Are Chase Daniel and Brian Brohm to blame for Gabbert and Mallett?
Since Andrew Luck decided to go back to college, there has been a scramble to find QBs worthy of being drafted by NFL teams in need. There seems to be no shortage of "haters" for Locker, Newton, Gabbert, and Mallett.
Lets examine one possible reason why....
Over the years, many QBs have been called "system QBs" due to the theory that because several QBs have had success for that team, that it really doesn't matter who plays QB, they will have good stats.
Lets compare the stats of Gabbert vs his predecessor Chase Daniels, and also Mallett with former Bobby Petrino trained Brian Brohm.

Just because people criticize a play doesn't make them a hater
that word…. so stupid.
I was actually more interested in other peoples thoughts, but .....
I guess have heard for years that QBs for Purdue dont translate well, then along came Drew Brees and Kyle Orton.
Then I heard the Ted Tedford theory, (after Kyle Boller) but Aaron Rodgers seems to be disproving that one.
You can see how Gabbert only threw for 16 TDs his last yr, while Chase threw for 100 in his last thee seasons (notice the yardage difference too). I think thats concerning, but I acknowledge the WRs there are not up to recent standards.
I was pretty high on Brohm comming out whose lowest completion percentage was 63.6 , while Mallett (with one less year) only broke 55 in his last yrs.
How about this for a strange stat …..both Brohm and Mallett equaled their CAREER interceptions their senior year!!
I think that both Gabbert and Mallett simply have a better arm and better size than those that came before them.
I think they will both be drafted high, top 10, and will have good, but not great careers.
I would agree with that.
I just couldn’t see where you wanted to go with just the stats. Missouri has had a nice string of QB’s to go Pro. Brad Smith is an excellent Wildcat option for the Jets. Chase has a Ring now with New Orleans. Gabbert can have a fine career with the right team, like most every QB ever picked that tried to improve, anyway.
Just try to STOP US

Smith is a Wide Receiver
and anyone on the NO team of that year got a ring.

His ht. is what scared everyone away
He was a backup for the Redskins and played very well, not sure why they let him go, must have been because they had the incredible Hawaii gunslinger Colt Brennan on the roster but if he gets a real chance somewhere I would not be surprised if he turns out to be pretty good
Eww...
Chase Daniel…
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
And go Shawn Watson and Barney Cotton! Seriously, leave Lincoln. Now.
I'm not saying he will be Pro Bowl materiel
but he looked pretty good in his time with the Skins & New Orleans must like him enough to keep him around as their # 2
From what I've read NO loves him
They think he is a solid #2.
As for Chase Daniels
He is just a winner. His whole life people have doubted him because of his height. He brought Mizzou from to dust and turned them into one of the most winning college programs in the nation the last 6 years. In HS, he didnt even receive a Texas offer after becoming the offensive high school player of the year twice. He lead his HS team to two straight championship games, I beleive. He is just a winner. I know he will do great when he gets a shot.
As for Gabbert, to me, he is the only worthy QB to be drafted in the top 10. He has all the measurables and it sucks he didnt return to Mizzou.
Did you know Eric Berry was asexually produced by Chuck Norris?
And im not just saying that now that every scout is either
Most people know I voiced this last year.

The "Only" worthy candidate?
With all due respect what “measurables” does Gabbert have that Cam and Mallet don’t have? The only “measurable” I find missing with Locker is his completion %. Some think his unmeasurables outweigh that stat. I find it conceivable ( not probable) that all four go in the top 10 due to the need for QBs in the top 10 teams.
IT IS TIME TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO DRAFT A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK.
No more old guys. No more excuses. No more passing up our own great drafted quarterback.

System QBs are hard to judge
The stats simply show that these four QBs excelled in those college systems. The big question to me is this. Can Gabbert and Mallet learn to read defenses from the pro style offense? This is the big question? Brohm never could. Daniels has yet to do so. I see no reason to believe that either of the new two will be able to do so without extended time on the bench. But that is what the draft is all about. Risk v Reward.
