Apparently there was a football draft today
The UFL, which is shockingly still in existence, had it's player draft today. You'll have to forgive me for having no lead-up content. I thought the UFL died in a horrible grease fire.
Anyway, the five teams made 12 picks each tonight. Don't know the teams? Me either. But here are the first five picks:
1. Omaha - DE - DeWayne Wright White
2. Hartford - RB - Andre Dixon
3. Sacramento - QB - Justin Goltz
4. Florida - LB - Weston Dacus
5. Las Vegas - LB - Dominic Payne
Omaha, known as the "Nighthawks," took outside linebacker Chike Okeafor with the first pick in the second round. Had this been 2006, that would be impressive. However, both players have struggled with injuries and obvious interest from NFL teams. Oddly enough, when I tried to go to the Nighthawks' UFL page, it didn't load. Dammit.
Playing the role of the UFL's Joey Harrington is quarterback Justin Goltz. He went undrafted in 2009 out of Occidental College. Surprisingly enough, that is not a dental school. He was given a tryout by Detroit and was not signed last year. Little else is known about Goltz's professional history. Fortunately, some wayward nerd already updated his Wikipedia page.
Other notable selections include Omaha taking guard Shawn Andrews in the third round and wide receiver Ronald Curry in the sixth. Talk about stretching the salary cap.
Hartford took fullback Asaph Schwapp in the eighth round. That is notable because I like saying Asaph Schwapp.
Find the entire draft order and history here. I dare anyone to try and expound further on tonight's selections.

Surprised
Curry wasn’t taken sooner. He did alright with the Raiders for a while

I saw Cortez Hankton on that list
I used to throw to him all the time on Madden when I played with the Jaguars.

Simoni Lawrence - LB or S?
I’ll be interested to see where the Colonials play him.
I thought the undersized LB might get picked up by an NFL team interested in turning him into a safety, kind of like what the Raiders did with Jerome Boyd last year.
If Lawrence wants to get to the NFL next year, spending a year in the UFL developing his safety skills would be a nice move. Hopefully, the Colonials’ coaching staff lets him make the move.
Former NFL guys that I saw
43. Omaha – LB – Nate Webster. I remember him from madden a couple years ago i think he played on the Broncos.
51. Omaha – DT – Hollis Thomas
58. Florida – C – Melvin Fowler Former Buffalo Bills starting center from two years ago.
Hollis Thomas was pretty good for us.
Good bye #43. Good luck in Chicago.

I dont even understand
how do you even get drafted in this league. Do you just have to be a free agent in the NFL or something? Because how do they know Dwayne White or some other player that just played last year wont sign with an NFL team?
I’m kind of curious about this as well. However, not so curious that I’ll figure it out.

I actually tried finding out but couldn't
I did discover that the “Tuck Rule” is a fumble in the UFL, though
how you get drafted

sort of like the CFL
they don’t know, so they have to factor that into the calculations on whether or not to draft a player

So I guess nobody read my UFL mock drafts...
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Omaha must have a thing for former Broncos
They took Kenny Peterson, Nate Webster, and Nick Ferguson. Maybe Webster will be able to keep his helmet on….
