Saturday NFL Draft watch notes
This is it for Washington quarterback Jake Locker. He's struggled against top teams and won't face a better defense than Nebraska's all season. The Cornhuskers are again stacked on defense and will get after Locker. They can bring pressure from the inside and outside because their cornerbacks can handle man coverage. Chief among them is Prince Amukamara. It may be a surprise if Locker throws in Amukamara's direction. If nothing else, it could showcase Locker's competitive nature – something that was questioned in the Huskies' opener against BYU.
Left tackle Lee Ziemba was knocked out Auburn's game last Thursday with a knee injury. The knee better be ready for a Clemson pass rush, namely junior Da'Quan Bowers. Although Bowers will have to hold the edge against the run, he'll work hard to get after talented quarterback Cam Newton. A Bowers/Ziemba clash could be the premier one-on-one matchup of the weekend.
Arizona quarterback Nick Foles has looked like a superstar destroying the Citadel and Toledo. He's completed 83 percent of his passes for 574 yards and three scores. He's done all that against little pressure. Enter Iowa's Adrian Clayborn. Arguably the most talented defensive end in the nation, Clayborn is a physical lineman who should have no problem getting pressure. Pocket presence is one of Foles' major issues. It could be exposed today.
The Penn State/Kent State isn't worth just watching for the Nittany Lions. Kent State has two players on defense that are legit NFL prospects. Linebacker Cobrani Mixon, a Michigan transfer, is athletic and fast. If he can shed some blocks, look for him to be around the ball at all times. The other is safety Brian Lainhart. He projects as a backup/special teams player. He's a sure tackler and can cover the pass and run.
A lot of people are predicting a Texas Tech upset over Texas. The trio of NFL-ready cornerbacks at Texas could stop that. Junior corner Aaron WIlliams is the best of the bunch. He has some consistency issues, but he's as good as Amukamara when he's on. Chykie Brown is maybe the most athletic of the three, but he's also the most apt to give up the big play. Then there's Curtis Brown. He has the most potential. He's big at 6-foot, 182 pounds and ultra agile. Don't be shocked if he works his way into the first round by season's end.
There is no doubt that Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck had his ups and downs last week. His resolve will be tested against a Wake Forest defense that plays tough and disciplined.

Ill be keeping my Eye on QB's today.
Lead organizer of the annual 7-round live mock draft at MtD and Moderator of MtD, AnaheimCalling, and Coltzilla.
I have stopped actively participating at Stampede Blue as a big section of their articles have regressed, and much of the overall community environment has also gone way down (if you have questions for me you can email me at colts.faithful@yahoo.com).
Many of us Colts fans are now at BRB, where we have a series of AFC South threads running throughout the season for fans of the Colts, Texans, Titans, and Jags. You can discuss those teams and almost anything else you want.

Did you happen to catch any Cal at Nevada?
Kaepernick is the real thing, I’m thinking, He’s worked on his passing accuracy and his running game was already top-notch. Best I’ve seen so far this year.
Is size a problem?
I don’t know much about Kaepernick, I haven’t seen Nevada play. Does he have the right kind of frame? He must be a stud with the kind of numbers he puts up game after game…
Not unless
If you don’t want anyone over 6’5" tall or 235 lbs as a QB. Jon Dove featured him on a prospect contest , so I started following him again this year. I watched him last year but accuracy seemed to be lacking. That seems no longer to be the case.
Yes he seems to carry himself well and does have a good frame. DB gave you the numbers.

I caught part of it but it was early morning for me lol.
He seemed to do better accuracy wise than what I was thinking. I think it was him im thinking I saw and his footwork seemed pretty good.

Ok what I have seen so far:
Pryor: from what I know is doing pretty well (don’t know as far as technique but at least numbers wise).
Mallett: Overall a decent job. Has shown good foot work and doing well stepping up in the pocket when needed. Has shown some inaccuracy this game already.
Arnaud: waiting to see more but seems to be just standing still on a lot of his hand offs for some reason not sure if this is normal for him or what.

Mallet
I agree Mallet looked solid. He is erratic sometimes, but his overall passing ability will make some NFL coaches drool. He can throw a great long ball and is a little erratic with check down throws. I like that he doesn’t rely on check downs and the run after catch for success. He is poised and because of his lack of mobility, he shifts in the pocket pretty well. Not afraid to take a risk.
I've been saying since day one that Locker was overrated
I’ll take Luck or Mallett over him any day. Hell, I would probably take Denard Robinson over him if he was eligible for the draft this year. Not that I’m biased or anything.

Some team that picked in the top 10
in 2010 is really glad Jake Locker went back to school.
Toney Douglas
I'm looking forward to watching
Stanzi and Foles play tonight. I like both as prospects.
The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun
Yep. Ill have to watch Foles since I haven't seen him much.

Ok ill pay attention.
I have seen stanzi and though he is good he is inconsistent and such. I think he will not be drafted in the first 3 rounds, then again though I don’t see very many QB’s being drafted in the first few rounds.
But I just don’t think he is consistent enough at this point to get a pick before then for sure. Part of this is (like I talked to someone about yesterday) that there are not as many teams looking for starters most will just be looking for projects.

Arizona’s DE’s are really good. And that one guard for Arizona is a house. Literally.
