10 NFL Draft prospects to follow in the NFLPA Game

Just because the Senior Bowl has come and gone doesn't mean college football all-star games are over.

This week in San Antonio is the NFL Players Association Game, formerly known as the Texas vs. The Nation Game. The idea is simple: Players with ties to Texas play for Bill Bates' Texas team. Those without Texas ties will play for Jerry Glanville's Nation team.

This year's game features several solid players and a lot of small school guy. Find full rosters here. After the jump, see a breakdown of who I consider to be the best players in this year's game.Players in the MTD top 200 have their overall ranking before their name.

Star-divide

89. Jerrell Powe | DT | Ole Miss
At 6'2, 320 pounds, Powe has the kind of compact build that naturally gives him leverage. With that leverage, Powe is stout against the run. He didn't have quite the season everyone expected, but he's arguably the best player in this year's game.

107. Kenrick Ellis | DT | Hampton
After Baylor's Phil Taylor, Ellis might be the best natural nose tackle in this year's class. A South Carolina transfer, Ellis is hard to move off the nose of the ball and handles double teams pretty well.

109. Mark LeGree | FS | Appalachian State
In an average safety class, LeGree could really help himself this week. LeGree is excellent in coverage. He can flip his hips to play one-on-one with receivers, but he also gets a good jump on the ball. Some were surprised he didn't get an invite to the East-West Shrine Game.

116. Cameron Graham | TE | Louisville
Graham may not post the ideal agility numbers at the Combine, but he has quickness and knows how to get open. He also has good hands and makes difficult catches. He had 37 receptions for 439 yards and four touchdowns as a senior. Given Louisville's quarterback play, those numbers are better than they look.

161. Mario Harvey | MLB | Marshall
Harvey is a stat-stuffing linebacker with solid athleticism and speed. He had a ridiculous 143 tackles this season with 17.5 for loss and 8.5 sacks. He broke up seven passes and forced three fumbles as a senior. He's going to measure small at shorter than six feet, but Harvey sees the ball and gets to it.

Derek Newton | OT | Arkansas State
Newton is an athletic developmental offensive tackle fans will love when he's a backup. Newton reminds me of Demetrius Bell of the Buffalo Bills His length is good so if he can add power to his frame, he could become a solid NFL lineman.

Wayne Daniels | DE | TCU
Listed at 6'2, 250 pounds, Daniels is likely due for a transition to outside linebacker. However, one of the knocks on him has been his lateral movement, so this week will be telling. A good effort player, Daniels had 6.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss this season.

Dominic DeCicco | S | Pittsburgh
DeCicco is kind of like this year's version of Haruki Nakamura of the Baltimore Ravens. He'll never dazzle you athletically, but he simply makes plays. DeCicco should be an excellent special teams player and solid contributor in the secondary. He has a nose for the ball.

Jay Finley | RB | Baylor
After being hurt for a lot of the 2009 season, Finley had an outstanding senior season with 1,218 yards and 12 touchdowns. Finley likes to burst outside the tackle box and has decent strength to break tackles.

Mario Fannin | RB | Auburn
Like many players in this game, Fannin doesn't have great measurables. Nor did he have great stats this year with 395 yards and five touchdowns rushing. But Fannin is an excellent all-around running back who can block and catch the ball. He's a powerful runner and can be hard to bring down. He's not flashy but will have a spot in the NFL.

--

Jock Sanders | WR/KR | West Virginia
After getting a late invite to and looking solid in the Senior Bowl, I'm not sure if Sanders is still participating in this game.

Jake Kirkpatrick | C | TCU
Like Sanders, Kirkpatrick participated in the Senior Bowl. There has been no word on whether or not he's still in this game.

Practices begin Tuesday and are not televised (to my knowledge). The game is at noon (EST) Saturday. To be honest with you, I have no idea if the game is even on TV. The game's website doesn't make that information readily available. If you know, leave the information in the comments.

Who are some of the alumni out of this game recently? I know the Jags have taken Terrance Knighton and Deji Karim

As a Cowboys fan

I’d like to object to Robert Brewster’s inclusion in this category.

Wow,

GB really knows how to find those hidden gems. 2 talented Packers there.

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

And go Shawn Watson and Barney Cotton! Seriously, leave Lincoln. Now.

I like Mario Fanin as a late round pick for Detroit.

He sounds like a potential short yardage guy for us and maybe even a Fullback? I seem to remember him being just under six feet and 228 pounds. If he can add a little more bulk, he might be a good sized blocking back.
Does anyone know if his frame could take a little more weight and if he was used that way at Auburn?

He might be fine as a blocker at 228. He plays strong. Auburn took Dyer out of games to use Fannin as a blocker.

No mention for DJK?

Came into the late season with people considering him as high as 4th round pick until….well you know what happened

I was wondering the same thing myself.

Too much of a bonehead. Iowa isn’t even letting him use their helmet.

I believe

Denarius Moore is playing for the Texas team. He should be a good late round selection.

Looks like Sanders is playing

Wes Bunting just tweeted something about how Sanders looked at the weigh in. I thought I heard the game was on CBS, but don’t quote me on that.

The prospect I like and think is underrated = D.J. Young, OT, Michigan State

I saw quite a bit of him his senior season, he caught my eye as the starting left tackle for the Spartans. If the Colts were going to add more than one offensive tackle in the Draft, Young would definitely be my choice for the second tackle because I think he has some potential.

Young started at Bowling Green, he transfered to a Michigan Community College so that he could walk-on to Michigan State the next year, not only won a roster spot but immediately started at right tackle in 2009, then as a senior he started at left tackle in 2010 for the Spartans.

His dad played at Michigan State and then a couple years in the NFL if I recall correctly (like I said, he caught my interest as a prospect so I read up on the kid), so the bloodlines is a plus.

And he measured in well today, probably better than I thought:

OT Young, D.J. Michigan State 6047 307 9.75 35.125 83.875

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he ends up with the Colts.
