Dolphins ask odd question of Dez Bryant

What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? How can you make our team better?
Was your mother a prostitute?
That was the question given to Dez Bryant leading up to the draft. Citing sources, Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the culprit of such bad questioning is Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland.
Silver says Bryant was mad. You would be too. Heck, you should be mad for Bryant. His children was admittedly tough and that should lead to some tough questions.
But "was your mother a prostitute?" That's a bit much.
Following the report that Ireland scouted the wrong player from Utah, you have to wonder about the team's lead personnel man. At least Bill Parcells is there as the team president. If anyone can set Ireland straight after these two allegations, it's Parcells.

Update: Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post has an update on this story. A quote from Ireland:
“My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I’m consider drafting,” Ireland said. “Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions
“Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him.
“I appreciate his acceptance of that apology and I told him I wished him well as he embarks on his NFL career.”

That is absurd.
Although it might be fun just to mess with people you aren’t planning to draft. I hope he did it to be an ass, because if they live under the impression that that question could somehow help them if they drafted him they are idiots.

this alone makes me respect Dez Bryan more. That he didn’t wipe the desk with Ireland’s face…like I probably would’ve done, is a testament to Dez.
Unbelievable.
Kudos to Bryant for not punching Ireland in the mouth.

How he reacts would probably be fairly similar to how he would react if taking shots (low blows) in the media. Checking for a sense of self-control, I’m guessing.
I think you're giving too much credit.
If the Dolphins hadn’t gotten Marshall they may well have drafted Bryant, who might then have told them to stuff it and not sign. There is nothing to gain by asking that question but enmity.
What a jackass! I can't believe he asked that.

when Bryant torches Miami (or whatever team Ireland is apart of) every time he plays them.

I think I can understand the reasoning behind the question, but I would also understand if Dez had punched the guy out. Awkward situation right there.

Makes me rethink the Diva statement about Dez. To not come out to the media about that and to not stomp Irelands skull in shows remarkable restraint. I mean I still don’t like the guy because he’s a Cowbell, but I am impressed that he didn’t react as he very well could of. Props to him.

You make a huge deal out of nothing, you make it sound as if they didnt scout Misi at all. Big deal, Ireland mistaked Misi for someone else. Now could they have treated JT and ZT better? yes they could and should have but I am not going to whine like a little girl about it.
If you havent gotten over the fact that Taylor is gone then go root for the Jets

Anyway Ireland shouldnt ahve said what he said, he crosed the line
But does anyone see the irony in Silver calling Ireland an asshole? Silver himself is a giant asshole.

Lost some respect for the Dolphins organization
I don’t think this is an anomaly. Take a look at how the Dolphins treat theirr star players after years of service. Jason Taylor, Zack Thomas, Joey Porter etc. All these guy’s leave and never have anything nice to say about the organization.
It just doesn’t not come as a suprise to me that Ireland would asked Bryant if his mother was prostitute. It reflects poorly on Bill Parcells (he’s in charge) and Stephen Ross (the owner). It was unpprofessional and should be looked at by the Commissioner. Bryant’s a better man than I am. I would have kicked Irelands ass if it were me.
