Kendric Burney of North Carolina Dominating Senior Bowl Practices
Kendric Burney continued his amazing week of Senior Bowl practices on Thursday, picking off a pair of Ricky Stanzi passes and nearly intercepting Colin Kaepernick. Burney has looked great all week and he took it to another level today.
The North Carolina product displayed an exceptional ability to read offenses and anticipate the quarterback's reads during practice according to NFL.com's Pat Kirwan. Kirwan also noted Burney's ability to make up for his lack of straight line speed with his quickness and knack for getting a jump on the ball.
Burney sat out much of the of the 2010 season for the Tar Heels while serving a six game suspension for illegal contact with an agent. In the three seasons prior to that however, he started every game for North Carolina and was the epitome of a shutdown cornerback.
A bit undersized at just 5'9'', Burney makes up for his height with above average leaping ability and elite ball skills. Despite not being thrown out during most of his days down in Chapel Hill, Kendric Burney compiled 11 interceptions in his four year career.
The 2011 NFL Draft boasts a deep cornerback class and with his recent performance Burney is shooting close to the top of that group. After LSU's Patrick Peterson and Nebraska's Prince Amukamara the battle for the third corner is up for grabs.
Burney is certainly making a strong case for that distinction. Brandon Harris of Miami is the leader in the clubhouse and Utah's Brandon Burton, Virginia's Ras-I Dowling, Colorado's Jimmy Smith, and Texas corners Aaron Williams and Curtis Brown are all in the mix as well.
Kendric Burney has been fighting an uphill battle since being suspended at the beginning of the season. He still has a ways to go but I think he has played his way into first round consideration.

Definitely could happen
That’s what I’m projecting in my latest mock but I may slide him up a bit in my next update. I am more impressed by him every time I watch him play.

Classic Tampa 2 corner
If he’s not picked by the Bears or Colts, I’ll be a bit surprised.

Will a rec suffice?
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
And go Shawn Watson and Barney Cotton! Seriously, leave Lincoln. Now.
Super Bowl here we come!
I voted Harris but I think Jimmy Smith will end up going much higher than many are mocking him
This is a guy that supposedly runs a 4.4 at six one 210, and at least from what Ive seen doesnt look lost in man coverage
IMO
what round does Burney go in?
I want a CB badly this draft and Burney sounds good, even though I really want Brandon Harris

Meh
I think there will be some movement here in the corner section. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Peterson fall to Dallas, Amukamara to rise to a top five selection or fall out of the top ten, or a guy like Jimmy Smith to rise first corner taken. Tyson Alualu came out of no where, I don’t think many thought that CJ Spiller would be a top ten pick…shit happens on draft day.
Happy that Burney is doing so welll HOWEVER
NO team is going to throw up an early pick for a 5’9" corner. Teams are just going to be too scared of that stat although he does have great leaping ability. Just like Munnerlyn slid due to height concerns and not because of his athletic prowess, I think Burney will slide a bit. I could see him being picked in the 3rd round at earliest…
how tall is Revis out of curiousty? Haden?

All those guys are 5'11". Five eleven is no five nine.
5-11 CBs like Revis and others might be able to go up against top tier receivers, but a 5-9 corner is simply going to have trouble guarding Pro Bowlers Calvin Johnson and Vincent Jackson at 6-5, nearly a foot taller.
the poll.
i don’t see Prince Amukamara listed as an option.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
widely
but far from consensus.
Brandon Harris and Jimmy Smith would both get votes if we voted for 2nd best CB in this draft.
