Mocking the Drafts YouTube Channel Update 11/16/11

Welcome to the latest look into whats new over at Mocking the Drafts Prospect Film Library. Last update highlighted three of the bigger games from week one and now we move on to week two. The out of conference "game-of-the-week", Alabama vs Penn State, wasn't much of a game after halftime as Penn State couldn't get anything going offensively till it was too late. The Tide's loaded defense was up to the task and the Nittany Lions offense couldn't get going with their two QB system. Our second game was a barn burner in the desert as Missouri and Arizona State took their game into overtime. The Tigers and Sun Devils amassed 993 total yards, so there wasn't a lot of successful defense played. The final game uploaded is the SEC match-up between South Carolina and Georgia. As it tends to be the case, there are a lot of prospects on both sides of the ball for each team and which means even more to scout. Lets start with Alabama vs Penn State.

Star-divide

Players to Keep an Eye On:

Alabama

#3 Trent Richardson 5'11 220lbs RB (MtD #4 Overall Prospect) - Richardson is an elite athletic talent and has some comparing him to Vikings RB Adrian Peterson. I wouldn't go that far, but he does run with incredible power when he gets going north-south and he could make a big impact in the NFL. Prospect Notes | Profile

#21 Dre Kirkpatrick 6'2 190lbs CB (MtD #12 Overall Prospect) - Kirkpatrick has the talent and production, but some will question his height and whether he can turn his hips to keep up with NFL receivers. The determination of if he can or not will make Dre a CB or Safety in the NFL. Prospect Notes

#30 Dont'a Hightower 6'4, 258lbs MLB (MtD #16 Overall Prospect) - Hightower is great working downhill, but his lateral movement leaves much to be desired and could limit him solely MLB in the NFL and maybe even only to teams that employ a 3-4 or multiple defense. Prospect Notes

#41 Courtney Upshaw 6'2 263lbs OLB/MLB (MtD #28 Overall Prospect) - On a defense filled with NFL prospects, Upshaw's versatility may give him the best chance to make an impact in the NFL before any other defender. He has the size and athleticism to be a situational pass rusher from the get go and mature into a full time linebacker. Prospect Notes

#37 Robert Lester 6'2 210lbs FS (MtD #38 Overall Prospect) - Lester could be a big beneficiary of a weak safety draft class. His production has come up as of late and he looks like the kind of athlete that will excel in the combine environment

#4 Mark Barron 6'2 215lbs SS (MtD #56 Overall Prospect) - Barron could have come out last year, but after injuring his pectoral in last years Iron Bowl he made a wise decision to stay in school. He seems to have recovered well from his injury and has improved him stock. Like Lester, he will benefit from a weak secondary. Prospect Notes

#99 Josh Chapman 6'1 310lbs NT (MtD #57 Overall Prospect) - Chapman's height gives him a natural low center of gravity. A valuable trait for someone who uses leverage to control offensive lineman and hold his ground in the run game. Josh is no Suh or Fairley, but a NT that forces teams to dictate their blocking is valuable no matter the scheme. Prospect Notes

Other Prospects to Watch: D.J. Fluker #76 Soph OL, Nico Johnson #35 Junior LB, Barrett Jones #75 Jr OL, Marquis Maze #4 Sr WR, AJ McCarron #10 Soph QB,  William Vlachos #73 Sr OL

Penn State

#71 Devon Still 6'5 312lbs DT (MtD #75 Overall Prospect) - Alabama has a handful of prospects on its offensive line, but that didn't do much to slow down Still. His size will lend him scheme versatility to play 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE, but his height could lead to leverage issues without proper technique/coaching. Prospect Notes

Other Prospects to Watch: Derek Moye #6 Sr WR, Gerald Hodges #6 Jr LB, Michael Mauti #42 Jr LB

Missouri vs Arizona State:

Prospects to Keep an Eye On:

Missouri

#3 Jacquies Smith 6'4 250lbs DE/LB (MtD #84 Overall Prospect) - Like former Missouri pass rusher Aldon Smith (now in San Francisco), Jacquices is a very skinny, but fast pass rusher that will be better suited in a 3-4 style defense. He is not as talented as Aldon, but could develop beyond a situational pass rusher. Prospect Notes

#82 Michael Egnew 6'6 235lbs TE (MtD #89 Overall Prospect) - A very productive receiver who doesn't currently appear to have the strength and girth to be much of a blocking threat in the NFL. He does have the frame to add more, but he is a dangerous mis-match as he is right now.  Prospect Notes

Other Prospects to Watch: Henry Josey #20 Soph RB, James Franklin #1 Soph QB, T.J. Moe #28 Jr WR, Wes Kemp #8 Sr WR, Dominique Hamilton #90 Sr DL

Arizona State

#7 Vontaze Burfict 6'3 245lbs MLB (MtD #7 Overall Prospect) - Burfict is a powerful force in the run game with the athleticism to keep up in the pass game. His main issues are coachable, the most important will be maintaining focus while still doing his part to be a terror for the offense.   Prospect Notes | Profile

Other Prospects to Watch: Brock Osweiler #17 Jr QB, Aaron Pflugrad #4 Sr WR, Garth Gerhart #52 Sr OL

South Carolina vs Georgia

Prospects to Keep an Eye On:

South Carolina

#1 Alshon Jeffery 6'4 232lbs WR (MtD #8 Overall Prospect) -While Jeffery has had to deal with consistency at QB, he will also have to show his straight line speed and his ability to separate at an elite level. He has already shown he has the hands and body control to compete for passes.  Prospect NotesProfile | Profile 2

#5 Stephon Gilmore 6'1 190lbs CB  (MtD #40 Overall Prospect) -Gilmore is a member of the growing trend of taller CBs to help combat WRs like his teammate Alshon Jeffery. He is not so tall that some will want to move him to safety, like Dre Kirkpatrick, and can be physical with WRs at the line of scrimmage. Prospect Notes

#98 Devin Taylor 6'6 250lbs DE  (MtD #60 Overall Prospect) -Taylor is the definition of a raw prospect. He has elite size and athleticism, but hasn't found his perfect role where he can make a consistent impact. Prospect Notes

Other Prospects to Watch: Marcus Lattimore #21 Soph RB, Antonio Allen #26 Sr LB, D.J. Swearinger #36 Jr SS, Melvin Ingram #6 Sr DE, Rokevious Watkins #73 Sr OT/G

Georgia

#71 Cordy Glenn 6'5 320lbs OT/G  (MtD #31 Overall Prospect) - Glenn has played Guard in the past and is currently playing Left Tackle for the Bulldogs. His biggest challenge will be trying to prove he has the foot speed to stay at LT in the NFL. His versatility and skills will land him somewhere on an offensive line. Prospect Notes

#2 Brandon Boykin 5'10 184lbs CB (MtD #43 Overall Prospect) - An elite athlete that also sees time on offense, Boykin doesn't see a lot of throws his direction, but he has the ball skills and speed to be a play maker in the NFL. Prospect Notes

#60 Ben Jones 6'3 300lbs C  (MtD #83 Overall Prospect) - Jones has lineman skills along with the leadership skills usually associated with the lead cog in the OL. Isn't elite at any one thing, but is above average across the board with upside.

Other Prospects to Watch: Aaron Murray #11 Soph QB, Isaiah Crowell #1 Fr RB, Malcolm Mitchell #26 Fr WR, Orson Charles #7 Jr TE, Bacarri Rambo #18 Jr FS, Jarvis Jones #29 Soph OLB
