the arrest. But they’re no reason to bring to light unsavory private behaviors, even if they are illegal.
wrong.
These young men are about to become multi-millioniares over night. Ownership cares whether they do drugs or not—especially if they are top pick. Whether they like it or not, first rounders are the face of their respective teams. Drugs matter.
Drugs are bad hmmmm kay
That said no one considers weed a drug unless you are over fifty years old and or live in a town with one grocery store. Its only a stupid plant people.
IMO
Who cares whether it’s a plant or not, it’s still a drug

Thats funny considering your name
I agree weed isn’t any worse than alcohol so I dont think it should be that big of a deal…CRACK on the other hand is understandable to discipline for lol
Carbohydrates are the most widely abused drug in America
Sometimes if I work until the sun comes up, on my way home I see a line around crispy cream a block long at about 5 am.
Thats some donut dedication

or Caffeine. Those carbs go well with Caffeine too…Caffeine is a legit drug and it is LEGAL. it is classified as a psychoactive stimulant drug.
I know every thing about weed and what people say and why people started to spread the nonsense.
i know why weed was first criminalized to grow (and it was not about the psychoactive effects). I know why weed is considered a gateway drug (and its pretty stupid).

They could care less about these guys’ physical well-being. Its all about image control. The NFL wants to be perceived as an anti-drug organization. But they can do that without actively testing for drugs and creating their own black-eyes. Drugs only matter when somebody gets caught. So why catch them and create bad publicity?

Someone has to get caught, so they can see who is dumb enough to go to the combine toasted. And so they can tell everyone that their testing works
IMO
This. This is how I feel. I have no problem with drugs, but my opinion is that they are okay but people should be smart about them. if someone is toking up near the combine, that is just dumb. If I know that I am looking around for a job (theoretically, if I smoked, not saying I do or don’t), I would stop smoking for a while if I smoked. its all about using some common sense and if the NFL has to punish a few idiots to keep their image clean, so be it. it still is illegal so they have every right to crack down.

“The poor Canadian snowboarder, in the 1998 Olympics, they took away his medal because he tested positive for marijuana, which is kinda redundant number one, number two, they said that marijuana was a ‘performance-enhancing drug’. Marijuana enhances many things, colors, flavors, sensations, but you are certainly not fucking empowered. When you’re stoned, you’re lucky if you can find your own goddamn feet. The only way it’s a performance-enhancing drug is if there’s a big fucking Hershey bar at the end of the run. Then you’ll be like a Swiss ski jumper going, ’I’m there!’’

Sadly, it doesnt matter
I find it telling that McCoy would smoke pot KNOWING he was going to be tested at the combine and was going to be a top 5 pick. Thats millions of dollars he’s willing to risks to get high.
However, the consequences of a failed cover-up are always far more severe than the prior act alone. It was in his best interest to bite the bullet and notify teams asap.
McCoy was never going to be a top 5 pick
He was a 3rd rounder at best and probably will remain there after this.
There's too many McCoys
I originally thought Colt when I saw the headline. Didn’t even think about Gerald…
I didn’t think about anthony…he was the last McCoy on my mind. I actually thought this was Gerald McCoy when I saw it and I thought “well tampa bay took sap and he smoked”. I just thought it might make them think he is even more like sapp…

At least Dwyer was smart enough to have a script
Shoot I dont even smoke herb or like tweak, but I should get doctors permission just in case in want to get polluted one day
IMO
yep…its called california and complaining about pain or depression or sleep apnea…diseases that can be somewhat easily faked (at times) and cali you can get med-weed.
actually, if I ever want medical weed, I could pretty much get it. There is a good chance I will either get sleep apnea or am at a fairly high risk of sleep apnea. it kinda runs in my family. my grandma had it, my aunt, my uncle, and my dad is at high risk for it.

How can you fail a test....
if you have permission to use the substance? Dwyer has taken the medicine for almost his entire life for a medical condition & was granted a therapeutic exemption by the NFL. So he may have tested POSITIVE for a banned substance but he didn’t FAIL the test. Some scandalous shit Fox is putting out there just to chase a buck. Glad you got it right. FWIW Jon is a GREAT kid.

Testing positive
And failing the test are the same thing. You cant blame the chemist, their job is to test for metabolites, identify, and provide evidence of their concentration.
