Arkansas/Texas A&M NFL Draft watch notes
Just what kind of quarterback prospect is Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill? Is he the one who looked like a star in the first half against Oklahoma State? Or is he the quarterback who struggled in the second half of that game? Tannehill has a penchant for making impressive NFL-style out throws. Last week he struggled some with his ball placement throwing three interceptions and completing less than 60 percent of his passes.
All three of Tannehill's interceptions last week were on passes intended for wide receiver Jeff Fuller. The senior hasn't really gotten on track this season and isn't making quite as many big plays as a year ago. His run blocking is still excellent, though. He's a top 50 pick, but maybe not in the same level as Michael Floyd.
Aggies running back Cyrus Gray struggled as well, rushing the ball 13 times for only 35 yards. He's also a question mark as a draft prospect. He tries to play with power, but it doesn't always work. He looks like a one-cut, zone scheme running back at the next level. He has just enough wiggle and quickness to do well in that kind of scheme.
When Texas A&M defensive end Ton Jerod-Eddie isn't busy grabbing scrotums, he's one of the better natural five-technique ends in the nation. He's got the length and enough power to play there 3-4 end at the next level.
If you're tuning into this game to observe Arkansas defensive Jake Bequette, don't' get too excited. He's a game-time decision after missing the past two games.
Arkansas has one of the running back groups in college football, even without junior Knile Davis this season. Fellow junior Ronnie Wingo looks like a legit draft prospect as a power back. He broke a few runs against Alabama last week and looked faster than I thought he was. The Razorbacks could also see the return of fellow big back Broderick Green. The USC transfer was expected to miss this season after tearing a knee ligament but could play today.
There was plenty of talk last week about the group of Arkansas wide receivers. Click here for thoughts on them.
