Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

The first three rounds of the NFL Draft by the numbers

After the jump I took a bunch of information the NFL sent over and turned it into and easy-to-read post. Kind of neat, if you like facts and figures.

Star-divide

Here is the breakdown of number of players drafted per position:

Cornerback: 12
Defensive tackle: 12
Wide receiver: 12
Defensive end: 10
Offensive tackle: 9
Safety: 8
Outside linebacker: 7
Running back: 7
Guard: 5
Middle linebacker: 5
Tight end: 5
Quarterback: 4
Center: 2

*note: Dexter McCluster was drafted as a running back. I counted Chris Cook as a cornerback.

Of the 98 picks, 54 have been made by the AFC, 44 by the NFC. Players on defense have accounted for 54 picks while there have been 44 offensive players selected.

Here is how the conferences have broken down:

- SEC: 23
- Pac-10: 15
- Big 12: 14
- Big 10: 13
- ACC: 9
- Big East: 5
- Mountain West Conference: 4
- Western Athletic Conference: 4
- Southern Conference: 2
- Colonial Athletic Association: 1
- Conference-USA: 1
- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference: 1
- Mid-American Conference: 1
- Sun Belt: 1

Florida has the most players selected with seven – Joe Haden (1-7), Maurkice Pouncey (1-18), Tim Tebow (1-25), Jermaine Cunningham (2-53), Carlos Dunlap (2-54), Brandon Spikes (2-62) and Major Wright (3-75). Alabama and Texas have each had five players selected.

So far, 32 underclassmen have been selected. The first obviously was Sam Bradford who went first overall to St. Louis. The most recent was linebacker Rennie Curran, selected 97th overall by Tennessee.

In alphabetical order, the first player listed would be Nate Allen, taken by Philadelphia in the second round. The last player would be Major Wright, taken by Chicago in the third round.

Where is the Independent conference?

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

The draft is deep in CB and DT, so this seems like a good spread.

I loved that pick when it came down. They did what they needed to do to that DL.

loved the Chad Jones pick even more

saw his 90 yd punt return for a TD…dude is 6"2 225lbs..how does he do that?

And now he’s just gonna focus on football?

I’m a give Jerry Reese the benefit with JPP too…this guy ain’t gonna draft a dude who doesn’t know how to play football, regardless of his experience.
