Raiders want you to like Heyward-Bust
I get some seriously strange press releases at times. For a long time, the oddest one was for a crap exhibit at a local zoo – get the scoop on poop!
Of course, the only thing that could top it is something from the Oakland Raiders. After the jump is text from a release sent out by the Raiders touting Darrius Heyward-Bey. The seventh overall pick in the 2009 draft managed to have a good game's worth of production spread across a whole season.
For $23 million guaranteed, the Raiders got themselves nine catches and 124 yards receiving. But that's apparently enough to garner praise from Raiderland. Eat your heart out Louis Murphy.
Also fairly amazing about this press release is that the team lumps great receivers like Tim Brown and Fred Biletnikoff with the likes of Jerry Rice and Randy Moss, who did nothing positive for their legacy while player for the Raiders.
Oh Al Davis, I love you.
Raiders Owner Al Davis has always said that the Raiders have had the greatest players, greatest coaches, played in the greatest games and participated in the greatest plays in the history of professional football. The Raiders have been dominant in terms of winning. The greatest wide receivers in professional football have passed through the portals of the Oakland Raiders or have been coached by Davis.
Lance Alworth
Willie Gault
Art Powell
Andre Rison
Warren Wells
Bob Chandler
Fred Biletnikoff
Jerry Rice
Cliff Branch
Tim Brown
James Lofton
Randy MossNow Darrius Heyward-Bey, the Raiders’ top pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, is prepping to join that select group.
Heyward-Bey has enjoyed a workmanlike offseason where he has put in time and energy to prepare for his second NFL campaign, when many of those whose names mentioned blossomed in professional football competition.
"I’m just working on my game, using this opportunity to get better, to work with my quarterbacks and my teammates," Heyward-Bey said recently. "Just going out, just playing my game. That’s all I’m doing right now. And I’m using each practice to reach my goals."

Ah yes
What would Randy Moss have been without the incredibly instructive period he spent with the Raiders…and we all know Jerry Rice was nothing until he left the Niners.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
He was pretty awful last year
but it still bothers me a bit when a player is declared a bust after one season. I don’t believe Heyward-Bey will ever live up to his draft position, but I still can picture him being a solid pro and a good #2 receiver.
+1
Bad situation for any receiver to be thrown into. And its not like he could control where he was drafted. He ran a good 40 time and Davis picked him 7th.
I hope he does alright.

9 catches and 124 yards
will be considered a bad game for Dez Bryant

and thus a bust
I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
We just dumped a problem WR just so we could draft another?
Yeah right

Well, they drafted Lance Alworth....
and then traded his rights to the Chargers before he played a down for them, so listing him makes perfect sense.

Hakeem Nicks had a better college career than Heyward-Bust and was still not favored ahead of him by all the prognosticators b/c Heyward-Bust’s awesome speed, though Nicks has better hands, is a more physical receiver, was a better route runner and as I mentioned in the same conference put up better numbers and was more consistent.
I am willing to bet Hakeem Nicks will have a better pro career than Heyward-Bust.
hakeem nicks will absoultely have a better career
not only because he is the better player, but he also doesnt play for the raiders. put DHB on pretty much any other team and his first season woulda looked much differnt
Albert Pujols + a glove = Ike Davis

well it didnt really help
that he had the biggest bust of all time throwing himthe ball.. maybe with a semi-consistant QB in campbell Heyward-bey might actually get more catches then I do this year.
