2011 Senior Bowl open thread
After a week of highly publicized practice sessions, the Senior Bowl game kicks off today on NFL Network. Use this as your open thread. The game starts at 4 p.m.
What to watch for:
- Jake Locker's accuracy, especially when he's not mobile
- Which other QB steps up (My guess: Greg McElroy)
- Von Miller's all-around game and if he can hold up against the run
- Will Cameron Jordan translate a great week of practice to game day?
- Ditto for Leonard Hankerson
- The breakthrough offensive tackle with Gabe Carimi out today
- Does Titus Young live up to his own hype?

What do you guys think of Colin K?

I like him alot
I think he is the most underated QB this draft
everyone talks about Locker Mallett Gabbert
I like this kid over all of them

I'm not to big on running QBs but he looks talented.

He's a pitcher
And still trying to perfect his throwing motion. He isn’t an intellectual type but he can play as well as anyone from the BCS schools
Status: Boss
Sportingcitadel.com
Big fan of him
has a great bullet pass and fits well in the coryell I think.
Hopefully my picture doesn't show my bias.
4-3 I believe
but I see him being a better 3-4 DE than say clayborn.
Hopefully my picture doesn't show my bias.
he's played DE and DT for Iowa
but started the last two at DT. 3-4 DE or 4-3 3-tech.

Jake Locker
Here we go. Plenty of receiving and blocking talent for him now.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Interesting
That Castonzo is playing LG today. I wonder if that’s out of necessity only.

Nice play
by Greg Jones there. I like his instincts a lot.

Hankerson looking pretty good.

I feel bad for the North O..
They have the worst play caller in the NFL as their OC…

by Ball Hawk on Jan 29, 2011 4:32 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Bob Bratkowski
Bengals OC..
Most bengal’s fans can tell you what the next play will be, he’s that predictable.
Only Brat does an end around to start the game than do a screen for a 3rd and long.
Hopefully my picture doesn't show my bias.

I'm dissapointed with the rules.
There’s a lot of man-press in the NFL, how does this get the CBs ready for the transition.
I think Hankerson would make more spectacular catches in man-press and at the same time the CBs will have more opportunity to shine.
Of all the rules, that’s the stupidest one. I can understand no 3-4 or heavy blitzes.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Who comes up with this stupidity?
Don’t they realize that with off-cover the whole game that the CBs and DLs won’t have much opportunity to show what they really can do in a game?
I would prefer a one-man blitz.
This way, it can be 5 rushers vs 5 OLs, sometimes.
Acho kills Solder there. Pointed out Solder’s issue playing to the inside.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
I don't have NFL Network at school...
…any highlights so far?
Von Miller
Solder
Castonzo
Sherrod
Carimi
Hankerson
Running Backs
Jordan
MIller – Has looked good in two series. Playing linebacker
Solder – See just above
Castonzo – Playing LG, haven’t noticed anything
Carimi – not playing
Hankerson – Decent. Catches with his pads except on the TD catch.
Running backs – Locke looking good. Too early for anyone else.
Jordan – Hasn’t done anything.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Ugh
Does DeAndre McDaniel have to act like a dick after that hit?

well it could be worse
he could have pushed his gf down the stairs again

As I've been saying, no way Solder is first rounder
Cause stuff like that happens where he gets beaten by a quicker faster guy
I always felt that but was his weakness
But wouldn’t be shocked if he goes late 1st
Hopefully my picture doesn't show my bias.
He's got Bruce Campbell written all over him.
ENORMOUS body and athletic, but lacks any and all technique and is a project!
Haha, Bruce Campbell.

if Hankerson can get separation off press-cover not off-cover.
I read that Vince Young
can get separation. I think he goes before Hankerson.
Yeah he got separation all right.

by Ball Hawk on Jan 29, 2011 4:45 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Been surprisingly impressed by Stocker's blocking
But not his ability to get separation. Hasn’t been able to get away from Casey Matthews.
Jake Locker looks lost so far...
he’s looking more like a 3rd Rounder. Christian Ponder looks good except for the fact that he still hasn’t recovered from his injuries and keeps throwing floaters with the hang time of a punt.
Dear Passionate fan, I know you are passionate, but please reply with a logical answer or I will ignore you.
I’m sorry. Jake Locker cannot look lost or bad. You must find excuses why others around him are playing poorly.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Yeah.
He just needs to play with 6’8 receivers who 45’ vertical jumps. That’s all he needs!

i have been saying it forever that Jake Locker is way overrated...
people will yell at me for saying this but Cam Newton is a way better passer..its not even remotely close
I blame the play calling.

The whole Bengals coaching staff as a whole is pretty miserable.
I can’t believe that they actually gave Lewis more power instead of firing him outright. I thought he was going to be canned years ago.

Every player has a huge risk. It seems like there are no sure things in the class. Even after Bradford last year you know what you were getting with some guys.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Agreed
Hopefully next year will be a lot more different, this Draft class is comparable to the 2006 Class, it’s all smoke and mirrors hyped by the ESPN Media Machine. It’s predominantly a Defensively stocked draft.
Dear Passionate fan, I know you are passionate, but please reply with a logical answer or I will ignore you.

He's not Clady or Jeff Otah or anything
But he does have the bulk that they do and some agility. Could be a good mid round pick
Jake Locker should aim to one bounce the ball to his WRs
that way he’ll get it to them in or around their eyeline

No clue. Awful coaching. I understand giving guys their chances, but this is giving Devine zero chance to succeed.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Devine at least still has the greatest HS highlight reel I’ve ever seen.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Devine looks like a 3rd down scat back and nothing else
Shouldn’t be a high pick. I’d say rounds 5-7
Surprising South is up 17-0
I thought the North team far and away had the better roster.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Blocking by DJ Williams was impressive
And with his receving abilities, he could be Jermaine Gresham of this draft. Wouldn’t be surprised if he leapfrogs Rudolph…
That run play
Solder looked excellent. He got to show his strength and footwork.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
He'll be a good Center, too undersized to take on the Albert Haynesworth and the Suh's of the world at Guard.

How do you figure? He’s 6’2, 280-285. Eric Steinbach is 6’5, 295, tops.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
I think he will play Center
& I think he has the frame to put on a lttle more weight. I think he is solid now tho
That seems to be the overriding feeling on Hudson. I wonder why he didn’t practice some at center this week.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
I don't know
& if he can’t play center I would have to agree that he is small for an NFL guard but I think he would still be pretty good

I’m going to step off the computer to eat dinner shortly. I’ll be back sometime in the third quarter.
Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.
Greg Jones was held by Watkins
on a screen pass, wasn’t called. If he wasn’t held he would’ve made a good play.
Kerrigan's stock has gotta be skyrocketing
He’s top consideration now. And the guy he beat, DeMarcus Love, looked lost. Get that guy a map!
Demarcus love, gets beat again
Although he holds and gets called for it. If not for the hold, Kerrigan has another sack.
Love again, moves to guard, gets destroyed on the play
by Sione Fua (Sp?) although Dalton ran for good yardage.
McElroy and any QB that wasn't playing
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
He throws a pick.
Not his fault at all. Uses his mobility to move up in the pocket, makes a good throw and hits Kendricks in the hands, but the ball bounces right off them and up. Picked by KJ Wright (sp?)
And apparently Stanford's kids aren't that smart...
Sherman never shoulda jumped the route with 6 seconds to go! He must be getting some kind of waiver for scholastics!
That actually sounds pretty difficult
Basket Weaving may not be that complex, but imagining doing it underwater holding your breath in a shark tank! Now that’s a workout mentally and physically!
Ronald Johnson beat Sherman on a double move.
More of Sherman’s fault, stupid to fall for that with a desperation heave with 6 seconds left in the half. Johnson was wide open, but Dalton didn’t have the arm strength to get it to him, he had to stop and Sherman was able to recover and break it up.
Yes it was Hankerson

+1
And for the record, Robert E Lee was the better General by miles. Ask any military historian or civil war buff, Grant was Lee’s bitch. However Grant had a plethora of men and supplies to throw at Lee. Anyway….
LOL
Is that so? Lee ordered Picket’s Charge (much to the chagrin of Picket and all involved soldiers with brains). That move on the chessboard was the single worst of the entire Civil War, and coincidentally, the event horizon for the South’s doom.
Now, what was Grant up to at that very same time? Why, he was figuring out who to get past the Confederate blockade of the Yazoo River by digging a fucking moat in the adjacent swamps so he could siege Vicksburg. Goddamned ingenious. Grant and Sherman get heat for destroying everything in their path (Total War), but goddamn did it work.
God Bless America.

Def has accuracy issues. Like how Mayock broke down his throwing style, comparing it to his infield baseball throwing technique…
