Vote for Steal of the Draft
Is it too early to vote for Steal of the Draft?? Hell no !! here are a few just to get you started, but feel free to add your own.
Kyle Calloway/Rd 7 No 216/Buffalo: Although former Hawkeye LT Bryan Buluaga gets most of the credit, in fact it was mostly Calloway responsible for shutting down 1st round draft pick Derrick Morgan (DE Titans)
LBs Dekoda Watson and Jamar Chaney Rd 7 # 217 and 220: The two fastest LBs at the combine, both were surprisingly available in the 7th round. Although perhaps limited to Tampa-two defenses, Watson Luckily was picked by the Bucs, and Chaney by the Eagles.
Dorin Dickerson/Rd 7 No. 227/Texans: Perhaps a new trend away from "workout warrriors", the fastest TE at the combine, was thought by some to be worthy of a 2nd round pick, due to his versatility as an H-back/ TE/WR.

Gotta be Tate
he fell for really no good reason…the fact a team chose Demaryious Thomas over him is a joke in itself.
Too bad the SeaChicks may not have a QB to throw to him (or may he’ll “make” Whitehurst like he did with Clausen)
the reason D Thom was chosen over him
is we have a little quick WR in Royal, and we dont need another. We needed the big time playmaker and got it in D Thom. I do think Tate fell too low but I do think D Thom is the more physically gifted WR
the thing with that
is that while Thomas may be a bigger man, he’s just simply not a better WR. Tate is not a little waterbug like Royal, not at all.
If anything…Tate is that explosive playmaker you all want. And he’s a polished WR as well.
I guess the plan with Tebow and Thomas is to run the single wing option? Thomas is a very good blocker at least.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 26, 2010 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Thomas isnt a WR at all
The guy blocked and ran a go route, that’s it. That’s all he did in the stupid triple option. He better learn how to catch the bubble screen that Denver has become so famous for.
IMO
Uhmm
watch his highlight tape my friend, he caught a lot of screens and made explosive plays off of them. I’m serious, they’re on youtube
by DBroncs1414 on Apr 27, 2010 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions
I thought it was pretty funny
The part about him “learning how to catch a bubble screen”, if you didnt know; catching a bubble screen entails turning 90 degrees and catching the ball. It’s hardly something that needs to be learned.
And the part about “Denver becoming famous for the bubble screen” was a joke about their play calling, and zero ability to stretch the field.
IMO
Not everyone does well off bubble screens
U need to be very explosive for it, and he is. and the zero ability to stretch the field can be placed on Orton throwing the worst deep balls in the league, not play calling. Why would any good O coordinator call deep throws wen there QB cant throw them?
Tebow is not a bubble screen QB
last time I checked the Bolts ran their fair share of screens to.
I’ll give your team one thing tho. When the game’s on the line, LT wont be riding that stupid bike on the sidlines lol or crying about a toe injury HAHA
Last time I checked
The Chargers averaged more yards per pass then anyone in the NFL. There’s no one in the league that throws the ball down the field better. And LT will be riding the bike with the game on the line, it just will not be with the Chargers.
IMO
OK
as a Chargers fan, u should sympathize with drafting a QB with an odd throwing motion. Didnt Rivers come into the league throwing side arm?
by DBroncs1414 on Apr 27, 2010 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions
Not side arm.
He shot puts the ball because as a kid his dad made him throw a pro sized ball. The mechanics are just suppose to help a QB get rid of the ball quickly and accurately. I dont dislike Tebow because he’s throwing motion is different, it’s because it takes forever. Granted we are talking about fractions of a second, but it makes a giant difference.
IMO
look at the sports science thing on ESPN
it explains Tebow and his new throwing motion, and how much faster it is
I don't think it's way too slow
I just question how his mechanics will be in a live, game situation. It’s a little more difficult to focus on a compact throwing motion when 300 pound men are chasing you. You’ll just go by muscle memory and to get to the point where that will be his new throwing motion is not a 2 month process.

Tate vs. Thomas
Thomas does actually have a verified 40 time that he ran before he broke his foot. He ran a 4.38 compared to Tates 4.42. So Thomas not only has size over Thomas but he’s also faster. And scouting reports all say Thomas is a better blocker than Tate and he won’t catch the ball with his body which Tate has a tendency to do. Thomas only really falters is his route running which is only because he never had to learn a route tree. So it really isn’t as crazy as you make it out to be that Thomas went before Tate when you take into account his better size, speed, blocking and his overall potential imo.
well that's a very Al Davis way of thought....
route running is basically the best indicator of pro success for a WR. Or at least, a dude who comes in and helps you right away.
I guess McDaniels could use him by just sending him deep like he was used at GT. Or like I said, using the single wing O like they did in the 40’s.
Either way. If you’re a pro style Pro team…lol, Golden Tate is a better WR for you.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 27, 2010 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Dont agree with that at all
Lets see how he gets of the press in the pros

If you ate gonna use unoffocial times, Tate ran in the 4.3s

Mike Williams 4th round Pick by the Buccaneers.
That would be my pick.
I'll go with Clausen
I thought he was a bit overrated by some, but definitely not to the point that he’d fall to #48.

dorin dickerson
could have been as hi as a 2nd rounder…
he will move to WR, has same size as “All World” Andre Johnson (off by an inch and a few pounds (like 5))…he will learn from AJ and hopefully be better then the next Marques Colston

It might sound Homer
But to me, its Perrish Cox from OK st. Mike Lombardi and Steve Wyche both admitted he was “the” steal of the draft. He has all the tools to be a great CB/returner, but got into a little bit of trouble. He will play this year and play well.
Im surprised u didnt mention him. Many considered him a 2nd round talent, but we got him in the 5th
I could imagine the army that clown's gonna start in NY now.
Hide your women and children!!!!
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 27, 2010 6:51 AM EDT up reply actions
Yea
but we got him in the 5th, so if he does prove to be a head case he’s gone and no harm done
by DBroncs1414 on Apr 27, 2010 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions
wasn't the head case
as much as the kindergarten class he’s got in his name
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 27, 2010 6:52 AM EDT up reply actions
You can make fun of him all u want
But there is no denying his talent. Mark my words, Perrish is THE steal of the draft
I agree
I think Cox will be one of the biggest steals of the draft. Are you guys going to have him be your punt returner this year or is Royal going to continue?
Cox will compete to return
And we Bronco fans are hoping someone can take the full time return duty if its not Cox. Royal cant both return and play WR, and since we lost BMarsh we need him more at WR now so were hoping someone steps up and most of us believe it will be Cox
It's Jimmy Pickles
No doubt

He should have gone higher in the draft.

The talents there, but he has a horrible work ethic. And we always see how that works out……

He would be my pick for biggest steal
Work ethic alone is not a good enough reason for a first round talent to fall that far.
My picks (guys only drafted in the later rounds)
Dwyer, Dekoda Watson, Perrish Cox, Dominique Franks, Ricky Sapp, Cam Thomas, Robert Johnson, Reshad Jones, Carlton Mitchell and Anthony McCoy

Clausen
Only because the Panthers had to think they had no shot at him with pick #48 being their first. Lot of guys fell surprisingly far.
Dez Briscoe in the 6th
I’d take him over Dez Bryant.

I picked Charles Brown
Of the people above him, I think there were good reasons for each to a lesser value than Brown.
Here is why I didn’t pick Bryant. Character issues aside, Bryant missed basically a whole season of development and then skipped the combine. Yes, he ended up running his pro-day, but a pro day or combine can only show that he has stayed in running shape since being deemed ineligible and that he is a pro prospect. Any legitimate prospect is going to look good in route drills, teams have not been able to evaluate him against real competition as much as other players and have no real way of knowing if any of those skills have regressed. Bryant is a first round talent it seems, but this is a draft where legitimate talent went undrafted completely. I don’t think he is as good of a steal as others below him.
Stats are not a euphemism for tits
I think Dwyer
The drug test was explained away and looking at game footage tells a better perspective of his running ability then a 40 time. Dwyer could make a huge impact over in Pit.

Team McNabb
by definition, most 1st round picks CANT be labled "steals"......
I tried to limit the number of 1st round picks, but did include Bryant, since “diva concerns” and being labled “slow” only pushed Crabtree to #10 last yr, and Dan Williams, since he was the only NT with a first round grade (unless you count Cody), and there are alot of 3-4 teams looking for NTs.
I didnt include Buluaga, I “mocked” him to the Bills, so his drop from potential Washington, KC, Seattle …..was significant, but minor compared to fellow LTs C Brown and B Campbell.
I didnt include Cox, simply because I choose Franks (also 5th round) instead. I didnt include Mike Williams, because someone who quits on his teammates is the ultimate sin in football, worse in this world than punching , or poking someone in the eye, or DUIs, or failed drug test…..I almost put Anthony McCoy, and Thaddeus Gibson, but Thaddeus may not be as good as Worilds (both picked by Stealers) and will have to wait his turn. and McCoy went to a team that already has a good, yound TE (seahawks)
Williams
Because I am biased.
But I would actually go with Kindle because most mocks had him in the first.
They are who we thought they were!

I voted.
But the guy I think might be the SOD was not an option. Gerhart-RB from. Stanford to Mn would be my choice. But that might be my purple colored glasses blurring my judgement.

I chose Thomas
Chargers got a starting NT for a 5th round pick and he was projected to be a 2nd round lock. Seeing how important a NT can be…almost has to be that pick.
Almost chose Dorin…because he was a 2nd/3rd guy who fell to the 7th, but DD won’t be starting just yet.

How about Terrence Cody?
or at least Ray Lewis will say so.
Cody and Ngata can bring back memories of Beer and Goose
Not that I'd say Bulaga was the steal of the draft
because falling from the top 10 to the top 25 isn’t a huge drop, but if Bryant is an option I think Bulaga would have to be an option. He’s at least as much of a value pick as Bryant, I’d say more.

Kindle for sure
Who here actually saw him even dropping out of the 1st round, let alone to 43?
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
you mean after the driving through a house, then the drug issues
then the news that he’s gonna need microfracture surgery?
Also the fact that he was only ever good cuz Orakpo was dismembering people from the other side?
…I for one.
Well you can enjoy the next Gaines Adams type player (RIP).
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Maybe
…but Adams had no work ethic and no motor.
JPP…the ONLY knock on him is inexperience. He’s got a great motor and a great work ethic.
Whether he busts…who knows.
But he’s not going to start and be asked to be the sole generator of the pass rush like Adams was on the Bucs.
JPP will be used as he should in his first year. Sparingly.
I’m just messing with ya. I like JPP. He is like Tuck Jr. Does this mean Osi is gone soon?
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Oh...lol
Osi..maybe. All reports to the contrary so far. THey may trade Cofield and/or Kiwi tho.
Big John Henderson’s coming in for a visit soon (supposedly…) so if they get him, we’ll see what goes on after that.
Umm…no.
