New York Jets 2012 Mock Draft
My first New York Jets Mock Draft for 2012. I originally posted this on Gang Green Nation, but I decided to copy it onto here. Enjoy.
Pick #1, Round 1: Michael Floyd, Wr, Notre Dame - 6'3" 227 lbs
The Jets have had trouble on offense this year more than anything. Pass rushers do not win games. Those big stat-getters on the offense do. That is why I am going against the grain and choosing Michael Floyd, the 6'3", 227 pound deep-threat Wide Receiver from Notre Dame. Floyd consistently put up huge receiving numbers this season. Through 6 games, he has 53 receptions for 639 yards and 4 touchdowns! Almost 10 receptions and over 100 yards receiving per game. Plaxico Burress will not be on the team next season, and we need to replace him with a younger version of him. Michael Floyd should be a great receiver at the NFL level.
Pick #2, Round 2: Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall - 6'5" 242 lbs

NOW we pick up a pass rusher. Vinny curry has had a monster season, recording 43 tackles and 9.5 sacks through 7 games. Curry is a bit undersized as a defensive end at 6'5" 242 punds, but should be just right to play outside linebacker at the NFL level. Curry uses a variety of moves to get to the quarterback, and is undoubtedly an upgrade over Jamaal Westerman. Curry plays the run very well too, which is definitely attractive for the 26th ranked run defense.
Pick #3, Round 3: Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State - 6'0" 191 lbs
This is where you guys will probably disagree with me. I'm sorry but I for one am tired of people talking about Sanchez having "upside" and that he's "only in his third year". Freeman has shown what he's got. Stafford has strutted his stuff. Hell, even Sam Bradford might be a better quarterback than Sanchez at this point. The only reason Kellen Moore is not a first round quarterback is because he is supposedly 6'0". I don't think his height should really be that big of a factor, however. One, he has played behind an offensive line whose average height is 6'3". Two, Drew Brees, one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL is 6'0". There is no reason why height should so greatly impact the most accurate quarterback in the 2012 draft class. If Moore can't take over as the starter, at least he'll actually provide Sanchez with some good competition in training camp.
Pick #4, Round 4: Bernard Pierce, RB, Temple - 6'1" 218 lbs
Pick #5. Round 5: Jeremiah Sirles, OT, Nebraska - 6'6" 320 lbs
Pick #6, Round 6: George Iloka, S, Boise State - 6'3" 216 lbs
Pick #7, Round 7: Jaymes Brooks, OG, Virginia Tech - 6'2" 307 lbs
Pick #8, Round 7: Bert Reed, WR, Florida State - 5'10" 183 lbs

Not a Moore believer at all,
I think he can be a solid backup, but he’s not even quite like a guy like Colt McCoy. The Brees comparison has been beaten to the ground, and he’s just really really special. Moore doesn’t have the arm strength nor accuracy to match up with Brees. Every other top 10 QB is 6’2" or over, accept Vick. And I think Moore’s lack of mobility is a concern considering his size, because guys like Seneca Wallace gets outside the pocket alot where his height isn’t a hindrance. Also when the pocket collapses, Moore won’t be able to hang in their and deliver the ball, so escapability would be most necessary, but he doesn’t have it.
Is Royce Da 5'9" actually 5'9"? The world may never know.
No way does Vinny Curry last till the 2nd round
He will be a top 20 pick easily. He is arguably the best pass rusher in this years draft. He will be in the 1st round pick Guaranteed. I also think Kellen Moore goes in the 2nd round
Good thoughts
I like the first two picks. I think Sanchez gets another year before you start thinking about Plan B, and you do have McElroy to be the backup. I think an OL pick has to be higher.
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue."
I would look to fill the massive holes on the OL and RB before I worried about wide receivers for the Jets. I’m just saying.
And if Vinny Curry is available in round 2, I will eat my shoe.

so you're giving up on the Sanchize?

Wouldn’t you?
Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.
Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang
no, don't give up. he only started one year in college. SURROUND his with more talent. Floyd would be great.
I have more concerns about Shonne Green, than Sanchez
I don't think you can at this point
they put too much into getting him and while the Jets have been very lucky to make the AFC champ games the past two years, they still made it there.
They really haven’t done a good job of surrounding him with talent tho. Greene is a fraud after that playoff run his rook year, Plaxico’s career was made by Eli so he’s a fraud. Santonio and Keller are good tho.
The years of giving up draft picks for veterans is starting to catch up with them.

Rex Ryan wanted to get just 1 Superbowl in these first 2-3 seasons, then he wouldn’t have cared if he went 2-14 each season after that.
The Jets have done a very poor job at setting themselves up for the future, they cashed in everything for these first few seasons.

3rd round is too high a pick for a back-up QB, too many other holes, but you might get Moore in the 6th
glad to see the Gholsten fiasco not scared you off (to dip into the college DE to 3-4 OLB well)
Floyd and Pierce are very good picks for this team. but use that 3rd rounder on a RT
