Rock out with your mock draft out: Scott Wright

LSU's Patrick Peterson breaks up a pass in the end zone during Saturday's game against North Carolina. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Scott Wright of Draft Countdown "relaunched" his site recently and among the new work is a 2011 mock draft. Mocks in September end up being pretty much worthless, but they bring in that sweet, sweet traffic.

Check out the rest of Wright's mock for the entire mock. His Super Bowl is again New Orleans over Indianapolis. I'm guessing he did that to avoid fanboy homers whining.

The mock brings up an interesting scenario that will be fun to observe in April. If Detroit has a top five pick and all of the top junior wide receivers enter the draft, would the Lions go that route? Of course the played-out joke about Detroit taking a wide receiver is out there, but any of the top four receivers would be an immense upgrade over Nate Burleson.

Star-divide

Here is Wright's top five:

1. Buffalo Bills: Jake Locker | 6'3, 226 pounds | QB | Washington
2. St. Louis Rams: A.J. Green | 6'4, 200 pounds | WR | Georgia *
3. Cleveland Browns: Andrew Luck | 6'4, 235 pounds | QB | Stanford **
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Robert Quinn | 6'5, 265 pounds | DE | UNC *
5. Detroit Lions: Patrick Peterson | 6'1, 222 pounds | CB | LSU *

Really there's no head scratchers here. Most sites have these five teams and players in the top five. The only point of contention is Luck recently saying he wants to get a degree before going pro. That might be window dressing from most players, but Luck seemed genuine. And he's going to Stanford, so he can't really get the three year general studies degree.

Note: If you run a draft site and would like to be featured in "Rock out with your mock draft out," email me. However, if your draft sucks, prepare yourself for ridicule.

I like Adrian Clayborn, but after the $$ the Jags dished out to Aaron Kampman, unless he completely busts, I don’t think the Jags take Clayborn.

I would cry for days if the Jags took Clayborn

one of the 4-5 favorite Hawkeyes I’ve watched and a absolute monster.

Well at least if they insist on giving the G's LB

can’t they mock one that isn’t a tortoise?

Greg Jones at least..damn.

Peterson looks good to me as a Lion

no way he’ll last til pick 32 though ;)

I don't see the Redskins taking a WR

even tho they need one. I think that a legitimate NT or a QB of the future would be a higher priority.

Skins Receiver

I go to the University of Pittsburgh. I can say that if Washington takes Baldwin they won’t be disappointed. He put up ridiculous numbers with a terrible QB last year at Pitt. He also has downright disgusting hands and a huge frame. The only better receiver in this class would be A.J. Green and they are extremely close.

I am not knocking Baldwin

& if that is the player that the Skins draft next year I would not be disappointed. They do need a playmaker & I agree that he is one of the best of a very good group of WRs. The problem is that they are now playing a 3-4 & have no real NT. They also have a 33 year old QB with no one being groomed behind him & I think that next years draft will be a good QB draft. WR is a definite need with Moss, Thomas & Galloway being the primary recievers but I think that they have other needs that are more important

I was thinking that too

To say the Browns, Seahawks and now the Cards (though this might have come out before Matty’s move) all pass on QBs? Oh, and the Eagles don’t grab any line help, the Falcons don’t get a corner, and the Bengals need another DT? It is just preseason, but I can’t agree with those calls right now.

It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.

by einman77 on Sep 6, 2010 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Possibly

the problem with him is that people think his cieling isn’t too high, which usually doesn’t equal a first round pick

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 7, 2010 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions

You could have said the same thing about Phillip Rivers and he went in the top 5. I honestly think Ponder is the perfect QB for the Jaguars.

by Fivus Viener on Sep 7, 2010 8:27 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't remember that

I remember he had to fix his throwing motion

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 7, 2010 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I meant him having not having a high ceiling. I think with Rivers, you knew what you were going to get. Same with Ponder.

Quick question

how did he come upon the draft order?

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 7, 2010 12:45 AM EDT reply actions

haha funny

but honestly, does anyone know? is it like based on power rankings or something?

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 7, 2010 10:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Power rankings for what?

No one’s showed anything yet. Seems he ranked the teams in the order of suck.

Broncos are picking 8th, plan accordingly.

Paea makes about as much sense as anyone for Indy

though Fili Moala should have much more impact this year.

I like the pick of Powe

But with our O-line I could see us grabing Nate Solder to replace Adams or a saftey like Moore or McDaniels from Clemson. Maybe a WR like Floyd to replace Ward.

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

by Steel in FL on Sep 7, 2010 1:02 PM EDT reply actions

Wallace and the two rooks

gives us 3 young WR’s if they all pan out. Ward, ARE, and Battle gives 3 older WR. Ward isn’t going to last forever 2 seasons tops. We haven’t had a tall WR since Buress and can you imagine Floyd and Wallace on the same team? pretty sick

Interesting that he'd suggest a CB or Safety for the Broncos.

They have two future starters already backing up Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, and Perrish Cox has looked pretty darn good so far.

Yeah

I think that’ one of the few areas where we won’t draft. DL, LB, and possibly a complimentary RB seem high on Denver’s list right now

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 7, 2010 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Heyward would be pretty good for Denver

Although with all the 3-4’s around, I think he, being one of the few premium 5 techs in this draft, will be hard to acquire

Chiefs had to reach for him because they couldn't trade down.

I have seen so many mocks with the Ravens getting Herzlich. I don’t get it at all. I love the guy this year and think he will be a beast in the NFL, but we took Sergio Kindle this year and then have Suggs on the other side. Would much rather focus on ILB, WR and CB.

by Mr MaLoR on Sep 8, 2010 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

Herzlich is probably an ILB for you guys tho

Kindle’s more of a pass rusher, Suggs too.

Herz has more in common with Ray Lewis then the other 2 (not sayin, but just sayin).

by FreeBradshaw on Sep 9, 2010 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

You really think so? I would compare him very much to the Ravens ROLB Jarrett Johnson right now. Plays the game very similar from what I have seen.

by Mr MaLoR on Sep 10, 2010 2:10 AM EDT up reply actions

And he’s white like Johnson!

I don’t think Herzlich fits with a 3-4 unless he moves inside. Not much of a pass rusher.
