McNabb to Washington trade reshapes second round
There was growing speculation that the Redskins were becoming increasingly interested in either Jimmy Clausen with the fourth overall pick or Colt McCoy at pick 37.
After trading the 37th overall pick for Donovan McNabb, think again. Washington finally has its quarterback. Philadelphia has yet another pick.
Phiadelphia now has the following picks: 24, 37, 55, 70, 87, 105, 121, 137, 200, 243, 244. All of those picks will afford the Eagles the ability to move up to grab the exact players they want.
The Eagles will also receive either a third- or fourth-round pick in the 2011 draft.
In February, we wondered if Philadelphia held the keys to the draft. With five of the first 90 picks, it seems that way.
Even with the trade, there will only be a small hiccup in the ongoing SB Nation writers mock draft. We're putting everything on hold for a day.
Follow along as this develops at Bleeding Green Nation and Hogs Haven.
You know, I've been thinking about this for a couple weeks now in event that McNabb was traded: Is Philadelphia rebuilding?
I ask that because they clearly have some big questions that need answered.
Quarterback aside, think about who is on the Eagles. Are Jeremy Maclin or DeSean Jackson really No. 1 receivers? How will LeSean McCoy react to being the lead running back? How will Asante Samuel play this year while wanting a new contract? And who lines up opposite him? What happens when or if the linebackers don't stay healthy again? Will new defensive end Darryl Tapp adapt well enough to the team's defensive scheme?
That's a lot of questions for a team that just gave itself another one: Were Kevin Kolb's sensational two games last season merely a mirage?
The Eagles are getting younger, have first or second year players at the offensive skill positions and a glut of draft picks. If this isn't rebuilding, what is?

Eagles picks reshaped
I can imagine something like this now that the trade has been made:
24) Kyle Wilson
37) Navaorro Bowman
55) Toby Gerhart
The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL
The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back
The 2009-10 New Jersey Devils: Allergic to second periods
You think so?
I have a feeling he’ll be swiped by the Jags if the first thing they covet (McClain) is gone early.

I think the Jags go with Earl Thomas
even if Haden’s there. He’s as tall as Haden..but he’s probably more athletic, stronger and has safety versatility.
That is…if Thomas isn’t gone to the Browns.
Come to think of it…maybe the Jags would be the Eagles trade target for Haden?

I doubt the Jags pass on McClain
I know thats not what the Gmen want to hear but…
They could also go DT or CB imo
IMO
I think he's a possibilty for them
But I think they listen to offers for that spot, not just the Giants either.
I think the Giants would be very dumb to give their 2nd rounder to move up..so its really what to the Jags want?
I think the Eggs could offer their 2nd rounder given they have so many picks now, maybe they even offer the Redskins one?
I agree, the Jags could just take McClain. But given their financial situation (there must be some part of the drafting Tebow thing that had some merit) trading back to say, #15 or maybe #24 would save them some bucks.
Are the eagles seriously in the market for a RB
I know they picked up the vet from the Saints and have a 2nd year scat type back. But whats their RB situation?
IMO
The Eagles went 11 and 5 last year but realized they are not that close to the SB.
I would say that they are retooling with the ability to get into, and do some damage in, the playoffs. McCoy and Weaver are an outstanding RB/FB combo, the WR corps is young and very, very good [Celek, Jackson, Maclin, Avant], the O Line needs some work and they already know what Kolb can do. The question is can Kolb hold up for a whole season? The defence is average and needs some holes to be filled [DE, CB, S] which they now have many draft picks to use to do that.
It is possible that they struggle a bit this year to put it all together, but this will be a dangerous team in 2010 and beyond. I think they are “retooling” at exactly the right time. They are getting value for some of their older players which they will invest in the deep talent pool that is in this draft and they will still be a very competitive team in 2010. Very good moves Philly.
This changes nothing, really
Redskins needed to draft an LOT in the First to protect Campbell’s backside. Now they need to draft an LOT in the First to protect McNabb’s.
The only thing to consider now: what do they do with Campbell? Trade him? Who takes him?
Witty's madness once again comes in HTML format at Witty's Draft PREview so stop on by and glower at my chaotic decision-making...
#1 WRs
Neither Jackson or Maclin are #1 WRs in the way the term is often used. But they are two guys with good hands that can faster than anyone else in the league.
I think its too soon to tell for Maclin
as for Jackson? I do think he is an elite WR, but did McNabb make him one? Thats what we’ll find out.
