First round pick signing thread
As most of us have heard, Dez Bryant became the first #1 pick to sign on the dotted line, inking a five year, $11.8 Million contract with the Cowboys. $8.3 Million is guaranteed.
The time has come for most of the early picks to concede their unreasonable demands and fall in line. Use this thread to discuss signings, training camp battles or the legitimacy of ramen noodles as a dinner staple.

That figure seems really low
for where Bryant was picked. Is that just me?
Ready for 2010 football already!!!
It is low
The total value of the contract is lower than it should be, although the guaranteed dollars is about the same as Harvin received last year, and he was selected at #22 overall.

The Cowboys obviously have a good relationship with Dez’s agent
IMO
Yep
there’s a report that minutes before making the selection, Jerry Jones called Eugene Parker to make sure there wouldn’t be any holdout problems.

Good News For The Broncos.
This deal should really expedite Demaryius Thomas’ contract signing and it could help with Tebow’s as well.

agreed
surprised though, Dez’s signing was way out of whack in terms of order but it makes sense why they did it. But as you said its perfect for us
I dont see how a WRs contract would help signing a QB
QBs deals are difficult because of the premium, and QBs like Tebow are even more difficult because well because of the lack of pro (mortal) comparisons
IMO
What ej meant was
Tebow was selected right after Dez, so the slotting is there for it. Sure he will get a buttload more than anyone else around him being a QB, but it gives the Broncos and Tebow a starting point in the negotiations
Thank you for that
But for the 2nd time it doesnt make much sense to me. Look at Freemans deal compare to the guys selected around him, the only thing thats somewhat similar is the guaranteed money. The elevators are what make the QB deals unique, and they are what make the deals more complicated
IMO
No, You're Right.
I’m sure that Freeman’s, Flacco’s and Quinn’s deals will all have more of a role in shaping Tebow’s rookie contract than Bryant’s will. Like I tried to differentiate, Dez’s deal should help Demaryius and could help Tim. I think it’s more a matter of just wanting to get into TC with the rest of them, but that’s just me, I guess.

One More Thing...
I hate it when pundits talk about the financial investment in a first round pick, as if #1 and #31 have more in common that #32 and #33. Heck, the reason why we talk about the weighty investment in a first round pick is because of the top few…

once you get out of the top 10
the contracts stop getting ridiculous. The biggest problem though is the garunteed money they get. If Bradford got 100 mil only in incentives I’d be fine, but to garuntee 50 mil or watever it is is absurd. The only person I could somewhat see deserving that much garunteed would be Peyton Manning.

32 and 33 have very little in common
Considering one signs a 5 year deal and the other a 4. Just one of the reasons why the draft value chart is complete garbage considering the value drop from 31 to 32 is the same from 32 to 33
IMO
Huh...
I’m surprised that Bradford wasn’t signed before the draft like Stafford was last year. Everyone knew that the Rams were taking Bradford at #1 (and the release of Bulger only reinforced that).
So, what…? The Rams couldn’t (or wouldn’t) get a deal done before the draft or simply are hoping for him to lower expectations around camp?

They talked about this before the draft
both Bradford and the Rams agreed they would wait until after the draft. I think Bradford was waiting to see if the Browns or some other team would trade up for him, meaning more money then just signing the contract before the draft. It didnt work out that way so now Bradford just has to sign his contract efore camp (which both sides want) and no harm is done. I thought it was a smart move by Bradford, nless this turns into a long term holdout
As a Cowboys fan
I really like this deal

You're not accounting for a collegiate budget
but I do agree that rice is the more sensible low-dollar option.

I wouldn't be surprised...
to see Broncos camp open without Thomas or Tebow. I’m not knocking our FO but I think their MO has been to work it out no matter how long it takes. If I’m not mistaken, both Ayers and Moreno missed some camp days last year. Maybe Beadles will miss a couple this year as well. Damn CBA! Millionaires fighting with billionaires!

Yea the same should be expected by all teams
Adam Schefter said last time it took this long for a 1st rounder to sign (’05) only 8 rookies went into camp on time. Its bad news as this might mean the play of rookies will not be as impressive as many people and teams hope
