Auburn at Georgia NFL Draft watch notes

Photo

Georgia has had quite the turnaround after starting the season at 0-2. The trouble for someone like me is that much of it has come from the play of players who aren't draft-eligible yet. That includes quarterback Aaron Murray, running back Isaiah Crowell and wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell. Ah well. Onto the prospects worth noting.

Against Florida two weeks ago, Georgia pass rusher Jarvis Jones looked like the best 3-4 linebacker prospect in the nation. Can he do it again against Auburn and underrated offensive tackle Brandon Mosley? The senior tackle has struggled at times but should be a good test for Jones, a redshirt sophomore.

Following the departure of Cam Newton and Nick Fairley after last season, we haven't really broken down much of Auburn this season. After Mosley, it's hard to see a draftable senior on the roster. Safety Neiko Thorpe is average but struggles tackling. Junior tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen is a strong player, but lacks athleticism and speed. After that, it's just hard to find solid upperclassmen on Auburn.

Star-divide

Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo is putting together a good season with six interceptions and 38 tackles. Next to him, cornerback Brandon Boykin has been up and down this season. He's going to need a good offseason to get himself into the second round of the draft.

The Bulldogs' Ben Jones has been neck-and-neck with Ohio State's Michael Brewster as the top draft-eligible center in the nation all season. Jones is coming off a game against New Mexic State that earned him SEC Offensive LIneman of the Week honors. As I mentioned earlier this week, I'm warming to Cordy Glenn as a tackle prospect.

Coming into the season Kwame Geathers was being talked about as a break out player for Georgia. He hasn't played like it yet. He's started just three games this season and has had conditioning issues. His size at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds is incredible, he just needs to start playing up to it.

We don't talk kickers and punters here that often, but Georgia's kicker Blair Walsh is worth bringing up. He was considered the top kicker prospect earlier this season but has only connected on 56.5 percent of his field goals this session. The Bulldogs have maybe the best punter, though, in Drew Butler. He's averaging 43.1 yards a punt and has 10 fair catches in 35 punts.
