Analyze Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck
Aaron Aloysius, who writes from ProDraftParty.com, has cut up some games of Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.
Below is his video from the Southern California game. This is not a highlight reel, it's every throw Luck had that game. Click here to see Luck's throws against Wake Forest.
Luck, a redshirt sophomore this season, is considered by many one of the top draft-eligible players in the nation.
The point is for those of you who haven't watch Luck a lot to understand his skills. Having it concentrated like this is a good way to do it.

good vid.
When i first started watching it and i saw his first couple over overthrows on the long balls i thought it was looking pretty ugly. But as the video went on it came clear that the overthrow was probly the best option he had in the situations he did it, so it was a pretty smart move on his part. Not saying that will always work in the NFL but it does show the kid has a brain in his head.
On a seperate note….did anyone else notice that little white boy wide receiver put the hammer down on that one block??? that was a beautiful thing.
yeah it was monsterous. i would not want to be that kid getting destroyed there.

He needs to stay in school
He is so inconsistent. I mean he can look like a first rounder and then look like a 6th rounder. I think it will be better if he stays in school for at least 2 more years.
I don't think he ever looked like a 6th rounder in this video
He’s clearly extremely intelligent and has great pocket presence in a pro style offense. The only questionable parts of this particular game were how often he missed the difficult throws. He nailed all the low level throws and hit just about all the intermediate throws. The ones down the field and on the sideline that were most difficult were the ones he missed. It wasn’t a lack of ability, just a lack of accuracy which will probably improve as he goes. Just my opinion.

I think he will declare for the 2011 draft
but I wish he would stay in school for his senior season to get the best grasp possible of the position.

kinda reminds me of Sanchez. Has the ability but does show inconsistency on the more difficult throws. Whatever team picks him up may need to adopt the Jets’ playbook from last year.

he also did force a couple throws and throw it into some fairly heavy coverage. his decision making is solid but definitely still could use improvement. If he can make some great strides again in 2010, I would say it wouldn’t be bad to leave.

Perhaps one game against USC is not quite enough
to pass judgement? He looked better as the game progressed. As a west coast guy, I can tell you this is Stanford’s biggest game every year (Cal be damned). Did he make his progressions… usually. Did he throw a pick. Nope. Did he win on the road with a crushing 25 yard dart for a TD… yup.
Tebow is drooling for this type of arm/leg combo.
It is what it is...
I wonder what kind of a season he'll have w/out Gerhart
Does Stanford have anybody that will be able to replace him? I know you can’t replace a Heisman worthy running back, but at least someone who will be able to keep the defense honest?
Ive heard they have a pretty good runner to replace him hes young tho i think hes #22? but of course im just a gators fan i dont really know

This guy was a redshirt freshman last year
He shows great poise for someone that young to the system. It’s not quite the same as Matt Barkley and Aaron Corps, but they had as much on field experience coming into the season as Luck did. The difference between what he was in 2009 and 2010 could be tremendous. My concerns about Luck so far are about his operation out of the pro-set, especially play action which he does not sell well (both in the video against USC and other Pac-10 games). But again, this is not a guy who has had great opprotunity to adopt to the system.
Stats are not a euphemism for tits
I like Luck's upside
but I do hope he stays 2 or even 3 more years. He needs more experience to really put it all together, but he really does have all the potential to become a really good NFL QB.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I don't think he needs that long. He's pretty darn close to being ready.

Here is what I saw:
A passer with excellent balance, both out of the gun and under center.
Arm motion that brings the ball back a touch low
Accuracy issues on the touch pass and out throws
Very Good arm strength.
Quick feet
Good Speed
Good decision process that leads to victories over a top rated program.
Good Size.
Is he a first rounder? We will see after this year.
Would I be so bold as to try and predict his future based on one game tape? No.
But he does look like he has great Pro potential. But so did Jevan Snead at this point in his career.

I was not completely sold however on his decision making. good at going to checkdowns and going through progressions but did seem to force the ball a little too much and occasionally locked onto one guy, often the guy he forced the ball to. I also saw from this a bit of consistency issues.
That being said, these are minor tweaks and I agree with you. He should be a legit first rounder if he can improve in those areas and have a fine season.

Definition of a pro style QB.
Excellent in play action. He’s a better QB prospect than Clausen and Bradford IMO.

If you guys want another game
Here’s Luck against Wake Forest also from Aaron Aloysius.

Thanks for the video link.
Watching the first game, he showed great accuracy with arm throws but overthrew badly on every throw he set his feet and used his body; until his last two.
The second video he did better, hitting short and mid routes with accuracy, but still seemed to struggle with long throws.
I’m wondering if his release point and arm strength could cause that. He doesn’t do well with putting any touch on long passes, and a bullet from a lower release will sail. A better release could solve his inconsistency with touch on the ball.
Here’s hoping he gets the coaching he needs.

His head coach is Jim Harbaugh
A 15 year NFL QB. He could definitely help him out.

Could yes.
The problem is do you mess with a kid’s mechanics if it is something he can’t get solved in legal practice time before the season starts. Seriously limited practice with coaches means you are spending time that should be team practice working on mechanics, I don’t think you can afford to do that. If he doesn’t adjust quick enough you could sabotage your season and his draft position.
