Jevan Snead Regrets Nothing
Despite going undrafted, Jevan Snead does not regret leaving school early.
He told Pewterreport.com "I had my degree. I graduated in December with a marketing degree. That was the huge thing for me. A bunch of people said it was because of competition, and I'll tell you right now that's ridiculous. I wouldn't have come out if I were afraid to compete."
Snead signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, and found himself in a similar situation as Don Warren and Kevin Bapsed found themselves in in New York: struggling to make the roster.
Prior to last year's season, Snead was widely regarded as a first round pick (at least by ESPN's pundits). But a poor senior season led to questioning of his accuracy and decision-making, and ultimately led to him going undrafted.

Tampa?
Why did he sign with Tampa? They have Freeman, their QB of the future. I would think that other teams with better situations probably talked to him.
Maybe he felt most comfortable in Tampa?
Or maybe he had very few suitors?
He steps to the left, he steps to the riiiiiiight. That Amos Roberts, he'll make you look shite!
Too early/difficult to tell, imo.
We don’t know what would have happened had he stayed in for another year, he could just as well as had a worse year.

If a Junior comes out & is not drafted, it is a bad decision.
That is just common sense, by staying in for another year they would at least have a chance of getting better & being an UDFA is pretty much the bottom.
the question is, did the advisory board say he would be drafted high?

It shouldn't matter what they said.
He must have known he was terrible last year. Why try and enter the NFL when your most recent work is awful?
As has been stated, he really should have gone back to Ole Miss and completed his senior year. I don’t know much about that program, but I imagine he would have been the starter. He really had everything to gain going back to college.

Unsurprisingly, Snead doesn’t mention the family financial issues that were rumored to be part of the reason why he turned pro.
If the rumors were true, that certainly would complicate the “Should he regret leaving early?” question, even if he gave up a possibly bigger paycheck next year in exchange for some money now.
Alo, do you have a link to those rumours?
I think a lot of us are quick to judge these guys as “greedy” when they turn pro early. I wonder how many of them are due to financial pressure within their families, or even they honestly feel that their current coaching staff has very little to teach them anymore.
I was never a big fan of Mr. Snead, but I wish him well in attempting to make a career for himself in the NFL.
Here’s an article that says “family financial issues necessitated the move”.
Others have reported that Snead left Ole Miss because he was told he wouldn’t be guaranteed the starting job in 2010. Perhaps it was a combination of the two.

Thanks Alo.
I asked because too many times on these sites posters throw out “facts” that have absolutely no basis in reality. ie. they have pulled these rumours out of their ass or seen it in another non-credible source.
As an example I had one back and forth with a poster who claimed he had read that Okung was a “head case”. I badgered him until he admitted that it was his own opinion based on what he saw on some UTube videos.
No problem
I love peddling rumors, but I try to make sure they’re good ones ;)

Interesting info.
Shines some light on his baffling decision to go pro.
He steps to the left, he steps to the riiiiiiight. That Amos Roberts, he'll make you look shite!
He isn’t going to improve as much in College as he will in the NFL. No limit to practice time and much better training facilities. I don’t think he should regret it.
He's put himself in the worst possible situation though.
As an UDFA he’s starting from the bottom. He’s literally going to have to wow the coaching staff to stay on the roster as they haven’t invested a draft pick in him so they have nothing to lose by cutting him.

He could have possibly at least went in a later round if he wasn’t such a dick during the combine. But regardless of course he’s not going to admit to being a dumbass. But he may have been stuck between a rock and a hard place since coming out next year would have put him in the middle of a much deeper QB class

Guys you obviously don't get it!
Snead’s right. With a marketing degree from Ole Miss, the world is his oyster. Who needs football when you have a degree from the Harvard of the south!
but with a year or 3 semesters (an extra semester after his senior year) he could get a masters degree…AND quite possibly go higher.
when you have a degree from the Harvard of the south!
Okay…this is a stupid and probably biased statement. Vandy is definitely the harvard of the south and ranks in a similar area academically. Same with Emory (its more like the cornell of the south). Ole Miss is the the Ohio University of the south. a lof of smart, laid back slackers who party a lot.
Here is a short list of schools that are better than Mississippi academically
Vanderbilt
Emory
College of Charleston (argument can be made for Ole Miss)
Davidson
Duke
Elon
Loyola, New Orleans
UNC (Chapel Hill and Asheville)
UVA
Wake Forest.
That being said, if you said it was one of the best public universities of the south, the argument is definitely solid. of that list, only UNC asheville and CofC are public universities. There is no way, however Ole Miss is at the same academic level as Duke, Vandy, Emory, or Wake.

haha my entire post was meant to be sarcastic
Sorry for not making more ridiculous statements to get that across haha. I was actually trying to poke fun at an ole miss degree.
I completely agree he should have come back. Graduating with a marketing degree from Ole miss shouldn’t be “huge” for him. He should have definitely been thinking football first (and as you said, even if he wasn’t thinking football first, he should have stayed for a free masters degree). He had a laughably awful year and by coming out early he’ll be practice squad material at best.

yeah…
I thought it was just someone being a homer about Ole Miss. it is not a terrible academic school, but it is very much like Ohio U from what I did end up reading on it. some nice programs, decently smart students, but they don’t study and go to class in a drunken stupor.

He's going to have to invest his practice squad money wisely.
