Shake's Final Mock
It's Draft time so time I set my best guesses in stone.
Here are some other mocks from the MockingTheDraft crew: Mocking Dan | BigBlueShoe | Brian Galliford | Conjunction
Find a roundup of mock drafts here.
| Round 1 | |||||
| 1 | St Louis | Sam Bradford |
QB | Oklahoma | Not the pick I'd make, but what the Rams appear set to do. |
| 2 | Detroit | Ndamukong Suh | DT | Nebraska |
The top player in the draft at the position of the Lions biggest need, Lions fans rejoice. The Lions passed on Oher for Pettigrew last year, they shouldn't have any qualms about passing Okung for Suh. |
| 3 | Tampa Bay |
Gerald McCoy |
DT | Oklahoma | Elite player at a major need position. |
| 4 | Washington | Trent Williams | OT | Oklahoma | Word is Shanahan loves Williams' athleticism for their zone blocking scheme. The pick would be reminiscent of the Branden Albert pick. Williams isn't very LT ready, but he has the tools or else he wouldn't have been picked this high. Interestingly the very next pick could be a major endorsement or indictment of the Albert depending on whether the Chiefs pick or pass on Russell Okung. |
| 5 | Kansas City | Eric Berry | S | Tennessee | And I think it'll be an endorsement. The ugly sack total falls partly on Cassel who had issues with pocket presence in his year starting in NE and partly on the OL which has upgraded a guard spot and improved it's protection late in the year. There's no pick in the draft that I feel is more likely to be traded than this one. Safeties and ILBs are rare this early and Dan Williams is a serious reach. If the pick is made by KC, Eric Berry is the rare talent to justify the rare pick of a safety in the top 5. |
| 6 | Seattle | Russel Okung | LT | Oklahoma St. | Rumors are swirling that Pete Carroll could generate some head scratchers this weekend, but with Okung there I can't imagine them passing. |
| 7 | Cleveland | Joe Haden | CB | Florida | The Browns added Sheldon Brown, but Brown is over 30 and knocking Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald to nickel and dime would make for a very nice group of CBs |
| 8 | Oakland | Taylor Mays | S/LB | USC | As shown by the firesale price level tenders put on the Raiders RFA linebackers, Al Davis isn't happy with the current corps. A 4-3 WILL is one of the roles that Mays could succeed in (the other being as a Adrian Wilson type box safety). |
| 9 | Buffalo | Jimmy Clausen | QB | Notre Dame | The Bills have a long list of needs to address but this is their only chance to address Franchise QB (NO Tebow in the 2nd does not count). |
| 10 | Jacksonville | Rolando McClain | MLB | Alabama | Earl Thomas to replace Reggie Nelson is the other major option here, but McClain is one of the top handful of players in the draft, falling only because of the relative rarity of LBs picked very early in the draft. |
| 11 | Denver | Dez Bryant | WR | Oklahoma St. | Not all character concerns are created equal. Marshall was a malcontent. Dez seems to just be flakey and uncomfortable under media/NCAA investigator attention. |
| 12 | Miami | Earl Thomas | S | Texas | The Dolphins safety play caused major struggles in pass D last year. Earl Thomas along with Sean Smith and Vontae Davis will give the Phins a nice young DB corps. |
| 13 | San Francisco | Bryan Bulaga | OT | Iowa | Questions about Bulaga being a cornerstone LT will be moot in SF with Joey Staley in the position. Bulaga can excel at RT and slide over to LT if/as needed in a pinch. |
| 14 | Seattle | Derrick Morgan | DE | Georgia Tech | If Okung and Morgan fall I don't think even Pete Carroll could screw it up. Top OT and top DE in the draft class. |
| 15 | NY Giants | C.J. Spiller | RB | Clemson | It didn't seem like too long ago the Giants had an elite 3 back system. Now they, and the Chargers who were in similar shoes are both in the market for another back early in the draft. |
| 16 | Tennessee | Jason Pierre-Paul | DE | South Florida | Wishful thinking that a division rival will pass up Brandon Graham and Jerry Hughes along with some good CB prospects for a roll of the dice on JPP? Probably. |
| Round 1 | |||||
| 17 | San Francisco | Mike Iupati |
G | Idaho | The Niners OL is set to roll with Bulaga and Iupati on the right side. |
| 18 | Pittsburgh | Kyle Wilson | CB | Boise St. | The Steelers could make the blockbuster move with a Big Ben trade, but if Ben stays around the Steelers will be looking for DB help. |
| 19 | Atlanta | Sean Weatherspoon | OLB | Missouri | Weatherspoon moved up the board nicely with a good senior bowl and combine. He won't make it out of the 1st round. |
| 20 | Houston | Dan Williams | DT | Tennessee | With the demand for NTs there's a good chance Dan goes even earlier despite concerns about him coming from a 4-3 and only having one big season. The Texans would be thrilled to get a big plugger in the middle of their 4-3. |
| 21 | Cincinnati | Jermaine Gresham | TE | Oklahoma | Cincy hasn't used the TE much recently, but they've shown interest in Gresham who would be a great weapon for them. |
| 22 | New England | Jared Odrick | DE | Penn St. | The front 7 rebuild starts on the line with the stout Odrick. |
| 23 | Green Bay | Anthony Davis | OT | Rutgers | Anthony Davis can take the Tarik Glenn (another 1st round LT talent with weight issues) route, beginning his career at guard and kicking outside in the near future. |
| 24 | Philadelphia | Devin McCourty | CB | Rutgers | The Eagles secondary is extremely thin right now. They'll need to devote several draft picks to DBs. |
| 25 | Baltimore | Brandon Graham | DE/OLB | Michigan | Ravens grab value on a fantastic defensive talent. |
| 26 | Arizona | Sergio Kindle |
OLB | Texas | Joey Porter was signed, but he's on in years and Kindle can really get after the passer. |
| 27 | Dallas | Maurkice Pouncey | C/G | Florida | Dallas would like OT ideally, but Pouncey would provide some much needed OL help. |
| 28 | San Diego | Ryan Mathews | RB | Fresno St. | Mathews' solid build compliments Sproles pretty nicely |
| 29 | NY Jets | Everson Griffen |
OLB | USC | With Jason Taylor in the fold the Jets can take a project rusher. |
| 30 | Minnesota | Kareem Jackson | CB | Alabama | Jackson's a sleeper for the 1st round and fits a team that likes the Tampa-2 well. Lito Shepard couldn't cover Collie or Garçon last year, he's no real solution. |
| 31 | Indianapolis | Charles Brown | OT | USC | Brown upgrades the LT and a guard spot for the Colts, filling two glaring needs. |
| 32 | New Orleans | Brian Price | DT | UCLA | Price fits the Saints attack attack attack style of D. |
| Round 2 | |||||
| 33 | St Louis | Carlos Dunlap |
DE | Florida |
The Rams get a talented edge rusher to place opposite Chris Long over the aged Leonard Little |
| 34 | Detroit | Javhid Best | RB | Cal | The Lions O should be a potent one with Megatron, Bryant Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Sheffler and a thunder/lightning RB combo of Kevin Smith and Best supporting Matt Stafford |
| 35 | Tampa Bay | Golden Tate | WR | Notre Dame | The WR poor Bucs get to turn the tables on their division rivals with the player since as the 2nd coming of Steve Smith. |
| 36 | Kansas City | Terrence Cody | NT | Alabama | Pick does the double duty of finishing out the Chiefs 3 man front and keeping NT talent out of their division rival, the desperately NT needing, Chargers |
| 37 | Philadelphia | Nate Allen | S | South Florida | Eagles get a very talented safety who sneaks into the 1st in some mocks |
| 38 | Cleveland | Colt McCoy | QB | Texas | No one can really think Jake Delhomme backed by Senneca Wallace is a long term solution. |
| 39 | Oakland | Bruce Campbell | OT | Maryland | Freak athlete at a need position. |
| 40 | San Diego | Brandon Spikes | ILB | Florida | Timed speed has become a major issue of discussion, but any issues with his game speed where rarely noticed or mentioned. |
| 41 | Buffalo | Rodger Saffold | OT | Indiana | With the Franchise QB in place defensive needs take a backseat to protecting the top 10 investment. |
| 42 | Tampa Bay | Jerry Hughes |
DE | Clemson | Bucs get a nice athletic pass rusher, as is vital to a Tampa-2 D. |
| 43 | Denver | Tim Tebow |
QB | Florida | I think it's dumb, but someone is going to do it. |
| 44 | New England | Koa Misi |
OLB | Utah | Pats get their edge rusher now that he's protected by Odrick. |
| 45 | Denver | Ricky Sapp |
OLB | Clemson | Sapp is a good pass rusher with great athleticism for the 3-4 OLB spot and even some cover skill. |
| 46 | NY Giants | Daryl Washington | LB | TCU | Washington gives a great cover LB at WILL or in the middle if the Giants want to run T-2. |
| 47 | New England | Montario Hardesty |
RB | Tennessee | The Pats inject a RB sleeper into their RBBC. |
| 48 | Carolina | Demaryious "BeyBey" Thomas | WR | Georgia Tech | BeyBey is a nice fit for a run heavy team. He can really contribute run blocking and going deep on PA while he learns the rest of the pro WR skills. |
| 49 | San Francisco | Chad Jones |
S | LSU | Jones gives Singletary's D a thumper at SS. |
| 50 | Kansas City | Arellious Benn | WR | Illinois | Benn, Bowe and Chambers would be a nice trio for Matt Cassell |
| 51 | Houston | Toby Gerhart | RB | Stanford | Gerhart gives them a compliment to the speedy shifty Slaton. |
| 52 | Pittsburgh | Damian Williams | WR | USC | Damian is one of the best route runners available, making it likely he can help fill the void left by Holmes early. |
| 53 | New England | Brandon Ghee |
CB | Wake Forest | More young CBs to push out the aging vets. |
| 54 | Cincinnati | Tyson Alualu | DT | Cal | Alualu is considered a boardline first rounder by some. Good value for a Bengals front that could use some boost. |
| 55 | Philadelphia | Jermaine Cunningham | DE | Florida | Cunningham can give the Eagles a nice edge rusher opposite Trent Cole |
| 56 | Green Bay | Jason Worilds |
OLB | Virginia Tech |
Worilds can really get after the passer, though some question how well he can transition to OLB. |
| 57 | Baltimore | Rob Gronkowski |
TE | Arizona | Gronk can take over TE receiving duties since Todd Heap is morphing into an offensive tackle. |
| 58 | Arizona | Navarro Bowman | ILB | Penn State | Bowman fills the hole left by Dansby's exit. Bowman has fantastic talent if he can keep his head on straight. |
| 59 | Dallas | Brandon LaFell |
WR | LSU | Another Roy Williams is a bust in Dallas. |
| 60 | Seattle | Lamarr Houston | DT | Texas | With Morgan and Houston added to the DL the Seahawks should have a much easier time disrupting the pocket. |
| 61 | NY Jets | Vlad Ducasse |
OL | Massachusetts | A young project for an OL that's getting on in years in places. |
| 62 | Minnesota | Linval Joseph |
DT | East Carolina |
Big successor to Big Pat Williams. |
| 63 | Indianapolis | Corey Wootton | DE/DT | Northwestern | Wootton can contribute right away in the Raheem Brock role and if his explosiveness rebounds another year removed from ACL injury the Colts have a massive steal. |
| 64 | New Orleans | Jonathan Dwyer | RB | Georgia Tech | Dwyer is a project in the passing game, but he can run the football and the Saints are in the market for a power back. |
| Round 3 | |||||
| 65 | St. Louis | Geno Atkins | DT | Georgia | |
| 66 | Detroit | Jared Veldheer |
OT | Hillsdale | |
| 67 | Tampa Bay | A.J. Edds | OLB | Iowa | |
| 68 | Kansas City | Sean Lee | ILB | Penn State | |
| XX | Washington | Forfeit | 3rd round supplemental bid | ||
| 69 | Oakland | Mitch Petrus | G | Arkansas | Need position player that lit up the combine. |
| 70 | Philadelphia | Patrick Robinson | CB | Florida State | Philly gets great value on the last piece of their secondary overhaul. Robinson is 1st round caliber according to some. |
| 71 | Cleveland | Morgan Burnett | S | Georgia Tech | |
| 72 | Buffalo | Arthur Jones | DE | Syracuse | |
| 73 | Miami | Cam Thomas |
NT | North Carolina | |
| 74 | Jacksonville | Dominque Franks | CB | Oklahoma | |
| 75 | Chicago | Mike Johnson |
G | Alabama | Sorry NotJay, no word on any sisters. |
| 76 | NY Giants | Matt Tennant |
G/C | Boston College |
|
| 77 | Tennessee | Perrish Cox | CB/KR | Oklahoma St. | Fills the CB and returner need in Tennessee |
| 78 | Carolina | Alex Carrington | DE/DT | Arkansas St. | With needs an addressed at DE and DT the Panthers snag a tweener to hold the edge at DE and get after the passer from the 3-tech. |
| 79 | San Francisco | Akwasi Owusu-Ansah | CB/FS | Indiana (Pa.) | Niners get a versatile DB to finish shoring up the D's backend. |
| 80 | Denver | Jimmy Graham |
TE | Miami |
|
| 81 | Houston | Chris Cook | CB | Virginia | |
| 82 | Pittsburgh |
Reshad Jones | S | Georgia | |
| 83 | Atlanta | Anthony McCoy |
TE | USC | |
| 84 | Cincinnati | Eric Norwood |
OLB | South Carolina |
|
| 85 | Cleveland | J.D. Walton | G | Baylor | |
| 86 | Green Bay | Trevard Lindley | CB | Kentucky | Given a 2nd round grade by the NFL advisory committee last year, Lindley returned to school and struggled mightily with injuries. If he stays healthy the Packers will have a very nice man to man cover CB. |
| 87 | Philadelphia | Jon Asamoah |
G | Illinios | |
| 88 | Arizona | Aaron Hernandez | TE | Florida | With the linebackers shored up and another pick coming the Cardinals can get Leinart a receiving TE. |
| 89 | Arizona | Jerome Murphy | CB | South Florida | |
| 90 | Dallas | Ciron Black | T/G | LSU | Black's stock took a massive tumble last season, but he could still become a good RT or guard with some coaching, maybe even show some of the LT skill that had him projected top 10. |
| 91 | San Diego | Torrell Troup |
NT | Central Florida | |
| 92 | Cleveland | Kyle Calloway |
RT | Iowa | Walton and Calloway should fix that rickety right side of the Browns OL. |
| 93 | Minnesota | Dan LeFevour | QB | Central Michigan | Miss out on Tebow? How about Tebow-lite? |
| 94 | Indianapolis | Amari Spievey | CB | Iowa | Spievey is a great fit for a Tampa-2 scheme and has the speed to run deep when needed. Run support a massive plus. |
| 95 | New Orleans | Greg Hardy | DE | Mississippi | Hardy gives NO a potentially great DE, who if his waistline keeps heading the way it's been going this offseason will instead fix their need for a beefy interior guy. |
| 96 | Cincinnati |
T.J. Ward |
S | Oregon |
|
| 97 | Tennessee | Donald Butler |
MLB | Washington | |
| 98 | Atlanta | Austen Lane |
DE | Murray St. |
|
| Round4 | |||||

OLB | Troy | |

| 121 | Philadelphia | Ed Dickson | TE | Oregon | |
| 122 | Green Bay | LeGarrett Blount | RB | Oregon | |
| 123 | Arizona | Clay Harbor | FB | Missouri St. | |
| 124 | NY Jets | Dexter McCluster | WR | Mississippi | |
| 125 | Dallas | Major Wright | S | Florida | |

| 127 | Seattle | Taylor Price | WR | Ohio | |

I got through all 4 and was adding some write ups
and then realized I had Mays at 8 and 17. I don’t even like Mays. Not sure how that happened. That was fun fixing.

Broncos.
Can;t say that I like this Broncos draft anywhere near as much as your previous efforts. I actually like Bryant at #11, so that’s not it. And I wouldn’t mind Tebow, even though I think there is no way he’s there at #43, so that too isn’t it. Worilds, Graham and Owens just don’t fit for me.
I don’t think we need a situational rusher, not with All-Pro Dumervil on one side and last year’s first round pick finally getting to start on the other. We certainly don’t need a TE, seeing as they’re underutilized as receivers in our offense and we already have Graham to start and Richard Quinn (notice the preference for blocking/balanced types) for depth. Finally, Owens doesn’t feel like a quality DL prospect for our 3-4.
How do we emerge from the first three rounds without a single interior lineman? How do we have time for an OLB, but not an ILB where we might actually need a starter? Just some thoughts in case you update after Round One tonight!

Good draft for the Cards
I would just change our 4th round pick to any talent on the D-line/O-line or even a return man CB/WR.
They are who we thought they were!

Love Spiller...
Tennant and Angerer too.
I don’t see Washington. I’d like it..but I think Sean Lee’s a better fit. I told ya that already tho :)
Spiller, Lee, Tennant and……Teo"Neshiam. Perfect.

Key mistakes
You said the Lions Made a mistake passing up on Oher why will they make the same mistake passing up on Okung mean while letting Stafford get beat up by three of the best Pass Rushers in the Matthews , Peppers , Allen all in their division . Holmgren will take a QB ,man he loves QBs . The Mays pick is not logical even dealing with the unlogical Raiders . Gailey likes Tebow and Mccoy athletic ability , he will pick 1 of them later and go lineman to help the run game and for protection . You think that Parcells will pass up on Dan Williams . Spiller goes with Seattle 1st pick simply because Okung will not be there to replace Jones . Giants will draft a corner or Linebacker first if Bryant is there they will scoop him up quick . Ryan Matthews or Javid Best might go with Cincy first pick . The Bolts will take Cody to replace Williams . While every one is in tilted to their own opinion I say this Mock Draft will be 20 % correct .
a 20% hit rate would be outstanding

false
Giants will not draft a corner…and Jerry Reese will fire himself on the spot if he drafts Bryant.
Spiller is the correct pick.

Seahawks need a starting Safety.
They only have 2 on their roster and only 1 has starting experience. As much as I like Houston at #60, Burnett would fill a greater need. I’ld be surprised to see Dallas go WR in the 2nd instead of S as well, but it could happen.
I have to disagree,
if only slightly. At DT all we have is Mebane. Bryant is still raw (not sure why he didn’t get any playing time last year) and Terrill and Cole in my estimation are scrap heap guys you can sign off a FA wire any time. Both are big needs, with safety being easier to fill in round 4 if needed (Major Wright vs. Jeff Owens).
fyi
added a bit at the beginning since your mock is up at the top.

Pretty happy with that Hawks draft.
Okung is a match made in heaven, Derrick morgan is also another great pick, as bp42810 said previously we couldve taken a safety at 60, but Houston is a good addition to the DL. And im literally in love with their 4th round. Being a big SEC fan i know what Anthony Dixon is capable of and hes a very talented sleeper for sure, and Price also proved in college that he can straight up ball. Two great selections in the middle rounds. Great write up.

Packers
I like the Davis pick, but not too much of a fan of Norwood or Lindley in the third. I’m sort of undecided on the Blount pick.
A few changes made since someone at SB caught a rather large omission.

Like the Cowboys picks
Interesting to see you have the Cowboys picking four SEC players, two Bayou Bengals and two Gators. All are real talents, and I’ll be thrilled if they fall to us. Overall, great job.
Lindley is not going in the third round. He’d be lucky to even be drafted
by The Licensed Pessimist on Apr 22, 2010 2:03 PM EDT reply actions
I dont know about that
Lindley if he would have entered the draft last year probably would have been a 1st rd pick. I agree that 3rd is too high, but he will most likely be drafted in the 5th or 6th.
3 Sooners in the top 4
That might be unprecedented. Has any school ever had 3 draftees in the top 5? Top 10, even?
Penn State - 1995
Three of the top 10 (Ki-Jana Carter at #1, Kerry Collins #5, Kyle Brady #9).
Not sure if there are others, and certianly not at the level that most are projecting (3 of top 6).
I think those teams choosing Sooners this year in the top 10
hope they turn out better then that

Lions
I like it. 3rd rd is a lil early for a project LT, but overall for the Lions, pretty damn good. Good job, dude
