From Polian Via Phil B on the colts pick
Interesting:
Phil B: Just now, Polian said of Angerer, "Hopefully he can come in and play a major role for us from day one." BP was asked if this was a pick for the future, somebody who would eventually replace Brackett. As we know, Gary just signed a multi-year deal, so I can’t help but wonder if Angerer competes for Wheeler’s spot as SLB.
“I am in favor of censorship ‐ not against what is supposed to be sexy or dirty, but against what is idiotic.” -Jean Renoir
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: After waiting seemingly forever, it is finally draft week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and the schedule for next season is being released or something like that this week.
by Cassieper on Apr 23, 2010 6:02 PM PDT reply actions
Also:
Phil B: I’ll say this for Angerer. He’s a funny guy. We just spoke to him and he said he wasn’t even watching the draft when the Colts called. His agent had told him it would be a while before he went, so he was in the kitchen, working on the food spread, with family and some friends over. The Colts’ call surprised him.

I would have never thought I'd say this:
so far Oakland has the best draft in the AFC West.
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
I dont
I think Rolando McClain is a top 15 player, but not top 7. I like the pick for them, only because he is a safe pick.
McClain and Houston are good players
And I don’t like any of the other teams drafts in that division.
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
I think the Chiefs is better just by Volume
Eric Berry is 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft, McCluster and Asomoah are instant impact players. Houston probably wont even contribute his first year. McClain is a good pick. I dont think their draft is anything special. Overall, the AFC west has had an odd draft. You never know though.
Berry is the only non-Raider pick I like from that division
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Are you kidding?
Asomoah is the number one zone blocking OG in the draft and McCluster is an absolute stud. Also, Id take Eric Berry over Rolando McClain and Houston. Why wouldnt you like McCluster?
just thought it was a little high for him
arenas was a slight reach too. asomoah was a nice pick though. should contribute right away.
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
McCluster would have been picked the very next pick.
Mell Kiper had him 7th or 8th on his board. I expected him to go in the first 16 picks of the 2nd round. I dont think it was a reach at all.
wasnt a huge reach, but definitely a slight reach
we’ll find during the season
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
IDK
still think, in my unbiased opinion, so far Raiders draft is best in that division.
but, we won’t know for sure for a while.
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Im a Realist
Im very Impartial. To me, the Raiders have the 3rd best draft. Each of their picks were reaches. I even dispise the Sea Seahawks from their days in the AFC west, but Im 100% sold they have the best draft (Along with the 49ers).
Houston takes Earl Mitchell DT

NFL DRAFT SCOUT
Read & React: Savvy defender. Quick to read run and get involved. Disciplined defender who doesn’t bite on play-action. Keeps his position and does a nice job of squeezing the receiver to the sideline with his size and better than anticipated playing speed.
Man Coverage: Good size and use of hands to knock receivers off their timing when in press coverage. Has a high backpedal and doesn’t possess the quick feet or balance to turn and run with elite speed. Struggles a bit in his transition, though he has enough speed to recover against most wideouts.
Zone Coverage: Better in zone coverage than in man. Alert defender who tracks the ball and is quick to close and make the secure stop. Keeps his head on a swivel and doesn’t waste motion or time switching off his primary zone to attack the ball.
Closing/Recovery: Only marginal overall explosiveness. Struggles to generate a consistent burst to close on the ball and break up the pass. Long arms, which he uses well to battle receiver for jump balls. Times his leaps well and has good size. Loses a step in his transition and has only average acceleration. Has good speed for his size, but can be beaten over the top by elite speed.
Run Support: Disciplined defender who is active in run support. Recognizes the action quickly and fights through receiver blocks to get involved. Generally does a good job of keeping contain, but will lunge at times in the open field, opening up cutback lanes. Good hustle in pursuit. Takes proper angles.
Tackling: Generally a reliable open-field tackler, though he does lunge, resulting in some ugly missed tackles on occasion. Not a natural striker, but will lower his shoulder into the ballcarrier to create some pop. Has to do a better job of wrapping up and driving through the ballcarrier.
Intangibles: Has struggled with durability throughout his career. Enjoyed a breakout senior campaign and may be an ascending player whose best football is ahead of him. Proved to be much more athletic in drills than scouts expected. Showed signs of maturity as an upperclassman, working harder on improving his conditioning and film room work because of the injuries he fought through.
