Kiper Still Likes Clausen

No one looked angrier at the draft than one Mel Kiper. Kiper seemed  to take a stand on Clausen, doing so in order to show his scouting prowess against ESPN upstart Todd McShay.

When asked about his ranking of Clausen as the fourth best player in the draft, Kiper responded, "That's my rating. That's my opinion, and I'll stand by it. We'll see what happens three years from now."

Clausen was eventually picked by the Carolina Panthers 48th overall.

McShay was last seen taking a victory lap around the ESPN campus in Bristol, and was therefore unavailable for comment.

There's something intrinsically displeasing

about having to side with either of these two asshats. However, I think McShay is the one who will look better years down the line on Clausen.

Ditto.

I’ll go with McShay in the hopes that this will eat at Kiper and he’ll go away sooner.

Quarterback's are always very difficult to predict.

However, predicting where they’ll be drafted usually isn’t that difficult given it’s usually pretty easy to tell if a team needs and wants a quarterback. Weeks before the draft everyone and their grandmother knew Bradford was going first, and that no other team was desperate for a QB except maybe the Bills, and Kiper took that as a given. I can’t really remember the last time he saw a consensus first round quarterback and said he didn’t expect him to succeed.

As a Broncos fan, I still feel he is a great QB

Even though we took Tebow before him. It really comes down to: Does this player fit your scheme? Thats what the media doesnt understand, and why picks like Alualu and D Thom went high and guys like Clausen and Tate fell

I’m glad he isn’t a p’’’y and change his opinion. I like when people will stick with what they say.

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

Matt Moore is a stud

it is going to make it hard for Clausen

He's really not.

Can we change the name of the poll

“Who will be fired in the next three years?”

Be sure to add a ‘both’ option to encourage voter turnout.

Sam Bradford is such an obvious bust.

Jimmy Clausen wins this by default.

Why wouldn't he?

I still like Clausen more than Bradford. Does it make me wrong? Probably. We’ll see.

Becasue Denver liked Tebow more than Clausen all of a sudden I’m supposed to think that Tebow will be better than him? I had Dez Bryant rated higher than BeBe Thomas is it supposed to change my mind that Denver liked Thomas more than Bryant?

McShay, Todd McShay you hear me boy? It's me TJ and I'm coming for your damn job boy! Oh be scared, be very scared McShay.

I'll go by Gruden's word more then these other 2 douchers

Gruden’s opinion on Bradford was one I’ve thought since dude declared for the draft. He is NOT ready to start in the NFL.

And Bradford will start most likely, cuz there is no one there (and he’s gonna get a boatload of cash too).

That increases the chances he’s gonna bust.

Now Clausen may not be all that great either, but at the very least…if he starts this year he’s gonna have to beat out a solid QB in Moore.

ALSO, the Panthers are a MUCH better supporting cast then the Rams…Steve Smith and their OL can do work just fine.

Robbie Cano...do YOU know?

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 30, 2010 6:54 AM EDT reply actions

Hard to know

because do both players get equal chances to start? Will Moore make Clausen irrelevant? Saying that, i think Clausen has all the tools to be very successful in the NFL and with a bit of luck and behind a running team (which is why i really thought the Vikings were going to take him as a value pick before they traded) he can be a very good west coast QB. He may need to mature a bit but this experience might make him that much better.

On a related question, Would you rather have as a 1st and 2nd rounder:

Sam Bradford and Rodger Saffold

Or

Ndamukong Suh and Jimmy Clausen?

by Sheffieldbengal on Apr 30, 2010 7:09 AM EDT reply actions

Suh & Clausen, anybody disagree?

There is a legitimate debate who will be a better QB—Bradford or Clausen.

As far as I know, absolutely nobody expects Saffold to be the dominant player Suh should become.

There's no contest there, but I'm sure they didn't think Clausen would

be available with their second round pick.

He steps to the left, he steps to the riiiiiiight. That Amos Roberts, he'll make you look shite!

You can't tell who'll be right in three years.

McShay is saying that Clausen is a 2nd round pick and that he’ll have roughly a 10-20% chance of being a starter. Kiper is saying that Clausen is a top 10 pick and that he will have roughly a 40-70% chance of being a starter. If Clausen is a starter in 3 years it doesn’t say anything about who’s right, just as if Kiper picked heads and Clausen picked tails, would flipping the coin determine who’s right?

by LantermanC on Apr 30, 2010 12:24 PM EDT reply actions

Kiper is retarded, Jags draft is an F? They imrpoved tjheir line, brought in two KRs that can help our special teams dramaticlly, got a fourth round pick for next year, and lastsly got a vet starter at MLB

by rhettchrystal on Apr 30, 2010 9:58 PM EDT reply actions

I dislike Kiper, Mcshay brings another option to watching draft commentary

but is almost as bad as Kiper. However my opinion is Clausen will do well in Carolina. Or at least as well as he could since he’ll be handiing the ball off to Deangelo Williams and Stewart there alot.
