Saturday NFL Draft watch notes

In the final week of the college football season, there is a truncated schedule filled with some Big East and Big 12 games – and a few conference title games. We'll have individual previews of Georgia/LSU, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State and Wisconsin/Michigan State later today. For now, some general watch notes for the rest of the day.

If you haven't caught a Southern Miss game and quarterback Austin Davis yet this season, do so at noon today. In the Conference-USA title game, Southern Miss takes on Case Keenum and Houston. I like Davis more than Keenum as a prospect but expect both to get drafted.

How does Baylor's Robert Griffin III follow up a 479-yard performance today against Texas? It's too bad most, if not all, Heisman Trophy ballots have been filled out. If Griffin has another game like that one, he could be considered the Heisman frontrunner. He may have to settle for being a top 15 pick in next year's draft, if he chooses to come out.

Star-divide

There has been discussion that Utah State running back Robert Turbin will go pro after this season. Coming into today's game against New Mexico State, Turbin has run for 1,318 yards. It should be noted, however, that he struggled against Auburn, his biggest game of the season.

How about the fall of Clemson? They've lost three of the last four games, but in the ACC Championship game they face a Virginia Tech team they beat 23-3 earlier this season. Tech is on a roll thanks largely to the play of running back David Wilson. Quarterback Logan Thomas has also developed into one of the nation's top quarterbacks tis season and one to keep in mind for 2013.

For Clemson, defensive tackle Brandon Thompson needs a big game. That's both to help Clemson win and resurrect his dropping draft stock. Thompson hasn't been as good as expected this season, but a big game against Wilson will help.

I'm really stuck between Ball and Griffin III

Ball is the best RB this season, his stats are better than Richardson’s without a doubt and the SEC isn’t all that much better than the Big10 defensively like some people make it out to be. His team is in a position to maybe win the Big 10 title. Griffin has had an amazing year, the Baylor offense has been unstoppable at times, but I do kind of question a few of his losses because they weren’t lost in the same fashion as Ball’s (pretty much 2 hail marys). I also like Richardson and think he deserves alot of credit. Luck has had a great season but not big enough numbers IMO for a QB.
