Redskins 2012 Mock Draft

As we all know, the play-offs are long gone now. It was disappointing to see us start so well before crashing and burning, our bad luck with injuries and a QB controversy didn’t help matters and may have been a catalyst for this, but the bottom line is we aren’t Super Bowl bound yet.

Being an optimist I don’t think these last 12 weeks haven’t been wasted, regardless of our record at the end of the season. I think Shanahan and Bruce Allen had a great off-season starting with one hell of a draft. Unearthing potential starters on each day of the draft, even more impressive when you consider that they made that draft limited picks.

Even so, there is still building to be done as we have holes across the roster.

If I was the little angel sat on Bruce Allen’s shoulder, this is what I would be whispering on Draft Day…

Round 1, Pick 7: QB Robert Griffin III, Baylor

Height: 6’2

Weight: 220

40 Yard: 4.40-4.50

If you haven’t heard about RG3 you need to crawl out from whichever rock you’ve been hiding under. He has ridiculous Arm Strength, Accuracy, Mechanics all the right intangibles and all in the body of an Olympic Hurdler… And I thought Andrew Luck was supposed to be the perfect QB prospect?

Round 2, Pick 39: CB Casey Hayward, Vanderbilt

Height: 5’11

Weight: 188

40 Yard: 4.45-4.55

Casey Hayward is one of the best kept secrets in this draft, he routinely shuts down the best receivers in the best conference in college football, has genuine ball hawking skill and is a sure tackler. He isn’t an athletic specimen, but he is a Gamer and I think he’s going to be a top notch Corner.

Round 3, Pick 71: OG Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin

Height: 6’4

Weight: 315

40 Yard: 5.10-5.30

Kevin Zeitler is next off the production line at Wisconsin, a College renown for producing top quality offensive lineman, A bill that he certainly fits. He has prototypical size and strength, good athleticism and could be a day one starter.

Round 4, Pick 103: RT Mitchell Schwartz, California

Height: 6’6

Weight: 318

40 Yard: 5.28

Mitchell is the younger brother of Geoff Schwartz who was a starting Guard for the Carolina Panthers. He differs from his brother because he is leaner and more athletic; he has great feet and all the strength you would expect from a man of his size. Given some time to develop he could be a starting RT

Round 4, Pick 116: WR AJ Jenkins, Illinois

Height: 6’0

Weight: 190

40 Yard: 4.40-4.50

If I had to compare AJ Jenkins to a current NFL receiver, I would say Reggie Wayne. He has good size, good athleticism, good hands and runs crisp routes, I think he has the skill set to start in this league.

Round 5, Pick 135: RB Tauren Poole, Tennessee

Height: 5’10

Weight: 215

40 Yard: 4.45-4.55

Tauren Poole and the Tennessee Vols had a down year which has caused his draft stock to fall, that’s great news for us! Tauren Poole possesses prototypical size, a low centre of gravity with good thickness and musculature throughout his body. He runs low, cuts well, is elusive and rarely goes down on first contact. He also has good burst for a bigger back. A good comparison would be Ahmad Bradshaw.

Round 6, Pick 167 ILB Chris Galippo, USC

Height: 6’2

Weight: 250

40 Yard: 4.65-4.85

He failed to meet the lofty expectations of being an over hyped USC Linebacker, but still has some potential. He has good triangle numbers and athleticism, is a solid tackler, and is instinctive in pass coverage. He is a developmental prospect who will at the least contribute on special teams where he has excelled in college.

Round 7, Pick 199: RB/KR Jeff Demps, Florida

Height: 5’7

Weight: 191

40 Yard: 4.25-4.35

This kid is electric, anybody who can break the 10-second barrier in the 100m is worth a 7th round pick in my mind, truly world-class athleticism. He is by no means powerful, but is not as weak as you’d think and is actually heavier then Percy Harvin. He is a low risk high reward pick and could be dynamite as a kick returner.
