2012 NFL mock draft

After teasing it for quite some time, find my first 2012 NFL mock draft of the year following the jump. Some of the picks were easy and some were incredibly difficult. Just about all will be incorrect in April. Criticism of all kinds is encouraged. Just remember if you find something so bad, I challenge you to make your case in a FanPost.

The order is an inverse of this week's SB Nation NFL power rankings. Also, I hate the layout. Maybe I'll change it around when some time is found. If you have suggestions on what you think looks good, let me know.

Star-divide

1. Miami Dolphins - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
The most obvious choice ever put in a mock draft.
2. Indianapolis Colts - Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California
It's hard to justify the Colts taking any other quarterback other than Luck. While the team just drafted a finesse offensive tackle in Anthony Castonzo, Kalil is a much better player. He could play the left and Castonzo can move to the right, giving the Colts good bookends.
3. St. Louis Rams - Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
Rodger Saffold hasn't been the same player he was as a rookie and Martin has outstanding potential. Much like in the Colts' situation, Saffold would shift to the right and Martin would be on the left. Wide receiver is less of a need following the acquisition of Brandon Lloyd and this is too early for a cornerback.
4. Minnesota Vikings - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
With both Kalil and Martin out of play, the most logical area for Minnesota to address would be wide receiver. The question will be about which one to choose. Adding a No. 1 wide receiver would allow Percy Harvin to play more naturally as a No. 2 in the slot.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars - Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
While there are questions about Jeffery's speed and ability to separate at the next level, he's the kind of playmaker who could make quarterback Blaine Gabbert a star. Secondary is a big concern for the Jaguars, but this is still too early in the round to address the need.
6. Denver Broncos - Matt Barkley, QB, Southern California
If the Broncos are picking this high, it's an indication that Tim Tebow didn't play quite well enough. This also give the front office and new head coach John Fox a chance to start with their guy.
7. Seattle Seahawks - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
The easy pick here would be quarterback, but after Luck and Barkley, I'm not certain Pete Carroll would fall in love with Landry Jones, Robert Griffin or Brock Osweiler. Richardson would fill a need and probably be the best player available considering a dominating pass rusher has yet to emerge this season.
8. Arizona Cardinals - Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
Offensive tackle is far and away Arizona's biggest area of weakness. Although Reiff is still raw as a player, Arizona needs to take a chance and hope they hit on a tackle.
9. Carolina Panthers - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
The Panthers are quietly putting together a nice roster, but don't have that legit No. 1 wide receiver with Steve Smith getting up there in age. The Panthers would also take a long look at the linebackers available here.
10. Kansas City Chiefs - Manti Te'o, MLB, Notre Dame
The Chiefs have a lot of great pieces on defense, but need a powerful strong-side inside linebacker to help against the run. I may have other linebackers rated more highly than Te'o, but he's a perfect fit for what the Chiefs do on defense.
11. Cleveland Browns - David DeCastro, G, Stanford
As I've said before, if the Browns aren't picking high it's because quarterback Colt McCoy played well enough to push the team outside of the top 10. While Landry Jones or Robert Griffin are intriguing choices here, I'm sticking with that logic on McCoy. This may be early for a guard, but it should show just how bad Shaun Lauvao has been for Cleveland and how good DeCastro can be.
12. Philadelphia Eagles - Vontaze Burfict, MLB, Arizona State
This is a pick that would be out of the ordinary for the Eagles considering they haven't taken a linebacker in the first round since 1979. At this point, though, adding a linebacker is almost a necessity for the Eagles. There are plenty of issues with Burfict, but when he's on, he's dangerous in all areas of the game.
13. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta) - Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina
While it's true Tom Heckert drafts rarely see linebackers taken early, the Browns need to make an exception. Starter Scott Fujita will be 33 at the start of next season and showing his age.
14. Dallas Cowboys - Lamar Miller, RB, Miami
Only a redshirt sophomore, Miller is ready for the NFL. Starter Felix Jones seems to have perpetual injury problems, DeMarco Murray is only decent and Tashard Choice probably won't be with the team next season.
15. New York Jets - Vinny Curry, DE/OLB, Marshall
The Jets were so desperate for pass rush help they signed colossal draft bust Aaron Maybin this season. The more you watch Curry, the better and more athletic he looks.
16. Chicago Bears - Kelechi Osemele, OT/G, Iowa State
There may be no bigger need in the NFL than the Bears needing an offensive lineman. Osemele would either start immediately at right tackle or inside at guard. Really, it doesn't matter. He'll upgrade the offensive line and that's what their offense needs more than anything.
17. Tennessee Titans - Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
This is a combination of taking the best player available and adding a player who is a scheme fit. The Titans like to move their defensive linemen around and Coples would afford them even more flexibility.
18. Houston Texans - Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina
There may be no better wide receiver in the NFL than Andre Johnson, but the Texans need a viable second option outside. Jones is a dynamic playmaker who would take a lot of pressure off Johnson.
19. Washington Redskins - Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
The Redskins would be lucky to have a shot at Jones this far down the draft. In this scenario, many of the teams in front of Washington just don't need a quarterback, allowing them to get Jones.
20. Cincinnati Bengals - David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech
Cedric Benson is rapidly approaching the age of 30, the plateau for NFL running backs. Behind him there is very little in Brian Leonard and Cedric Peerman.
21. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland) - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
Leon Hall is one of the league's top cornerbacks, but Cincinnati didn't do much to replace Jonathan Joseph. Kirkpatrick is arguably the best corner in the draft and could start as a rookie for the Bengals.
22. New York Giants - Luke Kuechly, MLB, Boston College
Even with a healthy Jonathan Goff this would be a need for the Giants. Kuechly is as instinctual of a linebacker as there can be in the college game and that should translate nicely to the New York defense.
23. Buffalo Bills - Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
Considering this draft is expected to be light on offensive linemen, the Bills could add another piece to an improving defense. Claiborne could help improve one of the league's worst pass defenses with his playmaking ability.
24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
By the time next season starts, Ronde Barber will be 37, so it goes without saying his career is winding down. The Buccaneers haven't added much young talent at cornerback and could be in need of a starter next season.
25. Pittsburgh Steelers - Cordy Glenn, OT/G, Georgia
The Steelers are another team greatly in need of offensive line help and Glenn is arguably the best blocker left on the board at this point.
26. New England Patriots (from New Orleans) - Robert Lester, S, Alabama
New England has a proven commodity in Patrick Chung but need someone to line up next to him. Lester could play either spot in the Patriots' scheme, though a cornerback could also be considered.
27. Detroit Lions - Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
Konz could either replace aging current starter Dominic Raiola or shift over and play guard. A corner could be a consideration as well, especially considering how many there will be in this draft.
28. San Francisco 49ers - Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers
The 49ers have some upcoming free agents at wide receiver in Josh Morgan and Braylon Edwards and Sanu would be an upgrade over both.
29. San Diego Chargers - Alameda Ta'amu, DT, Washington
The Chargers defense is at its best when it has a big body filling gaps up front. The defense up front hasn't been quite the same since the release of Jamal Williams.
30. New England Patriots - Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB, Florida State
Whether the Patriots use a 4-3 or a 3-4 going forward, they need a pass rusher. Jenkins is still raw as a player, but he knows how to get after the pass rusher.
31. Baltimore Ravens - Dont'a Hightower, MLB, Alabama
Whether it's Dannell Ellerbe or Jameel McClain, the Ravens haven't been able to find a suitable partner for Ray Lewis. Hightower can not only be that player, but the leader of the Ravens' defense going into the future.
32. Green Bay Packers - Jared Crick, DE/DT, Nebraska
One of the few needs for the Packers is a five-technique on the defensive line. There are a few options for that role, but Crick is probably the most natural. His draft position could be negatively affected, though, by a torn pectoral he suffered.

Kalil or tradedown would be it for Indy if they got the number 2 pick

but I’d be hoping for trade down since Castonzo has been impressive at LT for a rookie and the quick look Ijanana got at LT before he got hurt had him solid in pass pro and absolutely mauling Adrian Clayborn in the run game.

You know my opinion that the Colts should trade down and stock up on picks. Just don’t get into that on a mock.

Yeah trading down would be the best route but that is hard to do well in a mock. If we did trade down we should get someone like Tannehill or Osweiler at #34 as guys who might do well to sit for a couple years and have potential to be stars.

It also may be hard to shop the #2 pick as what guy would a team be dying to get? Maybe someone like Arizona would trade up to make sure they get Kalil and we could take Coples at #8.

considering manning's age

why would the colts want rookies who have to sit for a couple years?
and there is no way the colts draft a tackle……..IF they don’t trade down, i could see them drafting a receiver to replace reggie wayne who will be a free agent.

I think that’s what you’d see if the Colts get the second pick. It will be a shock if one of their first three picks in 2012 isn’t a QB.

Why?

The colts front office obviously likes Curtis Painter as a solid back up and he’s proving why. I’d wait a couple of years to draft a QB.

Barkley would be the pick in this scenario

Reiff in the top 10 though? I feel like he’s Brian Bulaga 2.0, and will likely see a draft day like him.

I didn’t like it either, but I think given the huge need for tackles, someone is going to reach.

he's (obviously since Bulaga barely played and wasn't himself until the bowl game) having a better year than Bulaga's last season.

I haven’t caught many mistakes from him, which is what you want from a LT. I’m not sure that him outperforming Bulaga was just about Bulaga having been sick and out of practice.

My point was that like Bulaga

I’m not sure many teams will like him top 10 because he doesn’t have elite athleticism. The knock on Bulaga, from my understanding, was that he was as good as he was ever going to be, or close to it, coming from Iowa. I don’t doubt he was more talented but I think teams will be turned off by lack of potential.

is this mock draft assuming Robert Griffin stays in school? Or do you think even if he declares he might not go in the 1st round?

Is Royce Da 5'9" actually 5'9"? The world may never know.

I'll bet the 49ers would take Alameda Ta'amu over any WR.

Based on the games their scouts have attended, I think they’re interested in getting a 1st round Nose Tackle.

We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.

I'll chime in and say I like the Sanu pick

Don’t change it.

Free safety depth is a need, but right now our defense is lights out and I can’t see spending a high pick on the defense next year. We have starters and while we’d love an Earl Thomas type guy there simply isn’t one in this draft.

Our offense needs talent, especially at WR. We basically have two #2 guys in Crabs and Morgan and while we’ve seen decent pre-injury play from Edwards we still haven’t seen anything that shows he can revive what became a mediocre career after that one great year in Cleveland.

by Ougadas on Oct 20, 2011 9:06 AM EDT up reply actions

There is a lot of talent in the WR class this year

I don’t think its worth it for us to draft a WR in the first round. I would go with a Defensive player in the first round because it can get better. Our NT and FS are not very good. Soap does a great job is shutting down the run game but when it comes to the pass he doesn’t do anything.

Then there is goldson he can lay out the big hit but he isn’t the best for coverage. So there is always room for improvement on that front.

I don't get it

Any nose tackle you draft in any year that can stand up to a double team is going to be around 330 pounds of beef on the hoof. You aren’t going to get a pass rusher out of that.

Goldson is a better than average player on what is becoming the best defense in the league. They all can’t be Patrick Willis. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to replace him with a rookie that is going to go through the same growing pains — cuz I gotta tell ya bro, there is no Eric Berry or Earl Thomas in this draft.

I think there are a lot of positions that should be upgraded before WR.

WRs are a luxury

1st round pick on a nickel back?

Yeah, lets do that.

Defense is top 3 if not duking it out with the Ravens for the best.
Offense isn’t even top half and wouldn’t be top 20 if it wasn’t for Gore breaking long runs.

Let’s spend our first rounder on a defender that will ride the pine until 3rd down and be a developmental project.

And the year before

on Frank at least. He’s known for long strings of 0, 1, 2 yard gains then breaks off a 40. It’s maddening - especially when the string lasts longer than a game. If he hadn’t broken so many long runs already this year (when we can give him holes you can drive a semi through) our total offensive output, like I said, would be in the bottom 10.

Alex has been good at doing what we’ve asked him to do — but that hasn’t been much.

and this years class is decent. So when the time comes when Rogers leaves us which may be the end of this year we will be ready for it.

Texans WR

I like the Texans taking a wide receiver, but I don’t see the value in Dwight Jones at 18. If Floyd or Jeffery fall, I would be ecstatic, but I think there the Texans are more likely to go secondary with Dre Kirkpatrick or even Morris Claiborne.

Bravo for the Panthers Pick...

At number 9 with the options available and with our needs, Michael Floyd would be the perfect choice, especially if a top tier DT (Brandon Thompson) would be available in the second for us.

I commend you on really making a good and informed choice here. And I commend you for not being a copycatter and just giving us Dre Kirkpatrick. Very original, and very well thought out. Bravo!

At this point Vontaze Burfict sucks and I don’t see the motor and desire on the field that would suggest he has the desire to improve. No thanks on him. Great talent but he is a character problem (which means he won’t be an Eagle), he coasts and he isn’t technically sound. I’ll pass on such a volatile personality who isn’t even that good on the field.

Give the Eagles a defensive tackle in round 1, the middle of the defense is struggling largely because the defensive tackles aren’t stuffing the run in the wide 9 scheme that moves them out wider. Brandon Thompson please. I would also welcome another edge rusher like Vinny Curry or Devin Taylor.

Oh and I want Peter Konz desperately. Jason Kelce can’t run block and Konz has the athletic ability to fit the new scheme.

How does Jason Kelce suck in a big way? Sure he struggles in short yardage situations but he fits perfectly what the Eagles want in there center now & he’s been good in other areas. If you look at Shady’s splits he averages 6.7yds up the middle I guess that’s not bad with a center that sucks in a big way. Also the Eagles aren’t moving Kelce to FB there’s a reason why they made him a starter over Jackson as a rookie

Like the Bengals picks

Kirkpatrick is a must. Not sure about the RB, I’m hoping M. Floyd will drop to the 20’s. Pairing him with AJ Green would be a nightmare for any opposition.

Tweeted this but might as well comment.

I think Dre is the must-have pick for the Bengals. Seeing him drop to 21 would be fantastic. Would allow Clements to move to S and sure up that position. However I also wonder about David Wilson at 20 and that’s just from sheer ignorance. Trent Richardson is gold. As a tOSU fan I saw first hand what Miller can do. But is Wilson worth that 20th pick? I’m interested to see what everyone here thinks.

Is he worth it, or does he just fill a position of need and wouldn’t be drafted in this area otherwise?

People will probably say safety but I think they're delusional

Depending on how Sands pans out, we have our two future starting safeties in he and Nelson for at least a few more years. We’d only need depth and you’re not drafting that in the first.

Honestly, our only significant upgrades are like CB, OG, and RB. Our DL, LBs, TE, OT, QB and WR are set enough that we shouldn’t be picking them first.

I like Curry, but his game seems better suited to play 43 DE than 34 OLB to me. He’s having a down year, but i still think Bruce Irvin is going to be an explosive 34 OLB on sundays.

good pick for KC

Most people will predict a QB or OT, but I think you’re dead on with a great SILB prospect.

by stagdsp on Oct 19, 2011 11:21 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

I just really do not like picking a SILB in the 1st round.

It is the least important position in the front 7 and less important than CB’s too in our highly man defense. I would say reaching the 11 spots and grabbing Dre Kirkpatrick would be a better move. Getting a 6’ 3" corner to match up against the big receivers of todays game would be a good move even with Brandon Flowers getting a new contract and Carr expected to be resigned.

by Jonathan Hake on Oct 20, 2011 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

I've heard that argument before...
It is the least important position in the front 7

but, I’m not sure I buy it… it may be the least important because KC hasn’t had an impact player there since they switched to a 3-4… but getting a tackling machine that can really stuff the run could really help

also…

less important than CB’s too in our highly man defense

they’ve run a LOT less man coverage with Berry out… the Safety position is just terrible without him…

assuming Carr gets re-signed, and considering they recently drafted Arenas and Brown, I don’t see CB as a priority. Safety depth HAS to be, so I could see a 2nd round pick on a Safety, but I wouldn’t be crazy about a 1st round CB at this point

by stagdsp on Oct 20, 2011 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

What about the possibility of drafting a CB in the first and using Flowers much the same way as Woodson

Flowers is a great tackler and he typically plays 10 yards off the receiver anyway. Flowers could easily move around and play the small slot receivers and play some safety allowing us to have two good big corners on the outside.

But I do like Flowers, carr, berry, lewis a Lot when healthy… then again, you can never have too many good DBs

I’m through projecting an OT for the Chiefs. Every time I do someone at AP puts up a fanshot ridiculing me. I have feelings too, dammit!

Also, I considered a QB, but Te’o seems like such a perfect fit for their defense.

haha, we're a tough bunch

I would consider a QB or an OT… but only if it were an ELITE prospect… I’d be really happy with Luck or RGIII, but clearly that’ll depend on where they pick… same with OT… I’d take one of the top 2 guys, but another average prospect wouldn’t really help the team that much.

Looking at KC’s starting lineup (when healthy) I could really only see RT and SILB as positions that could really use big upgrades… though Belcher and Richardson aren’t terrible.

Depth is key for this team going forward, they HAVE to draft for depth at S, G, OT, ILB and maybe NT (if Gregg doesnt’ come back)

by stagdsp on Oct 20, 2011 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

The draft was pretty easy for the Chiefs when we were picking top 5 but dropping to picking 10th is rough.

Based on Pioli’s previous draft he isn’t afraid to draft a low positional value that is BPA nor is he afraid to reach for the player he wants. Te’o is a great fit and a good pick but i just don’t know that investing 5 first round picks in your front 7 is a great idea.

by Jonathan Hake on Oct 20, 2011 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Kirkpatrick is a great value pick for the Bengals.

Not so sure about the Wilson pick, but I also have to admit that I know very little about him as a player. To be honest I might go with Cordy Glenn there. The interior O-line could use help. Bobbie Williams will be done rather soon, and even if Clint Boling can replace him it would be nice to have an extra option at LG- Nate Livings isn’t the long term answer.

Browns

The first pick for cleveland should be the best CB, the next pick (thanks ATL) should be the best DE or if you will LB. I would rather see a trade back for both picks, and picking up later first rounders and additional 2nds. CB,DE,LB & OL (at least 2 new OL) are our greatest needs, a WR would be a luxury we cant afford yet. The defense is still too weak to compete in the AFCN, & the OL needs new good additions.

Rams

They have needed a #1 WR for over two years. I doubt that Blackmon or Jeffery get passed up by St. Louis. Dallas will go after secondary help I think. Morris Claiborne, Janoris Jenkins, or Casey Heyward will improve a struggling defensive backfield. Cliff Harris may also be considered for Dallas.

Brandon Lloyd led the league in receiving in 2010. How isn’t he the definition of No. 1 WR?

he did, but 2011 is a different year...

he may fit perfectly if he picks it up again, but in a year or 3, he will be 33, so investing now in someone that can learn the trade from him might be smart… I just have my doubts Jonathan Martin even declares for this year’s Draft to be honest.

Go RAMS!!

Lloyd may work out in the interim.

However IMO; The Rams would do well to also select Blackmon or Jeffery . Green Bay and Baltimore are examples of franchises that do not rest on their laurels. Both teams are always seeking to add players even to position areas that are solid. This builds depth and it gives time to evaluate young players without the stress of rushing them in and hoping that they can play. Sergio Kindle is an example of this. Ozzie Newsome always seems to have a plan c,d,e, and f if plans a and b fall through. If Kindle is a miss; the Ravens are more than able to rebound quickly. Teams like The Patriots never settle; which may explain their success over a long period of time.

The secondary is only a concern for the Jags if Mathis leaves

Otherwise, the D is solid, They could use some help on the D line though, so if Coples were there when we picked, I could see our GM having a tough decision. I do think we go WR though.

by Dwalk1217 on Oct 19, 2011 11:57 PM EDT reply actions

Tackles, Guards, Giants

Saffold was the best tackle the Giants have seen so far this year. Better than Trent Williams, Jason Peters, and Russell Okung. Did not hold once. So you better get new left tackles for those teams as well.

A guard at 11 has to dominate the position. Needs to be driving DTs 10 yards down the field. DeCastro makes blocks, pulls well. But he’s not going to be tossing Ngata aside. Can’t see him going higher than Mankins.

I’m not sure what to do about the Giants. If they wanted a college-productive MLB, they have Greg Jones. Konz and Glenn look good there, but they draft OL high as infrequently as LBs. Claiborne could fit if Thomas and Ross are gone. Sanu or Fuller may be in play because WR could be the greatest need.

by ct17 on Oct 20, 2011 12:01 AM EDT reply actions

To be completely honest

I don’t like Keuchly to the Giants. Looking at the first two rounds over the last couple of years, the Giants have consistently taken more athletic guys. They sort of believe they can coach up anyone.

Amukamara is big and physical for a corner and was faster than initially expected.Marvin Austin is really quick for his size. JPP is well….a freak….and so on and so forth.

I don’t see an instinct guy in the first. Plus I see Keuchly dropping to the 2nd/3rd (like Mason Foster) post-combine.

by GiantNomad on Oct 20, 2011 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

What about Kuechly makes you think he’s not athletic?

Mocking the Draft: Talking NFL Draft all year.

by Dan Kadar on Oct 20, 2011 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions

I could be wrong

But I’ve read about his less than ideal athleticism on other sites, and reports etc. I admit I don’t watch BC play so I’m not a reliable source.

While all of the Giants early picks aren’t physical freaks, I don’t think you could use less than ideal athleticism to describe any of them.

I can’t really do too much more to justify it, obviously Keuchly is a good player and will be highly drafted, it just doesn’t feel like a ‘Giants pick’

by GiantNomad on Oct 20, 2011 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

As a follow up:

We’ve gone D a lot lately. I think we go offense. I could see the Giants going with:

A big WR (Michael Floyd)
A big all-around TE (Dwayne Allen)
A RB that is fast, can block, well and catch out of the backfield (Dunno this class well)

Look for offensive linemen after the first round. The Giants believe (and I agree) that Pat Flaherty is one of the best o-line coaches in the business. They need to replace Diehl and to a lesser extend Kareem MacKenzie. Beatty is good enough and continues to develop.

by GiantNomad on Oct 20, 2011 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions

exactly

the past 2 drafts we’ve got defensive players in at least the first 2 rounds. Its time for the offense to get some infusion of talent.

Dont mind Trent Richardson at #7

Considering Landry Jones is not for the hawks, There is no pass rusher (at DE or DT) and no elite corner. We can pickup Tannehill or RG3 in the 2nd or 3rd and get a pass rusher there too. All around good draft but i agree that its too high to draft DeCastro for the browns. Tough pick at that spot though.

by klyphx on Oct 20, 2011 1:08 AM EDT reply actions

Richardson

Some argue that a runningback in the first round is a luxury pick but I don’t know, I kinda like the idea. Could be interesting if we have an all rookie backfield next year with qb and rb. I wouldn’t mind looking for a LG as far as offensive needs go either.

If you go defensive it would be LB, CB DE/DTackle(pass rushers) in no particular order.

I think BPA should be the golden rule here.

by Jazzercise! on Oct 20, 2011 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Michael Floyd is a nice pick

I think he’ll be better than all other 1st round WRs (cuz I think Dwight Jones is going 2nd even though he’ll be crazy good), but I’d rather get Vontaze Burfict. Obviously he needs heavy coaching and I’ve heard of motivation issues with learning but I think Ron Rivera could whip him into shape and shift him into the LOLB spot for Thomas Davis.

by vitzeng on Oct 20, 2011 3:04 AM EDT reply actions

I dunno who the Giants pick

but I know it won’t be a LB like Kuechly. I wouldn’t mind the pick at all, but it just doesn’t fit their preference for extremely athletic players, or even players that they feel should be going a lot higher in the draft (JPP, Prince).

If that’s Zach Brown, OK.

I wouldn’t mind Morris Claiborne or Janoris Jenkins (tho I doubt the Giants go with Jenkins), but it does seem that right around where the Giants pick…its just a bunch of players I really don’t want them to draft.

The Buccaneers haven’t added much young talent at cornerback and could be in need of a starter next season.

I've been wanting

the Cardinals to go offensive line for YEARS. But this is a worst case scenario. I don’t disagree about the need for an OT, but if Reiff is someone that the Cards need to “take a chance and hope they hit on a tackle.” then that’s not good enough at this spot, no?

I’m not ragging on your pick, but the Cards also have a huge hole at OLB. Would it be better to use that pick on Burfict or Zach Jones?

Again, not ragging, I’m just not interested in the Cards hoping and reaching, hello Levi Brown.

On the Bronco pick

it all depends on how well Tebow plays over the next 11 weeks.

If he plays poorly and we go 4-12 then he is gone but if he plays relatively well and shows some promise and yet we still go 4-12 than it will be a tough decision for the front office. Tebow decides our pick this year no doubt about it.

I am a fan of a team in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. I haven't seen the playoffs since April 28th, 2008 (1st round exit by raps). I haven't seen playoffs past the 1st round since January 26th, 2006. Stop and think about how insane it is. And depressing.

Like the Lion's pick

would love to see Konz take over for Peterman at right guard next year or Raiola down the road, but I think it all depends on whether Tulloch gets an extension. If he doesn’t, I would rather see Hightower at that pick (assuming a top-tier corner doesn’t fall). Great mock though.

Drafting fourth and losing out on both Kalil and Martin would be crushing for Minny. If something like that unfolds, as a Vikings fan I’m hopeful they could move down with someone who wants Barkley and grab someone like Konz, Reiff, Janoris Jenkins…but I get you’re not mocking trades.

Buffalo

As of now, their two most glaring needs appear to be CB and lack of an edge rusher. I’m glad you addressed one of those in your mock.

Regarding the O-line, Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey have gone on record praising the line and this has been backed up with solid results thus far. Plus, Nix’s regime rarely drafts lineman early in drafts even when the line needs immediate help (see 2010 draft) making me doubt that Buffalo would go after someone in the first three rounds.

OT has been painful especially for Bradford. IMO, I think The Rams get a #1 WR be it Blackmon or Jeffery. The RB picks were interesting; Lamar Miller to Dallas especially. Wouldn’t The Cowboys be better served if they went with A CB? I was thinking of Casey Hayward or Cliff Harris. I do like the David Wilson selection for The Bengals. Wilson is an extremely talented back. Good call.

Although Kalil is enticing at #2 for the Colts, I’d rather they trade down to accumulate some picks, especially considering they took Castonzo and Ijalana. Maybe they’d put Kalil at LT, Castonzo at RT, and Ijalana at G. Now, if the Colts get the #1 pick I’d like to see them take Luck and maybe Broyles in the 2nd if he’s there.

You’re right about the Redskins picking a quarterback but there is no one on Earth they will be picking at nineteen. The Redskins will be a top ten, possibly top five pick in next year’s draft. They were lucky to get three wins under Grossman, I don’t see us being any better with Beck. Mark my words, we are in the suck for Luck race.

No, you're not.

When was the last time a season finished where no team had less than 3 wins? It doesn’t happen a lot. If the Redskins announced tomorrow that they were going to tank the rest of their games and finish 3-13 on purpose, they would still have trouble getting the first pick.
